  1. I've noticed a disturbing trend.....I don't own any of these comics that are heating up.

Since I don't flip right away, but put investing comics away and let them simmer, I'm noticing an awesome trend (for me at least) where variants et al that weren't doing anything are now skyrocketing. Have bunch of the Venom Variants that weren't doing much 1-2 years ago. Sadly I sold the Spider-Man for $140 2 months after it was released. But, now that that variant series has taken off, my 2 copies of Uncanny X-Force, Hulk, Iron Man, and a few others may just make up for it! :headbang:

  2. The price increase is a nice little surprise. I love when I don't check the hot books for a while, then look at one and see stuff that I picked up a couple years ago go up.

Sold the X-Men Legacy for like $40 2 months after the release date, but also sold the Amazing Spider-Man at the same time for $140

Feeling better now though, as I have AT LEAST 2 of the X-Force, plus The Hulk, Defenders, FF, Iron Man, and probably another X-Men and Avengers book. Thought a lot of these weren't going anywhere at the time.

  3. Ron Perlman might make a good Cable.

The best Cable would be Clancy Brown, voice, look, and size would be perfect.

....Oh, and he can act, too..

You're right and he would be a great pick. (thumbs u

He's gotten too old for that part unfortunately. I'd sure take the prison guard from Shawshank or the leader of Earth 2 or the Kurgan..

He has a recurring role on Sleepy Hallow and it's great when he is in the episode.

Cable's supposed to be old though, like 50's or so.

  4. Speaking of black characters, Bishop could have been awesome in X-Men. Get your A or B list actor for him. He's an interesting character, both visually and story-wise. Don't have to try and change characters, and maybe we wouldn't be stuck with Teen Wolf Beast and the same old characters yet again. .....but, they decided not to use him. Great move, Marvel.

It was Fox, but regardless, Bishop had no business being in DoFP. Ditto for Blink and Quicksilver, but he was a highlight. I hear you though. Sometimes it's a step from page to screen. Other times it's a leap.

Well....he has a lot more business than many of the characters there. Not in the classical story sense, but in the fact that he's a time traveler, is from that future, is in follow-up storys from that future, etc.

  5. So you think the movies are better than the comics ? Captain America has been in roughly 7500-8000 comics and they couldn't find enough material for 3 movies ? You think Samuel Jackson is causing people to show up in droves to the Marvel movies ? He was probably why Star Wars did so well. ;)

To each their own. I think writers like Stan Lee just had a lot more vision than the current group of movie people making these shows. There are almost none that I would pay to see twice. (shrug)

They also had 70 years of Cap material and they chose a storyline from 2005.

I think you can't get too caught up in a movie being like a comic or book. There are tons of movies based off books that are inconsistent. There is a difference translating from reading to viewing.

Ya, but unnecesary or baffling changes are what's goofy.

Also, on the subject of getting a good actor, a good actor should be able to conform to a range of characters (within reason).

  6. I agree with every part of that Authority. If they want to improve characters by adding (here's a new twist) a good STORY then do so. These established characters have a back story and history - its not broke so don't fix it.

So, is everyone going to rail on Avengers 2? The backstory for Ultron is going to be changed since Pym is not the creator. Nebula and Yondu in GOTG look nothing like their comic book counterparts. Groot's speech pattern was nothing like the comic counterpart. Heimdall looks nothing like his comic counterpart. Bucky and Steve Rogers were not roughly the same age as shown in the movie. Modok appearance is much, much different in the comic. Sam Wilson in the 616 universe is pretty far removed from a military man in the comic. Jarvis is a butler, not a computer. I could go on and on here. Even how the Avengers came together in the comics has nothing to do with how they were assembled by SHIELD on the big screen.

The number of liberties the movies and TV are taking with these comic characters is quite huge. Having a decent actor play the part seems to be the least offensive change IMHO.

All things you listed where reasons why Marvel movies are very so-so for me.

I agree. Hillbilly Yondu ? What, Jar Jar Binks wasn't available ?

    Hahahaha!!! Ya, I mean, cmon.

I really don't know the character, but after reading about him for two minutes on WIkipedia,....ya, no.

And, what, they were DYING to get A-Lister Michael Rooker???

I like the cut of your jib.

  9. the shops in my local area didn't get but 1 copy each and they were gone pretty fast... They had a poop ton of the Halloween cover though...

So I did a few BIN on ebay for $15 shipped.

Anyone else notice the Marvel 75th Anniversary Deadpool covers this week being pretty hard to grab? The 3 shops I hit at 11:30am were all sold out...

The Human Torch cover is the money one (in terms of art and homage factor)!

Grabbed that for $20 today, and the Connors Harley variant for $20 as well at a shop.

  10. There's a back issue Pokemon card market?!?

    Not here buddy,

I was simply taunting.( I do that sometimes )

On a recent Marvel conference call it was cited that a tight synergy between the comics & movie universe was in the works.

Falcon is Cap in the comics.

I'm speculating he'll be Cap in the movies too...

    Or something...

And I would counter-speculate that for better or worse, it would not make financial sense for Marvel to make Captain America black in a movie, unless its Denzel or Will Smith.

    Carl Weathers.

    (thumbs u :headbang::golfclap:

    Yeah...Marvel would NEVER do that!

    Does Samuel L Jackson count...?!?

If you think that changing the race of Nick Fury or even Human Torch is even remotely the same as changing race of Captain America from a movie marketing persepective...well you're wrong. Too iconic, too many people would be against it (although not me!), too many people value 'whiteness' as integral to the representation of 'America' (and that character), both domestically and internationally. I just don't have as much faith in America, or the world market at large. There would be a large financial dip, to the point where it just wouldn't be worth it to risk it, UNLESS the star power of the actor were great enough to overcome those perceptions.

Very different from Fantastic Four, which is far less well known INTERNATIONALLY to begin with, and the core of the book is about science and family, not "America", and the Human Torch spends most of his time ON FIRE.

1 - I don't think it would affect movie goers. They're going to see the movies no matter what. ( I mean, they've made bigger, more pointless, bafling changes to characters, and people still see them, and really don't care).

2-What's the point of changeing a character's skin colour in the movies??? If you want diversity, then use characters with the desired skin colour. Simple as that.
