  1. Right. It's mind-boggling. It's literally like hitting the lottery. I have received one 9.9 in 20+ years (ASM 135) back in 2005 or so. To get one today on such a key book is mind-blowing. Of all the 1968 # 1s, other than the Silver Surfer, this is the one to have in 9.9.
  2. I ran across this photo in my archives from the (I think) 1978 Chicago Comicon. George Hagenauer ran the charity auction raising funds for the Literacy Volunteers of Chicago. According to George it was hard to get over $100 for a cover. What are these valued at today? The Subby cover has to be the big winner, right? Amazing Spider-Man 171. Incredible Hulk 170. Frankenstein Monster 7. Sub-Mariner 35. Too difficult for me to ID the others.
  3. So happy for my friend. Dreams do come true!
  4. Bob, you are sooo right. Man, I get tired of looking at collections like this. Sooo much spoon out there!
  5. My old pal, Steve Bissette, was cleaning out some files and found 6 copies of The Saga of the Swamp Thing 21. This was Alan's second issue and his first with the art team of Bissette and John Totleben. Rick Veitch ghosted a few pages in this issue. Tom Yeates did the cover. All 4 signatures in silver Sharpie are displayed nicely on the front cover. These were signed way back in 1983. Condition of the books is very nice but these are not mint file copies. There are only 5 copies left. 1 fine copy ($50). 2 very fine copies ($100 ea). 1 very fine + copy ($125) and 1 very fine/near mint $150). If someone would like all 5 copies the package price is $400. US only. Please add $9.00 for shipping and handling.

  9. Thanks for taking the time to do this and post it. Much appreciated.
  10. I saw that sale previewed last week and considered driving up to see them, but as you said it would just be a waste of time.
  11. It looks like Pete has 100 or so PCH up this week! https://www.ebay.com/sch/m.html?_nkw=&_armrs=1&_from=&_ssn=comics4less&_sop=16&_ipg=200&rt=nc
  12. I don't think so. The 9.2 was only down around 20% from the 12-month average. I would have been pleased with that result. 40% down stings.
  13. Think about the great collections that have surfaced over the years. Most of them "made" the market rather than being offered at the highest point ever for the hobby. It's difficult to imagine Edgar Church's collection coming on the market today. The Promise Collection is a close to that as we'll ever see.
  14. Nice haul, Bob. Is that the Death of Fritz the Cat hiding in that bottom row? The Bijou 1 first is VERY difficult. Jay Lynch told me that the only printer they could get to print the book (a porn printer) wouldn't trim it so he and Skip Williamson did it by hand with an old-fashioned paper cutter.
  15. Tim Conrad designed the logo for the original Chicago Comicon. I never met Tim but I heard he was a good guy. Great artist!
  16. Looking back on 2021 the timing of the selling of the Promise Collection was one of the most fortuitous happenings ever in the comic-book hobby. So many incredible highest graded copies. I think most of these books will be buried in collections for years which is probably a good thing since I can't imagine many will be sold for a profit at the prices the buyers paid.
  17. This was my book. I told my client that I estimated it would sell for $11,000. The previous 12-month average was $19K. He grimaced when I told him and then he said, "Well, I paid 12 cents for it - that's not too bad."
  18. I've owned both. I've had 3 copies of Thunderbolt 1.
  19. I think so too, but the stuff in his auctions are basically commodities. He's not known for having scarce or difficult-to-find books. He needs Heritage's buyers for these types of books.
