  1. My latest Modern submission came back this week including some modern keys like Ms. Marvel 1 and EOSV 2. Only one 9.6 in this batch (and even that I was happy with) especially considering none of the books were pressed. First up, X-Men #135, a classic Claremont/Byrne Pheonix Saga book EOSV #2, 1st appearance of Spider-Gwen Nowhere Men #1 Thought Bubble Variant (only 500 of these were printed) Enormous #2, #4B, #5A, #5B and #6 Comics Heating Up edition And finally, Ms. Marvel #1, Kamala Khan becomes the new Ms. Marvel
  2. ...or Captain Britain salutes you! Like many of us here, I was very sad to hear about Herb Trimpe's recent passing. Whilst most people will remember Herb for his illustrious run on the Hulk (of which I'm also fan), I'll always be grateful for his work on Captain Britain - the character he co-created with Chris Claremont specially made for the Marvel UK. Whilst I never got the chance to meet him, I was recently lucky enough to pick up a piece of his original art from his Captain Britain run (below - Captain Britain Page 3 Issue 16 Vol. 1 from 1976 by Herb Trimpe featuring the first meeting of Captain Britain and Captain America; billed as the "Battle of the Century"). Farewell Herb, thank you for all those amazing memories. To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. New comments can be added below.
  3. Will be curious to crack mine out and see, but I've seen that mentioned around the boards. Had to be internal defects. I'll admit that if the book looks new and unread, I don't review checking the interior because I fear I'll fingerprint or worse, make a crease or small tear by looking at them. I guess I'm taking a $30 gamble per book in that case, that's life... It's a little bit more of a gamble from here in Australia; fortunately of the 14 modern books submitted via MFT, 13 were 9.8s with only one solitary 9.6 (which was a copy of X-Men 135). Additionally the TAT was exactly 15 business days.
  4. These arrived this week courtesy of Rich_Henn. Very happy camper. Chris Bachalo Sketch Cover - Cyclops X-Men: Battle Of The Atom #1 Sketch Variant CGC 9.8 Signature Series Spread #1 Third Eye Variant CGC 9.8 Signature Series Signed by Justin Jordan Wytches #1 Midtown Comics Variant CGC 9.8 Signature Series Signed by Scott Synder & Sean Murphy
  5. Hasn't this already been resolved in the Label Updates? post in the Ask CGC section?
  6. And if you think it was NM- now, imagine what state it will be after being shipped by eBay Global Shipping Program. Avoid! Speaking of shipping, just heard that US is having major delays; my latest CGC submission (including some Enormous books) is stuck in processing hell...
  7. Agree, this is probably best way but with the numbers re-adjusted. Lets use Danes original list as the master (I admire the way you inserted your 4 3 x books at the top of this revised list though) as he created this thread.
  8. Not me, I've learnt the hard way - still miss things occasionally, but not to 8.0 levels on moderns.
  9. It's the same with all issues 2 & 3, both Cover A and Cover B, you simply don't see many out there. I think these will be the sleepers especially considering the numbers printed; if you want to complete a collection you'll be looking to source those. I was lucky that a retailer here in Melbourne, Australia ordered some; hence why I'm sitting on handful. With the low numbers on all these books it could play out many different ways. The first print of the first few issues (led by the Cover A's) may be where people will eventually land when this book gets even more increased attention. It is still very early days and we are just fortunate to be in on ground floor. I still think there is too much emphasis on the NYCC, which when you think about it, is essentially one (albeit a limited print) of four reprints (still, nice to own one...). I suppose given the numbers on the #6 comicsheatingup.net and #7 comiconart.com Medhi sketch variants, should we expect similar heat here eventually?
  10. I also was unaware of this club. Here's my belated application...
  11. Love your work Tim. The pro-active way you've engaged with the community continues to impress me and as Matt Davoe stated in his article on the Enormous print runs I'll permanently support your books (like Burning Fields). While we are on, here is my Enormous NYCC club application, confirmed and en-route soon.
  12. Art Adams (he loves drawing monsters) Bill Sienkiewicz
  13. This is actually right around where I expected it to go, but I thought it would fly past that actually because it was close to $300 very early on. Looking at the prices for the other (also rare, though not as rare, but also definitely 1st prints) #1s, this doesn't seem crazy to me. If the book went for $600+ like some expected, I'd actually be worried. I'm not surprised either. I was bidding on it to complete my collection, but in the end stopped bidding and was glad someone sniped me as I'd had news earlier that... 99 .... Sold one and keeping the other two...also, for now ...98. I finally confirmed my previously ordered copy was en-route and had been graded 9.8. NYCC despite being extremely rare and limited, is still a 2nd print though. I believe 1A, Phantom & Hastings are the ones to watch, especially given they are 1st prints with ridiculously low print runs and much more run to grow.
  14. I really hope it is Peter. Now, imagine the scene, Spiderman unmasks to reveal Peter Parker (played by Tobey Maguire).
  15. Just had an email that the top bid had been retracted, wonder if something fishy is going on with this NYCC edition?
  16. with a back cover sketch? I have a funny feeling you're not joking though...
  17. Great pickup, I love that cover too. I went for the OA for it, but just missed out on it.
  18. What happens in mid-march? No one knows what will happen between now and then, which is my point. I'll be contributing either way - some portion (I hate that, I wish they'd say what portion) of the cash is going to charity so it is a win-win for me. I get to support the creators and the books while helping out a charity. Others will only be in it to sell the books if they should win, so they'll wait to see if anything tanks the speculation before buying in. I'm with you, will be taking part - not expecting to win, but happy to give something back to the creators and support the chosen charity. I'm one of the lucky ones to have a full set (I still have a handful of books including NYCC variants en-route back from CGC) as well as these.
  19. I can't believe CGC are going with "Gambit cameo (pre-dates Uncanny X-Men #266)". That's like saying " Carol Danvers as Captain Marvel cameo (pre-dates Captain Marvel #1)" for Avenging Spiderman 9. What other examples are there?
  20. I agree with you... I was really close to securing the OA for the Enormous 1 Cover A, but someone beat me and others to it. Congrats to whoever was lucky enough to have secured that - great score especially in light of this news.
  21. Here are the Enormous 1 variants thus far with print runs (not sure if Tim or Larry can shed some light on the aprox/unknown numbers) : The 1st print run featured 4 variants: Enormous 1 Phantom Variant [544 printed] Enormous 1 Hastings Variant [800 printed] Enormous 1 Cover A [Approx 2K printed] Enormous 1 Cover B [Approx 2K printed] The 2nd print run featured 4 variants: Enormous 1 2nd Print [unknown] Enormous 1 NYCC 2nd Print [100 printed] Enormous 1 Phantom Kaiju Variant 2nd Print [unknown] Enormous 1 Phantom Creature Feature Variant 2nd Print [unknown - although Larry intimated that this was the scarcest copy of all] I think all the 1st prints will be the ones to watch, especially when you consider the small numbers printed for all four books. The NYCC may also be key here, but only for completists (like myself), mainly due to there only being 100 printed. The true key book is the over-sized Image one-shot, but that will be hampered by the fact it [currently] can't be slabbed. It will be interesting to see how Issues 2 & 3 shape up as well, as they were extremely limited in numbers (less than 2k each cover A and B variant) and, as those of us onboard at the time will recall, distribution was extremely limited. The other one to watch will be the super low print run of Issue 6 comiconart, comicsheatup.net and ComicExposure variants, which as Tim/Enormouscomic states, introduced important new characters.
  22. I knew something had happened when a couple of books I had on ebay were sold BIN. Great news Tim, well deserved indeed, a great book and I'd like to think I speak for a lot of us here, the way you've engaged with us and shared news has been great. Congrats to you Tim and to Mehdi and can't wait to see the show.
  23. Nico Minoru. Ex Runaways, Avengers Arena & Avengers Undercover.
  24. These arrived today. Devoured the story and art, this book just keeps getting better and better. Now if only we knew what was in store for us... Interestingly the card stock on the Blank, whilst different to the gloss on the normal copies/variants, it isn't matt paper stock what I'd expect from a blank/sketch variant and has a slight gloss to it... not sure if it's great for sketching. Still intrigued if this is the same paper stock that ComiConArt.com blank/ sketch variant that Court decided to send back and get reprinted? D
