  1. "There are a variety of other novelty premiums that can be incorporated into labels and wrappers. For example, micro-encapsulated fragrance and press varnish technologies are known. This technology, known generally as “SCRATCH & SNIFF” has been used as a sampling medium for perfume companies and has been printed on inserts distributed at department stores, for use in magazines, in children's books and the like. In this invention, micro-encapsulated fragrance technology can be incorporated into the labels or wrappers either as a play premium or as a method for allowing a manufacturer to preview one or more scents either within that particular product or as a panel of scents for related products. In this technology the fragrance is incorporated into capsules and the capsules can optionally be incorporated into an ink. Abrasion of the surface containing the capsules result in the release of the fragrance. FIG. 15 provides a label 162 with at least one fragrance-associated ink image 164. Scratching of the image 164 (FIG. 15A) results in release of the fragrance (FIG. 15B). In one example, a shampoo or perfume manufacturer can incorporate their fragrance on a label for consumer use. In another embodiment, a fruit juice manufacturer can print one or more fruit scents on a particular beverage label for play or for marketing purposes. Micro-encapsulated technology is known in the art including SCIENTIFIC technologies (Sandy Alexander Inc., Clifton, N.J.) or micro-encapsulated technologies, such as those available from Minnesota Mining & Manufacturing (St. Paul, Minn.)."

  2. I had not heard of DC's rub and smell comics until now but I am wondering if the value decreases when the comic no longer has a smell.

I wonder if the addition of this "smell" is harmful to the book over time? Is it even worth picking up if the smell greatly increases the degradation process of the comic itself?

Totally was thinking that. I wonder what they did end up using.

  3.

.....Which is $25 cheaper than local store "Book Heaven" had it listed at for like 7 years after it was released, before they went out of business.

  4. I have no idea how some of these books (MOS 17 especially) go for the prices that they do - I have no idea who is buying them but clearly someone is.

    What happens, I think, is:

    1) They print millions.

    2) After the initial hype, they become worthless.

    3) People don't take care of them since they're worthless (ex. longboxes full of them, jostled around, getting bent, no boards, thrown out or given away, etc.)

    4) The number of high grade copies decreases until those become more scarce.

    5) When the demand for the issue starts rising, people realise that it's worth something.

    6) The 3 milion high grade copies that once existed is down to 800,000 high grade copies.

Although the remaining good copies of the comic still exist in huge numbers, a lot of the extreme excess that speculators bought (ex. 100+ copies per person) has effectively been ruined.

  5. Wow. Makes me laugh looking at the length of Nomad's mullet. What editor gave the thumbs up on that design?

The same guy who was giving Bishop and John Romita Jr.'s Archangel the okay.

And on the subject of hair, how did the Scalplock (bald/short hair with long pony tail at the top), become a 90's comic hairstyle???

And what where those headpiece thingys that X-Men and X-Force loved so much (Gambit, Havok, Shatterstar, etc etc etc)??? I mean, they're sort of cool, but what kind of actual garment are they??? I'd love to see the real life version.

  6. Variant covers are so overdone.

    #overit.

I agree for the most part. I'm pretty selective with the ones I get since there are so many. It's both a blessing (due to the great artwork) and a curse (due to the amount made -- especially with Marvel's current method of pimping out #1s with a minimum of 4 variants). Some are the price of a classic key, which is ridiculous. But that just my 2c

I am still blown away by the prices Greg Horn was getting for his slabbed Gamestop variants with his and Lee's sig and a quick sketch.

    just wow...

Crazy prices, but the Wolverine cover art is fantastic! Love it.

  7. Except for the maple leaf lol

    :jokealert:

Hey, maple leafs and boobs go together like pucks and ice, or Mounties and horses, or syrup and pancakes.

Come on up! I can show you all of the above!!!

I must be the least Canadian Canadian. Hate hockey, hate winter, not fond of REAL maple syrup (give me Aunt Jamima any day!)

what about poutine and ketchup chips?

Poutine's pretty awesome. Ketchup chips are up there in the favourite chips ranks. Is ketchup chips Canadian??? I thought that was fairly universal (or at least, in North America).

I can't speak for Mexico, but in America, generally no ketchup chips. I don't just mean its not popular, I mean they dont' sell them at stores and most people have never heard of them. There maybe some regional pockets that eat them near the border I guess? But I think generally not a thing.

Wow.That's crazy. And you guys have everything. Like, probably 50 times the flavours, varieties, etc. of every food imaginable. I remember last time I was in Syracuse, and the grocery store had like 10 different combinations of pretzel, chocolate, peanut butter, popcorn snack mixes.

  10. Anyone seen this? Amazing Spider-man 1.4 Stan Lee Collectible variant available only at Fan Expo. Sports a J. Scott Campbell cover!!!!

    Fan Expo Variant

Any Canadian boardies attending Fan Expo? I'd love to pick up a couple of those if one of my Canadian board buddies would be so kind. :foryou:

I promise I won't use the word hell. lol

I'm going on Friday. Gonna get there really early so we get in the doors fast. Only problem is I'm with the family and they don't move as fast as me for books, so I'll do my best, but no promises...

Hahahaha!! Love it! My wife says that I get into this "zone" when I'm at a convention. hahaha.

  11.

Just read #1 last night. It was pretty good.

Was one of those sci-fi/fantasy style comics where they just throw you into the world, mention a whole bunch of weirdo terms without explaining anything, and you really just have to read on to figure the world out.

From the letter page, it seems like Remender has been working on this for a while, and is in it for the long haul. Should have picked up some extras.

  12. If I had $30 or whatever it costs to see a movie nowadays I'd take my 9 year old. Maybe I can con my mother into taking us.

The above statement is so sad.

    lol:sorry: but, lol

(I can tease because my oldest starts college next month and it's on our dime! )

:eek:O ya, isn't University like 60 grand a year in the States?

  13. GOOD LORD I hope so as I had not gotten around to selling my huge pile of BA GOTG books yet. If the movie is really good there is some hope to them having some staying power (the marvel presents set and the defenders books are still quite reasonable, for example, I understand, no groot or rocket racoon or starlord or...)

    Bring back D and A!

  14. perceived rarity is what is driving the price. Unfortunately neither issue is of importance in terms of characters or story. Issues 129 and 8?? meh. I'll stick with my regular covers I paid $3 for. Same insides and I save $300 lol

I think this about a lot of books, yet I own the EoW RRP lol

If you gotta have it, you gotta have it.

Ya, but that one is the best cover, so it has that going for it as well.

    :hi: dukes

Haha. Well, it's true. That was the one they used for the adds as well, then on release, we were stuck with the comme ci comme ça green and blah cover.

  15. Anyone been following Wool since Wednesday? Came out this past week and seems to be picking up speed. One auction went off in the $30 range. Looks to be a small print run.

Hate these situations. I ordered one copy, to read, based solely on the Previews synopsis.

So..........its' worth $20-$30 or whatever, but that's useless to me, because I don't sell anything from my collection that I didn't pick up with the intention to sell. And I'm not made of airports, so I can't get multiples of every title.

    :pullhair::(

  17.

I don't think its shilly. I don't have either of those books but I had a feeling they would blow up. The last to combined sketch sales went for $199 and $249 so who knows what people are willing to pay for all 4. I've heard there are as few as 75-100 and up to 500 of each made. Suffice it to say, both of these titles have grown big audiences so not everyone who wants 1 will get them. 2c

Not a shill that was me trying to hide my purchase on a new account from my girlfriend. lol

    :roflmao: :roflmao: :roflmao:

    Post of the year!!!
