  1. I really need to stop.. I already have two ... And last night I bought a 3rd (btw one of them was purchased when it first came out)
  2. Wow, I just checked those images.. that's DEFINITELY not a 9.8 Wow, I wish I could tell a 9.8 by looking at a 2-D image of a book in a slab like you can, I'm learning from the wrong people all along. Who put out a memo for a authenticating grades through 3D images and didnt send me a copy
  3. Schultz' work has huge influences from ECs finest, Williamson, Frazetta and Wood.. I used to collect all things Schultz and D Stevens in the 80s because they were the only 2 cats who got it down to a science.. If youre into his artwork I also recommend checking some of William Stout's work, you wont be disappointed!
  4. Wow, I just checked those images.. that's DEFINITELY not a 9.8
  5. The 50. 00 one I bought, and let me tell you it's alot better than 8.0. I would say it's 9.4/9.6. People see that one spine crease that is production related, and grade down for it. Congratulations (thumbs u There are alot of sellers on eBay who dont know how to grade and SERIOUSLY undergrade just to be on the safe side - those are usually NOT dealers and prefer to just make a quick buck selling a book instead of chasing it up the ladder. I cant tell you how many books I bought which were 9.4-9.8s and were graded as fine, sometime even VG.
  6. A few of these sold pretty well this month: 111.99 50.00 60.00
  7. Wow ! I would have bet against this just a few short years ago. Is Moon Knight a new Marvel movie ? http://www.ign.com/articles/2015/10/15/netflix-could-be-developing-a-moon-knight-series I cant tell you how many NM copies of the 1980 series Ive passed on for dirt cheap
  8. (thumbs u To celebrate, I bought 5 copies of XT #1
  9. While on the bound books topic, heres a beautiful example of a custom made book of a lesser known series/title which sold quite well. http://www.ebay.com/itm/ADVENTURERS-Custom-Bound-Hardcover-Omnibus-with-ELF-WARRIOR-NINJA-ELITE-more-/291541350846?hash=item43e137f9be&nma=true&si=iQLOBnOThRrfulebBPzazTfAY5s%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557 This is a SmythSewn binding. This means there is absolutely no gutter loss AND it also means the book can easily lay open on a table. This is the best (and most expensive) way of creating a hardcover. It is superior to glued or oversewn bindings.
  10. This is not a groundbreaking price for this book, maybe even a good deal for the buyer given the scarcity of these in auction format on eBay, but well worth mentioning http://www.ebay.com/itm/CGC-8-0-Visions-1-1st-Flaming-Carrot-Signed-by-Bob-Burden-NO-RESERVE-/131616770839?hash=item1ea4f88b17
  11. Only thing we need is a 5 sec cameo appearance of Groo in GOTG (ala Howard & Cosmo the dog) and the prices for Groo books will be soaring
  12. Joe Koch has a few of those last I recall, is that where you got them from? Hold on to these, Im pretty sure Groo will appreciate in value sooner or later.. Im pretty sure print run was large (just look at Starslayer #2 thats a major key book but I suspect because of a huge print run the price is not all quite there), but those are early appearances so all good. I just scored a sick deal on 40+ copies of Destroyer duck #1 the other day and theyre all VFNM
  13. for some reason #6 has been commanding a premium for a long time now
  14. I keep on seeing them and cant resist them http://www.ebay.com/itm/171963538631?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
  15. Because this is a thread about comics heating up and that comic is heating up and there is the reasoning for it. We're not debating the merits of options. That's best left to he Moderns section anyways. Im not saying it shouldnt be discussed. It should. Im just not justifying it. Kapish?
  16. Wait, previews can be first appearances? If the story is original, yes. If not, no. The nature of a "preview" almost universally means that it's material intended to be printed elsewhere. I'm pretty sure that the Damage Control preview in Marvel Age Annual #4 is not excerpts from the book, but it's been a while since I read it. I do remember that the Wolverine preview is sort of a recap of what had been happening with the character in X-Men, so it's not exactly a story, although the art is original. A good example of a legit first appearance in a preview is Lazarus. I just read the story in Marvel Age Annual #4. It's a 4 page, original story that predates Damage Control's other appearances. Even at only 4 pages, it's actually a frame story - the first page has a guy from Damage Control approaching the Joe Fixit version of Hulk and handing him a brochure about Damage Control. Pages 2-3 are basically an ad for Damage Control (which Hulk is reading) explaining what the series is. And page 4 is Hulk kicking the guy's butt and tossing him out of the casino. So it is an original story, not an excerpt of a later published issue. It's not much of a first appearance - in terms of these sorts of things, it's not as strong as something like Rat Queens in Image What's Next - but I think it is their first appearance. Erm, we're talking Damage Control, right? Who cares? Even if this show gets picked, and even if it does better than Walking dead (Sorry, I have to be my eccentric self here, bear with me), its still a series about a unit reconstructing demolished areas. How will this ever generate cult following status?? People just get into the habit of "investing" in "optioned" books without even thinking of the book's context. This is a fun series, a brilliant concept and Im glad it got picked. But come on now..
  17. Wait I thought first appearances had to occur within a story? It is a story. http://boards.collectors-society.com/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=6433136 So it's a preview! Nice. No. OK so is it an unpublished story? I'm just not sure why this newsletter qualifies as a first appearance while others do not. I though newsletters can't be first appearances or does the artist/writer have to state that it is within his own newsletter for it to count? Does the newsletter have to be promoted a certain way for it to count as a first? I have read a lot of posts over the years where people claim that collecting newsletter, previews, pamphlets and other non-comic format material is frivolous because they shouldn't be considered first appearances and yet no one is complaining about this company newsletter as a first. I wonder why. I believe this is a little different because NEC acknowledges and promotes the first appearance to be in the newsletter instead of the comic. Not that it should matter to the reader. But according to them, it is We are splitting hairs here, but I think the big difference is this wasn't marketing material for a comic, i.e. buy the Tick comic, here's a taste. The Tick was a feature that regularly appeared in the newsletter and only later got his own series, and this volume marks the beginning of the Tick story. Well if the publisher of the book acknowledges it to be a 1st appearance, what are we arguing?
