  1. Man I was gonna write something long but decided against it, dont really want to be condemned by a buch of people with a guilty conscience who would have thought I was talking about them.

Sad the tree is dying...again. More safeguards could have been used, like the one where you dont keep the claim if your offer wasnt taken, but Harvey had faith in people too much. No good deed goes unpunished, if you had the opportunity to change your offer but didnt and knew your offer was bad, you suck.

  2. Yeah, well at least for me, the Woodgod joke was shot, had its lifeless corpse dragged into the woods, stabbed, dismembered, burned, the ashes were buried, then that plot of land was frozen and sent into the deepest depths of the galaxy.

It's a bit dated guys, just my 2c

  3. Joaquin could be great, but can he pull off the look. I see Dr Strange as ruggedly handsome so Joaquin would need to grow out his facial hair but be very neat about it. Regardless, this is just more proof to me that while Marvel can have iffy casting decisions, they're not atrocious like DC. I mean I don't think I'll ever get over the Wonder Woman decision, it was depressing.

  4. say what you want about this guy, but he made things happen. People now sit on the same offer for days, add to it instead of changing it. If people really wanted this thread to succeed they would make a greater effort when they are in the "hot seat"

How much effort is really put out there?

    Thanks, I appreciate that. :eyeroll:

I claimed a book and I genuinely feel the variety of books I put up were comparable to what I claimed. My offer was not vetoed. I had several PMs stating "nice offer" and in the thread.

I tried to provide a VARIETY of books for people to maybe try something new they have never tried before. I thought the point of this was not all about $ value, but clearly that is not the case.

I had, I think, 15 items up there from my one option. That takes TIME to scan and upload and post. People could have chosen any 3 of 15 options. A person could have ended up with more than 30 books. Yes there were FULL modern sets but I also had a Silver Surfer #2, 1st Alice Cooper, 1st Lady Cop, What If #1 - I thought it wasn't all about "value"? I tried to include some fun/neat and some collectable items. That experiment failed.

When that was not working, I put together a Spidey 2099 set, but again, no takers. No takers on a nice slab. High value, not necessarily but a 9.6 of a pretty popular character who just got his own series again. That didn't work either though.

But b/c I didn't put up a book from my sig line, I am not trying?

My last offering, that WAS claimed, I put out around or just over $200 worth of books -, Marvel Spotlight #32, Uncanny X-Men #121, Avengers Annual #10

Spectacular Spider-Man #64 and Savage She-Hulk #1 - Even that was a mess show because I had the nerve to go out to the cottage and after 12 hours of not changing my initial offer the pitchforks were out then.

Now you are lumping me in with others who *really* didn't try? I already feel bad enough to be lumped into the strike category but whatever. Yep, between the hassle from not re-posting in under 12 hours from my first go around, I should have just stayed out. This confirms it.

    End of rantrant

Personally, I thought the Alice Cooper was super cool and the Lady Cop was intriguing. But the rest I had no knowledge or interest in. I personally don't like Silver Surfer but love me some Aquaman. We all have our quirks.

  5. So I'll see how big of a hole I dig myself here but to Harvey's Point I can definitely see his view. There have been offers on PIF and here where I was left scratching my head to say the least but it want my place to cry foul.

Harvey, I believe you said it best, when you offer something, it should be hard to let go, sadly I think that has not been the case sometimes. Not going to single anyone out, but if you think this applies to you, then there's probably a reason for that. Personally I did not want to offer up what I did, I'm sure I could have searched for some other stuff, thrown together something and it might have stuck, but that wasn't the point of this thread.

While I do agree that the "right" offer has to come along, there's also something to be said about something too good to pass up. When ASM 300 came up, your probably gonna jump on it even if your "collecting focus" is DC.

Some people went above any beyond, other's barely tried, thats what I saw at least.

I'm not being negative, I'm being a realist.

Let me just place some emphasis on that part

  7. I agree with the sentiment of not seeing the right thing. I have no numbers to supprt this, but I would say that the modern offers probably sit longer as most people are interested in the older stuff. Personally speaking, if I see a modern offer, high probability I have zero interest in it

  8. one of the things I noticed at the WW comic con yesterday was the number of people wearing Batman or Superman shirts. While Marvel may be dominating the box office, the more iconic characters appear to be DCs big two.

I'm not saying they are better etc, just stating how iconic those characters are in terms of comics etc. It could also be a case of DC having "cool t-shirts" while Marvels are lame

For the record, I was wearing a Superman t-shirt yesterday.

I think the iconic symbols that make for a good t-shirt generally belong to DC.

Superman, Batman, Green Lantern, Flash are all generally universally recognized and easy to print as logos on your average other wise plain t-shirt.

Does Marvel have ANY recognizeable symbols that look cool in the middle logo part of a tshirt? Maybe Cap's shield? Maybe the FF's '4'?

I think it has more to do with aesthetics and the original costume designs more than it does actual popularity, BUT of course the fact that the merchandise is more marketable might lead to more popularity too, so its not mutually exclusive.

Venoms Spider and Punishers Skull are the big ones I can think of.

  9. Ok someone riddle me this. It's been pretty much confirmed that Batman will be 45 in the movie, so as far as age, theyre not far off from the Frank Miller story, but this is where I'm confused. Batman and Superman are supposed to meet for the first time, kick the hell out of each other, and THEN form the Justice League? It would make more sense if they had a history and this is somewhat AFTER the Justice League where they come back together with the some animosity they've each harbored for the other.

Regardless, they can't have either win for fear of upsetting the other's fanbase so I'm very curious as to how a 45 year old Batman will not only handle himself but then we will have a Justice League where seemingly every other character will be in or near their prime, lead by a much older Batman? That doesnt add up to me.

Every character is young, they're even going with Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, so depicting Batman in his mid-40's is a little confusing.

    Thoughts?

  10. I dont recall any other movies receiving THIS much hype. I mean we're still like 2 years out, YEARS. Daily we are examining the rumors, set photos, leaks, etc. I think this is very dangerous for DC. With this much hype this early, they're going to have to absolutely obliterate the box office, like multiple weeks as the #1 movie and I frankly don't see it. I want this to be an epic movie, I would love nothing more than to be wrong, and If I am wrong in the end, I'll be on here saying how wrong I was but the casting has put this movie into quicksand. Cavill can't carry the movie alone, the jury is out on Affleck, Eisenberg will have to show some acting that he hasnt yet, Gal Gadot....well she's beyond hope, and the story and general cinematic pacing will have to be pretty darn good too.

Bottom line theres too many poor decisions and unknowns for me to be optimistic. Snyder can pull it off, but they really handcuffed him with regards to surrounding him with talent.

Meanwhile Marvel can't mess up if they wanted to, they put arguably the biggest Name for Guardians (Bradley Cooper) as a voice only actor, throw in a former wrestler and a relatively unproven actor in Pratt, throw in a litte Green Zoe Saldana, boom, cinematic Gold.

Short of being able to physically see the workings at CGC. I am convinced beyond a shadow of a doubt that they sit on non-FT submissions before actually starting to work on them as opposed to grading everything as it comes in and having some books moved in the queue.
