  1. I have an Uncanny X-Men #148 with a cover that is inside out and upside down, but it’s a single cover.
  2. I used to collect bronze only, but that was when I was a kids, back in the 70s. in those days, we called them moderns, though!
  3. Maybe think of this purchase in "classic cover" terms? Joker covers and "Good Girl Art" covers are both recognized hot spots in the market, with their devotees and collectors. However, it seems to me that growth in the prices of GGA has outpaced growth in the prices of Joker covers (on a % basis) in the last 3 to 4 years. Tec 880 and S&LOSH 23 are both moderns, but they probably fit more with these traditional cover art markets than with the "variant of the month club" market we see lots of now. Your mileage may vary.
  4. I also have a 100% rating and 5s on everything else, but only a 4.8 on shipping... It seems to me that people want strong, bomb-proof boxes with padding and cardboard sandwiches for their comics, with some extra freebie books thrown in, but only want to pay the cost of sending a post card.
  5. This is the closest thing I could find to mods jumping sharks...
  6. Nice book! @keithl was looking for one of these a couple of weeks ago in the WTB section
  7. Spider-Ghost, Spider-Ghost, it's her variant costs the most! Rising fast, but don't get caught - Sell it now, while it's hot! Right now! Before it's Spider-toast.
  8. I have a few runs like this that i’m Working on... patience and time are key. Often, the books are not pricy, but they can be hard to find. Maybe try 2 or 3 sets like this at the same time, and chip away at each as opportunities present themselves. Keep an eye on sites like mycomicshop.com as well, as they often have numerous graded books available. At the moment, they only have several copies of #1, but it can change fairly quickly.
  9. My recollection is that I purchased my Voltron #1 from a comic shop, but I never saw other Modern books there. The Charlton reprints were ubiquitous in discount chain stores, though.
  10. I think the OP either wants us to talk him into selling his books, or to talk him out of selling his books. Or both. Ambivalence rocks.
  11. I didn’t know they were behind the Giant Comic Album issues... I have a few of those, and always wondered what their story was. Do you know if this Modern was the same Modern that published the original Voltron series in 1985?
  12. Actually, I think it was the second... the Batman: White Knight Special Edition giveaway was printed under the Black Label, and I believe it came out a week or two earlier.
  13. "Black Label" is not a way of reprinting the book... It's a new DC Imprint, akin to something like "Vertigo" or even "Elseworlds". The book is not being reprinted "under a black label" - the first print was issued under the Black Label logo and banner, and subsequent prints and issues will be as well.
  14. Sorry... Can you tell me again, which were the necessary ones?
  15. Proof positive that the blob is a time traveller.
  16. Hello Mollie - Could you please add the following? Set: DC Whitman Variants Book: Justice League of America #160 (11/78) Certification example: 1288081002 Thanks in advance for your help! Brock
  17. The Hulk issues are mostly later... It looks like this was a low-budget Wolverine collector who nabbed the 180 and 182, but not the pricier 181.
  18. My apologies if this is in the wrong spot for this... This is not my collection, and I’m not seeking to sell anything. I occasionally do some valuation work for insurance companies, and one contacted me recently on behalf of one of their clients, who is looking to sell their comic book collection. This is located in St. Catharines, Ontario – about 1 hour from Toronto, and 45 minutes from Buffalo, NY. Like everyone, I had visions of 1940s treasures, but this is a more modest collection, running from about 1970 to 1995. The owner is an older gentleman who is now looking to sell. I have recently purchased a couple of other collections, and I’m not a dealer, so don’t really have the time and space to take this one on. Overall, there are about 3,100 books, and they have not been cherrypicked. I’ve advised the seller to try to sell this as a single lot. The books are (almost) all bagged, and the seller’s wife works at an office supply store, so they have been carefully stored in 12 large file boxes, about 12” x 20” (30cm x 50 cm). It’s an odd collection, focused on Conan and related titles, Wolverine and Captain America. The bad news is that there is (as can be expected from this time period) a reasonable amount of drek. There are some gems, too. There are a few early bronze keys in lower grade, and then there are a lot of late bronze and copper keys in higher grade (generally about 8.0 to 9.4). I had a quick look in a few boxes, and saw some obvious highlights, including: · Amazing Spider-Man 298, 300 (this is a newsstand copy in about 9.2, based on a quick look) · Batman 358, 428 · Captain Marvel 25 · Conan the Barbarian 1, 24, 275 · Daredevil 172, 173, 177, 180, 182, 254 · GI Joe 1 · Incredible Hulk 180, 182, 449 · Ms. Marvel 17 · New Teen Titans 1 · New Mutants 1 · Nova 1 · Punisher 1, 100, 102 · Savage She-Hulk 1 (x3) · Savage Sword of Conan 1 · Usagi Yojimbo 1 · Warlock 2, 3, 4 · Wolverine (Limited Series) 1 (x3), 3, 4 · Wolverine 1 (x2) There are a lot of #1s (including multiples of things like Alpha Flight, Battlestar Galactica, Micronauts, Moon Knight, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Savage She-Hulk, Star Trek, etc.), and long runs of titles including Avengers, Captain America, Conan (almost complete), Daredevil, Flash (1984), Nova, Preacher (1-65), Punisher, Red Sonja, ROM, Savage She-Hulk, Savage Sword of Conan, Transformers, Venom (multiple miniseries), and Wolverine. The seller seems motivated, and does not appear to have unrealistic expectations. I have no skin in this game, but promised that I would put some feelers out to see if anyone is interested. Feel free to PM me if you’d like more details or an introduction to the owner...
  19. I'm seeing lots of transactions for the regular #1, and a few for the ashcan... Does anyone have a sense of what the Platinum edition of #1 is selling for?
  20. It's not as good as it sounds at first... Most of what gets paid at the border is not duty, but HST. As I understand it, a typical $150.00 order would have been charged about $3.00 in duty and then GST/HST ranging from about $7.50 in Alberta to $19.50 in Ontario to $22.50 in Nova Scotia. Under the USMCA, the $3 duty charge disappears, but the GST/HST charge remains. The exception is on lower value stuff... It used to be that anything under $20.00 was exempted from HST, but this has now been raised to $40.00. All figures are in Canadian dollars, too... so the new limit is really about US$120.
  21. I sold a copy of Batman: Damned #1 on eBay on September 23... The buyer used Buy it Now and took it at $89.99. My eBay account only allows PayPal payment, so I figured all was good. Then I got a note saying that the buyer had used a PayPal eCheck, and I would have to wait for it to clear... The estimated date to clear was October 1. Now it's October 2, and the payment still has not cleared. I haven't shipped the book, but if I have to resell, it's likely to end at a lower price than before. I'd never heard of a PayPal eCheck, and was hoping for some help: Are these common? How long do they usually take to clear? Does anyone know a way to set my eBay or PayPal settings to not accept eCheck payments in the future? Any thoughts or suggestions welcome!
