  1. Another title that dropped low was civil war. I remember #1 9.8 were 100-150 books. I subbed 2 9.8s when the movie was announced. By the time I saw fit to list them they were 30-40 books already
  2. following up on the sinking titanic https://www.ebay.com/itm/Preacher-2-CGC-9-8-W-Pages-1st-Arseface-Vertigo-Garth-Ennis-Story-Steve-Dillon-/292784627120?nordt=true&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.m43663.l10137
  3. I do believe that that is the case with ALL variant covers that have no particular book significance nor "rarity" attributes (recalls or errors). It's always easy to say "that's a hot cover, so that's the reason why". But there are many many "hot" ratio covers that would never get remotely close to silly high prices. Its always hype. If it wasn't for hype, half the keys out there wouldn't be where they are.
  4. Yup.. still a good book to send in. Just not understanding why seller chose to shill this one as opposed to others. Or what the motive is
  5. whats going on here https://www.ebay.com/itm/Silver-Surfer-v2-1-CGC-9-8-NO-RESERVE-Modern-Age/332850194943?epid=85406241&hash=item4d7f6ae9ff%3Ag%3AcaQAAOSwVE9bzkWz&LH_Auction=1
  6. Well damn if its a 150 book all that long I may have to send my copies in..
  7. DC 52 Week #11 keeping momentum with 9.8s going for 150-200 regularly. Im sure this is related to some movie/TV announcement, but I havent seen anything online about this
  8. the one thing a lot of you forget is inventory. If you have a budget of say, 500$ to grade comics. You go and get 20 9.8s in those 500 spent. Congrats. Now, you list them at a competitive price of 50-100 each as BINS. Assuming these are non key books such as the op's example of the Byrne run. You will be sitting on those books for a very very long time. Months, sometimes over a year. If I had ONLY a budget of 500$ allotted for these books until I sell said inventory to move to the next batch, I'm screwed. If you list them as .99 cent auction you're likely to LOSE on your investment with said books given the cost of investment in grading+pressing. If I had 500$ to spend on random non key 9.8 books I could actually do a lot better by spending the same amount of money AND time bidding on equal books on eBay and GUARANTEEING the grade without the hassle of pressing pre screening. I ALWAYS work with a budget in mind. I expect to spend a third (at most) of my net profit from the previous month
  9. I would love to see how many #1 9.8s were entered into the system from the moment Preacher was optioned (Jan 2014?) till the show hit. Prior to the "news" this was selling anywhere between 200-400, with only a few below that. While its perfectly reasonable to think that the hype made prices soar and now they have calmed down, its also likely that there have been too many 9.8s created while the hype was on, and now there are no homes for those 9.8s anymore
  10. Batman 423 is probably the only book I can think of which went through a major correction with no movie/pumpndump type hype after so many years of almost no attention to it. It was a 100-200 book until a little over a year ago and is now a 5-700 book I would never think even last year it would be compared to a book like IH340 which was a well established key for decades
  11. So I essence you agree with me but just worded it differently
  12. You're looking too deep into it. Again, if you have to get them pressed, this won't be worth sending in. Pre screen or not. Remember, when you get a potential 9.8 rejected, it cuts into your initial investment. As a rule of thumb I press ALL my submissions. Even though I own 2 pressing units, it still costs me time to press them. And I won't do it for any books that I can't flip for at least $100. But that's just me
  13. Outselling it by triple numbers in price and volume. That wasn't the case when the hype was on
  14. You are aware that regular 1st print 9.8 are outselling this 2nd HTF RARE print
  15. consistently... and HTF LOW LOW PRINT RUN TOUGH BLACK COVER I mean, this is a lesson to all those joining our broadcast: A book just doesnt become valuable because of things that are attributed to scarcity. There has to be REAL demand first
  16. I was just going by what I saw on the bay (which isnt saying much I know) I wonder if DC authorized this at all
  17. Speaking of chromium covers etc, has anyone noticed Gambit #1 gold cover close at some ridiculous prices lately? This used to be an average $40 book last year, its now flirting with $200 regularly and over 400 for 9.8
  18. I think its a perfect comparison. Both ASM300 & Spiderman 1 were known books that came out in the late 80/90. The chromium editions came out 10/12 years after they were well established/quite collectible. Tec880 seems to be selling for 50, and as @ygogolak mentioned, its close to what the retailer was asking for cover. Im not suggesting it would fetch 10 times the price in the future, that remains to be seen, mainly depending on demand for the book and future reproduction of said variant. But based on current demand and low print run of 1,000, I can see how it could get to those levels
