  1. As a kid collecting Archie/MLJ, Katy Keene never really appealed to me. If I bought any they were part of larger collections and my mom would always comment on how much she loved reading them in the fifties and playing with the paper dolls. In my 30s the completist in me decided it was time to add them all to the fold.

Anyone who collects Katy knows there is more to the challenge than just finding the books you're missing. They need to be complete... and sure, all books do, but I can't think of a title that was more abused 65 years ago by little girls with scissors, like my mom, so they could change paper outfits on paper dolls.

The boards have proven very useful over the years in helping me fill holes, determine page counts, and identify which numbers do not exist (even if Overstreet says they do), but I have yet to see a thread dedicated to the Pin-Up Queen.

So show us what you've got!

  2. First of all, amazing books as always, Jason. Congrats. :golfclap:

I just got a few back from CGC the other day too, but these ladies have been keeping me busy.

I am mostly satisfied with what came back. First, this copy tied for highest grade, and is always a tough one to find with a good spine, so I am pleased.

This copy I bought from Steve and it graded out as he advertised it. Love the page quality as well.

My Suzie 62, while a great grade, could probably fair better with a good pressing. I got zinged on a few small dents and a light crease on the back cover. I might send to Matt for a press and have him re-submit.

Then, of course, there is my disappointing book. Admittedly I just didn't pay attention to the two little spots that some previous owner colored in with a pen, likely because they were so small, and also because I just loved the overall presentation of the book. I do think they were a bit hard on it grade wise noting some light creasing. Not sure what to do with this one... Press? Have Matt attempt resto removal? Just buy another higher grade copy? Or, leave as is or crack it, and just be as happy with it as I always was.

I really need a good slab scanner ... I'm not selling, but it would make for better posting. Feel free to hit me up with any top recommendations. And yes, I know there are a dozen threads on the subject, but it's too much for this exhausted father of 3 to sift through right now. zzz

  3. They're not 8.0's but I have been picking up some fun stuff lately too...

Was missing this one, and happy to have it thanks to a fellow boardie.

These two I have copies off, but couldn't pass up the dupes.

Also picked up a laugh 34 I was missing. Those who shall not be named slabbed it an 8.0, so I'm guessing it'd be a 7 or 7.5 CGC. Still pleased to check it off the list.

  4. I think GoldenPRGuy and Gino get em all...

oh God, I hope not. I still need too many of them.

    Nice Hangman(s) and Jackpot, Gino!

On a few positive notes, I did upgrade my Archie 25 last night ... right before I went into the OR to see my Golden Girls born! Pretty decent night all around ... and yes it's a bit odd that I was watching an auction end at the hospital, but honestly it was relaxing me while I waited for them to come get me.

  5. Anyone else see that raw incomplete Archie 1 on ebay?

"Fresh from an estate in central Kansas"

I couldn't resist and made an offer to the guy.

He accepted my offer so I am now the proud owner of my 3rd Archie 1 (yes, I guess I'm a hoarder), 2 of which are missing the middle 3 wraps (as if 1 set of middle wraps wasn't hard enough to find in the wild, now I have to find 2 sets of middle wraps).

I was going to skip putting in an offer, but the cover looked really nice to me (better than both of my current covers), so I gave the guy a lowish offer and he went for it.

Please please please someone find a coverless copy for me, or atleast some scans of the 3 inner wraps (I should have made scans of my complete copy before I sent it to Kenny for resto)

I will post photos when I get the comic.

Nicely done, Todd! Needless to say, we were all watching it. I never stopped looking for the first set for you so I'll just stay the course. Three A1's! Now you're a bigger hoarder than me.

Love this cover. Lucey did know his curves. I also feel like his covers always has outfits with more texture than other artists. Anyway, great books. I have the others in mid to high grades, but I've been looking to upgrade this one for a while. Thanks for sharing!

  7. I was sad to give up my 4.0, but couldn't pass this one up. It's a beautiful copy.

Yeah well, I hope you're not losing any sleep. Don't get me wrong, the hoarder in me would like to own a dozen copies in varying grades, but I would have traded a 4.0 for a 6.5 in a heartbeat. I'm just shocked you'd actually consider putting your 22 on the block. You'd have to pry it from my cold dead hands.

I'm going to be selling both of them so I can outright buy a house on the Eastern Shore. Then with any leftover/saved money I have I'll be buying lower grades of both books.

    That's crazy talk :insane:

Gentleman, by now you should both surely know that I am indeed a mad woman! Mad, I say!

    :insane:

Don't count or real estate increasing in value. :insane:

Hah! That's pretty true, but I don't want to rent a place, I want to outright buy a home and you know...be an adult! lol

Adults mortgage their home at a good rate and write off the interest. Adults realize that buying a home outright is nothing but one big liability. And most of all ADULTS DON'T GET RID OF THEIR COMIC BOOKS! :sumo:

  8. I was sad to give up my 4.0, but couldn't pass this one up. It's a beautiful copy.

That is very grown up of you! Sounds like an awful idea. ;)
