  1. Ya... I really wanted this book and kinda had a nuclear snipe set for 3 sec to go.

    :applause:

Congrats Za!!! :hi: Big winna on that one. I think you made the right call as I doubt one will be hitting the bay for a very, very long time (if ever). It's good to know a fan got to pick it up. I half expected some wealthy half fan to snatch it up and lock it away in a vault.

You got the cream of the crop of this series that's for sure. Congrats again!

  2. Totally shocked by the price. I was expecting $150-165 lol

If i could have gotten it for $165 i would have driven to Frank's House in a Uhaul (helped him move) and then let him staple my face to his Area Rug just for & giggles! I bid it all the way up to $700 and then realized that my wife would give birth to our 5th @&$king child (immaculate conception BTW) if i would have won. Of course she isnt aware of the $610 in committed money i owe for some comics. Ha ha ha ha ha!

    :roflmao:

Usually I hear a bargain for the left nut but you took it to the next level.

  3. I wonder if there will be a flurry of snipers right at the end.

I expect there will be a flurry of snipe bids at the end. Care to try and guess what the winning bid will be? I say $1,389.

I'm going to have to go $1388 :roflmao:

    $1390 for me!

  4. Thanks for the info Frank! (thumbs u

Ok, so it looks like a complete set is gonna be tough to accomplish! I will have to get the two ashcans (C2E2 and SDCC) and the self-published #1!!

This is gonna be insane... :ohnoez:

Very true! This is going to be one tough set to get. The only person who I believe has a shot is Access since he already has 2 of the 3. Plus, with that new info, I find it unlikely that one will just pop up on eBay in the near or distant future.

Get cozy gents, this is going to be one helleva an auction!

  5. I didn't win the SDCC set... but I did win the Blue Label ECCC from last night. I never had one and needed one. :)

    Nice grab ZaCrew! (thumbs u

BTW, did you ever take a glance through the ECCC copy I sent you a while back?

  6. Just in! :whee:

I've been patiently waiting for the right moment to sit down and read #6. So tonight, when the house is quiet and my is mind free, I'll finally be able enjoy a dbl espresso and my favorite title. awww...pure bliss.

That cover to #4 sticks out to me as the cover I'm most likely to remember 20 years from now...assuming I can remember anything 20 years from now lol

O ya that #4 cover is :cloud9:. My favorite cover for sure. My second fave would have to be the ECCC cover or maybe the #1 2nd print cover...ahhhh...too many good looking covers to choose from.

Just finished up #6. Loved it! The art was fitting but the writing/story structure really stood out to me in this one. It was strange...when I was reading one of the panels Harrison Ford's voice took over. It was the line "Whatever you say, princess". I chucked in my head after that one.

I'm excited for CMs return next month and of course PIRATES!

  7. so, five ghosts, more suited for a movie, tv show, cartoon or video game.

Good question! I'll pick answer e. All of the above.

Honestly though, I'd love to see a motion comic just because I enjoy CM's art so much. I know this wouldn't boost sales but it is the one I'd personally enjoy the most. My second pick would be a video game (I can already imagine how awesome this would be).

If anyone is looking for an ECCC blue label there is one ending soon that might slip through the cracks.

  8. Just in! :whee:

  9. Yeah, it's a keeper.

Not sure how old some of you are but i was 8 or 9 when Raiders of the Lost Ark came out and i think that is why this resonates with me so much. It reminds me of Raiders which takes me back to my childhood...simpler more peaceful times. :)

    ^^

This is the exact same reason I love this comic! My dad and I use to watch Raiders all the time when I was little so when I read Five Ghosts it takes me back and brings the kid out in me. I'm a young gun though so Raiders was already a classic when I first watched it.

  10. Very sweet box. Can I suggest adding some old repurposed handles for carrying though? Would round it out nicely, and well, make it easier to pick up too. :headbang:

Thanks! You know I was think about adding some handles too. I still might if I can find some that match. I was also thinking about starting a thread in another section of the forum to show woodworking fused with comics.

Here is a quick look into my next project (sorry not FG related):

  11. Thanks for all the kind words!!! It was a lot of work starting this from scratch so I really appreciate the comments. Now that I have a much better understanding of the tools I plan to correct some of the minor flaws.

That box was considered the rough draft and was made from a cheap pine. Today we started a prototype model made out of a beautiful white oak. We're changing the joints and a few other minor features. It's been an amazing experience working in the shop and I can't wait to find out how this box turns out.

  12. I wanted to stop by and show off a recent project that I just finished last week. I realized my Five Ghost collection was getting quite large and the wine boxes I was storing them in didn't do them justice. So I decided to build a special home just for them. Here is what I came up with (I put them in spoiler tags so they wouldn't take up as much room):

    In progress:

The top pictures better represent the color of the stain. They were taken using natural light and not with a flash like the bottom shots. My goal was to make it look like a treasure box and I think the hardware really brings that out. A brad nailer was used to put the box together and the visible nails are actually just for looks (they were purposely rusted and cut short).

    I know what you're thinking:

I wanted to thank ZaCrew for pressing a few of these books for my collection. He turned my ECCC 9.6 blue label into a 9.8 and also fixed a mean blunted corner on the samurai SDCC variant.

    Thanks for looking!

  13. So I learned something interesting today: upon calling the CGC about slabbing the five ghosts ashcans I was told that the CGC is reluctant to use the 'ashcan' nomenclature on a label because 'they're so easy to reproduce'. They asked me a plethora of questions about if the issue was in color, b&w, etc. They asked where I obtained it and a variety of other questions.

Regardless, they did say when provenance can be proven from the publisher or artist that they would be willing to list 'ashcan' on the corresponding CGC label obtained.

Their head grader "Shawn Caffrey" apparently makes these sort of decisions upon speaking with the artists or publisher.

I thought that may be helpful for any of you closet ashcan folks out there. I know Machiavelli submitted one previously and the designation was something like "published before Image" or something of that nature. I know he and I discussed this briefly and I'm not sure if he went back to the CGC to see if the label could be updated to reflect more properly what the printed item was.

It's clear that the comic was in fact the ashcan, but I can now understand why the CGC didn't label it as such.

Yo access! Just got around to catching up on the Five Ghost chatter in here. Great info! I never sent my ashcan back and probably will just leave it as is. The first time I had the label changed they regraded it from a 9.4 to a 9.2 so I'm a bit hesitant to send things back now.

I just got back my SDCC set which were all 9.8's :headbang: but somehow they marked issues 4 as being issue 3. So now I have 2 copies that are labeled #3. Looks like I have no choice but to send these back. If you are planning to send your ashcans in let me know via pm.

  14. Lovin the NYCC variant! Can't wait to get my greedy mits on one. Now I just have to figure out if I should buy a raw when they first hit or wait patiently for a graded 9.8 hm

    Thanks for the news!

When it comes to the phantoms, I personally don't buy them but I have to admit that #7 cover is tempting.
