That whole series is common as dirt in North America (both US and Canadian versions) and lives in the dollar bins, but I've found that sets sell reasonably well to European collectors, who have never seen them.

Given how people reacted to the end of the TV series, he actually has an incentive not to finish it.

I'm an Overstreet advisor, and would be happy to approach them with this suggestion, if there's real interest here. Reports are generally due in December of each year, for publication the following summer. I would be happy to play editor and facilitator for anything that gets put together. I was going to say I'm not really a magazine guy, but in reading though the thread, I realized I had 4 of the "top 10" books originally posted, and about 8 boxes of magazines (including Captain Britain and Warrior, which I think should be on the lists!) - so I guess I'm part of the club!

I read it more as a few thousand more for distribution in the UK through networks and companies other than Diamond.

This is an is ongoing debate on these boards. Some people define a comic book as something that fits into a certain box or bag they purchased. Others define it as a printed story told through sequential art, usually with word balloons, and suggest that the size of the bag or box is irrelevant. In 21st century terms, the debate is about platform vs. content. For me personally, a comic book is a comic book in any size. Action Comics #1 is a completely different size than Action Comics #1000, but they're both comic books - a treasury edition, or a magazine-size or digest-size format publication is still a comic book. It just has slightly greater variation in size than the Action Comics examples do. In fact, some magazine-sized comic books are closer to the size of Action Comics #1 than many modern comics books. It seems to me that the debate over "that's not a comic book" started originally with people who wanted to sell a 2nd or 3rd appearance as a 1st appearance, in order to get more money (e.g. Rocket Raccoon, Yoda). So when people say "That's not a comic book," what they really mean is "That's not a comic book of the exact size that has made up about 90% of sales in the North American direct market since about 1982". I'll get down from the pulpit now...

Here's my latest arrivals, courtesy of fellow boardie @Ron C. who I can highly recommend as a great seller (and packer) of books! These are a little lower grade than my typical purchases, but sometimes beggars can't be choosers. The Superman #337 is actually the top (and only!) Whitman copy on the census. A couple of these are duplicates for me, so - as always - I am happy to make trades (or purchases)!

I'm expanding this post for clarity. If @fett was referring to an article on Whitman variants, then I believe it was #38 from 2008, with John Jackson Miller (of Comichron) expanding on an article he had written for the Comic Buyer's Guide #1609. If he was referring to variants more generally, then it's likely John McClure's lengthy article on the typologies of variants from #40 in 2010. An expanded and updated version of this was also published in the 2021 edition of the Overstreet Guide to Grading Comics.

This is the bigger issue to me on WTB… when someone says that 25% below confirmed eBay sales is “too expensive” they’re clearly just trying to pull one over on a fellow boardie.

Seems reasonable… I added my “almost” qualifier so I wasn’t speaking in absolutes. I’ve never understood why Femforce 1 doesn’t sell for more, and I buy it whenever I see it in the (potentially mistaken) belief that the market will wake up one morning, have a strong coffee, and realize its mistake. Is this the exception that proves the rule? With A Distant Soil, I’d say it doesn’t meet the “continuously published” bar… it’s had a number of hiatuses, including one that lasted 7 years, and (I could be wrong, haven’t checked) it feels like it’s been a a few years since any new issues were published.

If it was my top 20 list, it would definitely have Sally Forth 8 and Catwoman 70 on it. It wouldn’t have Wonder Woman 150.

I would suggest that the first issue of (almost?) any indie book that is continuously published for 25+ years is going to have a pretty solid price attached to it.

I’m enjoying it quite a bit… To each their own. Yes, a little ‘Dances with Wolves’ and lot of ‘Lawrence of Arabia’.

Yeah... it makes a great set with the Betty & Veronica 3 covers, a t-shirt trifecta.
