And let's face it....All due respect to the late great Jack Kirby.....He's done more for comics than almost anyone. But The Eternals is practically unreadable..

Reading the letters page where fans are 'WTF is this? And when does FF show up?' and Kirby responding 'LOL, this not in the Marvel Universe' passive aggressively is definitely worth reading

  2. Great thread; I don't know how I missed it before. My middle school & high school comic book buddy was really into undergrounds at the time, so I remember him having some of these books you posted  One I haven't seen in this thread, but do remember fondly, is the self-published mini-books of Matt Feazell such as Anti-social man, Ant-boy and Cynical Man. Cynical Man was ultimately collected as an Eclipse publication, IIRC.

  3. It’s not just the comic art auction underperforming; Heritage’s Contemporary art auction beginning tomorrow has a lot of unbidded pieces. Are we reaching auction fatigue or is it a period of buyer cautiousness heading and extending into 2020?

Not sure if it was already hot but I don't recall seeing it mentioned before; there are some really good results for Gideon Falls #1. There are various covers and I'm not sure what may have been more limited to begin with.

It seems that casting news earlier in the week bumped up sales... same for director selection announcement for DMZ

I think it's still pretty niche, like cassettes are making a pretty big,I don't know the word-hip,underground?-comeback.I was shocked at what some of my heavy metal demos or early tapes went for.Eight tracks have a much smaller revival too, depending on content.A Dead Boys or Dictators say copy can bring a good amount. The folk I know into LD are all about the horror films, and some VHS are valuable too.

Sunrise records in town now sells brand new off brand walkmans.

I've noticed 1st pressings (e.g. Metallica's Kill 'em All on Megaforce records vs. Electra records) or more obscure heavy metal cassettes selling well for a several years now. Rarity collecting for music is as fun as comics, but I've paid big bucks for a few OOP CD's only to see a re-release & remastered version put out later for a fraction of the price :p. Laser Disc and VHS is another world of collecting I'm not into (Have to draw the line somewhere )

The real guy to ask on the boards is @comicwiz - He is your Star Wars guy...

However, there are a few pieces there that, judging by the cut out parts and the foldable lines that would slot into display units.  They might be retail endcap display headers.  For example, if you had a retail cardboard bin that you would put the figures in on a standee, that a couple of those cardboard cutout would slot into the top.  The same could be true if it was on the endcap with a slat wall.

@rjrjr is a good Star Wars source too. Haven't noticed that he's posted on the boards in a while but he had an active/robust SW blog for a long time (which I can't seem to find at the moment (shrug))

If 'we' are still in the part of the story where 'realized' prices are rising higher & faster beyond our 'flawed' valuations, then you would do well to HOLD your 'comparable' pages.

Full disclosure, I 'aggressively' bid on all three of these pages. [As a side note, both seller's shipping costs were reasonable]

I would not be surprised to see one or more offered at a different auction venue within the next year.

I’m saving funds for something else, but I would have been all over the 154 page for up to $2400-ish otherwise. I know theres no X-Men, but I was really into the x-men in space storyline from that 160’s era (sidenote -I own a PS X-Men in space page )

You guys excited about Brubaker's deal?  I'm stoked about it.  I hope Fatale catches fire.  That series was awesome back in the day.  Brubaker is a beast.

Brubaker is one of those creators I always buy if I see cheap. Just plucked the 1st 5 issues of Fatale from the dollar bins last week even though I have multiple copies.

I wonder if any of the sandwich delivery kids have their original art page tips ha ha. Imagine giving Stan Lee a pastrami sandwich and he hits you with an interior 60's or 70's page?

2010 or 2011-ish, when i was still a newb buying OA, there was an ebay listing of 2 1940’s era Captain America panel pages where the seller claimed his grandfather was a delivery boy and given the pages from the Timely office. The pages were taken off ebay IIRC (guessing a deal was worked out off-ebay?).

Marvel Graphic Novel 1 : Death of Captain Marvel

Marvel Graphic Novel 5 : X-Men God Loves, Man Kills

    Blankets - Craig Thompson

Jimmy Corrigan, The Smartest Kid on Earth - Chris Ware

A Contract With God - Will Eisner

    Black Hole - Charles Burns

Great book; Fagin the Jew by Eisner is a good read too

I’ll second Jimmy Corrigan as well

Look into Daytripper by Gabriel Ba & Fabio Moon if you like philosophical stories. For superheroes, Watchmen and Planetary are my faves.

  11. FWIW, Devils Due had a booth at Phoenix CC this past weekend and I asked the artist (Blake) about the WW cover, how the book was being received, etc and he acted surprised at the attention the comic has gotten. Having said that, DDP had a table with around 2000 AOC reg cover books on opening day so they obviously felt they could capitalize on name recognition.

It's really hard right now to know which books to load up on since even a hit show is not going to give a book a spike.  i'm currently loading on the following books when i see them at a good price and hopefully a few will explode:

    The Boys 1

    Y: Last Man Complete sets

Locke and Key 1 - 6 ( I may have gone overboard with this one)

    Invincible complete sets

They all are so original so I've got good feeling about all of them

I like all these books and have at least one set of each. I agree with most comments about The Boys, Y, and Invincible, but I think Locke & Key has the most potential for a broader audience appeal plus name recognition Joe Hill (Stephen King's son), who is starting the get the star treatment with the upcoming NOS4a2 movie and his recent award winning Strange Weather collection.
