  1. Love this cover. One of the first 3 Peps I ever purchased! (others were 23 and 24 ... sure wish the dealer had a 22 as well back then, would have been cheap). Congrats!
  2. In an effort to distract myself from all the high grade MLJ beauties that have been posted lately, and while I wait for my 9.0 Church Zip 21 to arrive in the mail, I decided to grab this beauty from Ted at superworld today. He's calling it a 6.5 with white pages. We'll see how it looks in person. Should go nicely with my Crippen 6.0.
  3. Finally had some time to myself today and went to pull my Ginger 4 for a once over. Then I remembered that I promised a group shot.
  4. Here's mine ... PS is it just me, or are images disappearing from posts?
  5. There is nothing wrong with hoarding! I'm a fan. Here's an oldie but goodie that's only gotten worse over the last 10 years.
  6. Since he's two towns away, I drove up to Sean's office today to pick up my books. While I was there I asked which Archie's he kept. He pulled the box and I must admit I was drooling (not really, but in my mind). Insane 7.5, 8.0 and 8.5 set of early Archie, Laugh and B&V, and like most of what we bought, all WHITE pages! It's nice to know that collections like that are still out there hidden in attics in and basements.
  7. Sorry, here you go. Would love to have these in higher grade, but all 4 of these were missing from my collection (and when you have as few holes as my collection does, it's rare to knock off four at once). *pics are from eBay so best I have for now.
  8. Picked up four books this evening from tonight's sellmycomics lot. I did lose out on a fifth in the last second. Still, pretty pleased.
  9. It's not just their coverless stuff. I have had a number of exchanges with them over the years regarding their consignments. Most of them sit around for ages because the asking price is so outrageous, and when you reach out they always say the same thing, "it's a consignment and the seller won't budge." I think we can all agree the "I was just following orders" defense has never worked well for anyone. At some point, and it's way past this point for me, it's damaging to their reputation. They need to put their big boy pants on work with the seller to land on a price that is realistic. I, for one, am (and yes I know they won't lose sleep over this) done buying from them until they do.
  10. I think they are off the reservation. Their incomplete coverless pricing is ridiculous, and I don't care if it's consignment... they should be counseling their consignors.
  11. Nice little grab last week... a seller on eBay had two 30-book auctions of his late 50's/early 60s Archie collection for sale with 20 dollar starting bids. Some looked rough but others seemed in nice condition (though not all were pictured). I emailed and told him I was local and asked what he'd take for all 60 books. He replied $75 so I jumped on it. They arrived the other day and there were a ton of little treasures inside. Madhouse 1-10, Pals & Gals 23, a bunch of great looking Archie, B&V and Jughead books, and these 15-centers!
  12. Happy to share this week's little score. After attempting to negotiate even the slightest decrease for a slabbed 5.0 copy, and being told how rare the book is, I decided it'd be best if I stopped the email thread before "thanking" him for educating me on the mysterious world of MLJ comics. A quick eBay search reveled another copy for sale, poorly categorized, awful images, etc. Seller had some other books and knew enough that they were complete and unrestored. This baby arrived today and to my delight is a really lovely copy. Other than the visible upper right and lower left corners, this is a tight, flat, attached, complete, unrestored, C to OW, VG (maybe better) copy of a book my collection was missing, and a cover I really like. $249
  13. GA Consignment I'll admit upfront, I'm posting this because I've been put off as of late by the far-from-realistic pricing of an assortment of consigned items on eBay. That said, I know that there are a healthy mix of dealers and collectors here and I'm curious to hear everyone's thoughts. My stance is this... everyday on eBay people try to sell comics at unattainable prices because either they think their brittle attic find must be worth a fortune, or they do a like-item search and see the asking price on something NM and assume their FR/PR copy is worth the same -- two of many examples. Most of us smile and ignore these random sellers, and admittedly from time to time I've offered advice (i.e. check sold prices, visit your lcs, remove that picture where you flattened the book open, etc). But when someone goes to a known entity to leverage their reputation to help sell a comic, what responsibility should that dealer take in counseling with regard to value before posting? Is it not damaging to one's credibility to list a worthless book for an unrealistic price just to appease the seller?
  14. I certainly considered going for it last night, but tax time vs a third copy won out. Very nice looking issue.
  15. So many responses... but trying to keep things on the up and up. Hehe
  16. Way to go, Peter! Oh and I guess that's one more for me.
  17. Well, it only took me a 30 years to find a copy, but I have finally completed my Jackpot/Jolly Jingles run. Back cover is a little rough, but the cover presents nicely, the interior looked great in the pictures on eBay, and the price was reasonable enough at $150.
