  1. After moving twice, I switched everything out to shortboxes. I've already had one back surgery (nothing major, just disk related), and don't really want to prompt another. I typically fill up any gaps with empty bags/boards because I started out with cheap bag/boards years ago, and recently switched over to mylites, leaving me a few thousand empty bag/boards I could use as filler.
  2. I'll check that out. I only got through re-bagging/mcp'ing the Crime Suspenstories pile and Frontline Combat last night, so I'll see if it happens across all the titles.
  3. Wow! The green really pops out on this! Beautiful!!
  4. One of my Tales from the Crypt looks like that parallelogram, but slightly less of an angle, so that is good to know. Thanks!
  5. Question for all you experienced EC collectors. I just ordered in golden-age sized microchamber paper and was inserting into all my ECs. On some issues the paper fits nice and flush and there is maybe 1 millimeter of paper that isn't completely covered by the front cover, just due to where staples were placed and the binding in general. On a number of the comics though, there is anywhere from a 1/4" showing, or the paper shows the the book has a slightly diagonal cut from top to bottom, if that makes any sense. The staples aren't misaligned so it's definetely something with the right edge. Can I assume these books are trimmed? Or were the printing presses back in the day notorious for cutting golden age ECs misaligned? The only reason I'm unsure is because the edges, if they were trimmed, look like it was done many years ago. Not sure when people started doing that to make books look better... Any advice would be appreciated! I'm collecting a low/mid-grade run so being trimmed doesn't bother me, but I'd at least like to know in case I end up trading/selling any extras if I upgrade....
  6. Just sent in my check for last time payment to Metropolis for a Crime SuspenStories #22. Can't wait to get this!!!
  7. Well, did think about that regarding all the positive feedback he had previously, but then when you look at most of his prior feedback, it's for items that are only a few dollars each, and now that he's listed higher $ items, he's gone rogue/missing/jail,whatever.... I'll try the Google-a-name suggestion. EDIT: For typos, but also Googled his name and city, and nothing came up. Pretty distinct name also so something should have came up.
  8. New Seller to add to the list. rymes77 Purchased an Amazing #300 from him on May 10th, no item, no contact (and so annoying that I can't open a case until May 29th based on the B.S. shipping option he picked, even though 6 people just left negatives). http://feedback.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewFeedback2&userid=rymes77&ftab=AllFeedback&myworld=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2050430.m2531.l4585
  9. Good action this issue. I think I'm going to try to re-read 1-12 this weekend to refresh my memory on everything.
  10. Hate to say it because he's a nice guy, but Todd is an Overstreet advisor due to having 5 stores and massive volumes. He doesn't really know Moderns. If I were him, I'd be following this board closely or having one of his minions follow it, and as soon as something hits, send a mass email to each store to pull the hot books. He was slow at catching on that Walking Dead was getting big, so I went to two stores right before the show hit and did the "Buy 50, get 50% Off" cover, then by season two, he's finally pricing the comics at "Dealer" prices (i.e the prices at comic shows that you laugh at, when non-key, non-anything issues are priced at $40.00 each...), and they won't sell. Another example, the last $1.00 basement sale was, I recall a full week after the DMZ news hit. Picked up 6 copies of DMZ #1 in the basement and flipped them for $30.00 each on average. I know that is chump change to him, but I'll bet you if he comes across a copy now, it will be at $50.00 and no-one will want it. The only reason i wouldn't consider his stores goldmines is because the lack of bag/boards, and things get beat up over the years.
  11. Here's the quote to the 1st email I sent, must have deleted the second but he basically said IT dept still hasn't resolved the issue of me not being able to see invoice. My question to them was: "Hello! Could you confirm invoice XXXXXX was received? My credit card was charged last week but I haven't seen the invoice show up yet online. Thanks! Response from an Eric Downton at CGC: "yes, we did indeed receive it on 4/18 we have been having intermittent connectivity issues from our database to the website but it is here and safely in process"
  12. It's a bug. I have two emails from CGC, that they have my order, but it's some type of database issue...
  13. Is anyone else not seeing their invoices on the CGC website? I emailed CGC and they promptly responded that it was a database issue and that my comics were received and being processed, but just curious when i'd expect them to show up again. I didn't want to push my luck and ask again...
  14. I'm out. Replaced from my pull list today with Southern Bastards. It was painful having to read the entirety of AOW and I don't really have hope that Kirkman can make the book enjoyable for me any time soon. Needs a hungry new writer on it with some good ideas, because I don't think Kirkman is putting much effort into this.
  15. Argh...2 more time payments and I'll be in!!!....
  16. Bump since I just missed out on a decent one within an hour drive on Craigslist for $100, but I'll keep on looking... Looks like the eBay price is normalizing around $300, even for the 70's/80's era stands...
  17. thanks. In my case, If have some solace in the fact knowing that I've already had her get rid of about 10 garbage bags worth of clothes and shoes so far, so we're compromising at least....
  18. That's hilarious. I had DVR'ed the marthon on AMC around the holidays so me and my fiancee did the same thing. Once it was over, we weren't sure what else to watch....
  19. Thanks for the insight. Good idea on keeping Tony's complete cover run...
  20. Thanks for the insight. I agree that the number of boxes just keeps increasing and that it's not practical to pull things out to read anymore...here's another example... I have 5 short boxes of only Garth Ennis written books including everything Punisher but also everything else he's ever written for other publishers. I would love to read it all again but just will never happen, but can only get pennies on the dollar if I want to get rid of it (aside from maybe Preacher and Boys/Hitman complete runs. I guess that's just how it goes when collecting modern comics...
  21. Here's a question for you Dead collectors if you could help me with your opinion. I have a complete set of Issues 1 through 100, with all the Variants & 2nd Prints. I'm really being hammered by my future wife to cut back on the size of my collection in general, so I'm getting rid of a bunch of runs of various comics and just keeping the keys to keep myself Happy. My idea for my run is to save the below issues, but do you think there are any issues that I should consider keeping that might get tougher to find in the future? I'm not "investing" per se, but i don't want to struggle to find them in the future if I decide I want to re-buy them. Here's what I'm for sure keeping: Issues #1-12 (I just like to know I have the first year for posterity purposes) Issue #19 Issue #27 Issue #33 Blue Issue #48 Issue #50 Superhero Variant Issue #53 Issue #61 Issue #92 Do you think there are any other issues I'll regret getting rid of? I don't feel strongly attached to any of the other variants like the LBCC or Image Expo, so just wondering if you were in my predicament, which issues would you save?
  22. I keep everything in Excel. About 2,700 raw books, 5 or 6 CGC books, and around 250 trades/books..... I'd say the raw number is down from a high of around 4,000 because I've been selling off modern raw runs here and there for the past few years....
  23. This works as a plan B, but in the URL of the website, just hand-key change the last item of the URL. for example, right not it says "...fpart=135". If you replace the 135 with 100, it takes you back to page 100.
  24. I thought about this once, but then I just decided if you want to talk about comics, you just need to go to the local comic shop and make friends. There's 9 or 10 stores in my metro area so it's easy to do, but you might not have as many by you.... I've seen some "graphic novel" meetup groups here but no idea if they get any turnout..I would think that would be more interesting if you treated it like a bookclub where you had to agree to read certain books then discuss once a month, but you'd need to make sure the books are accessible...
