  1. Stop with all this eternal pettifogging and lets get back to modern talking
  2. Inspired by the now locked ASM129 thread in CG, I dug out an old Merc cover by Mike Zeck Since that thread is now locked I had NO CHOICE but to feature it on this thread here (even though its not a Modern) Is it a coincidence that Marvel picked Zeck to do covers for Merc starting with issue 6 (over a year since pun #1 mini was published)? the cover for annual 1 is almost a swipe of Punisher #1 A really really really bad swipe
  3. Thank you for the insight In America, Eternals was a pretty obscure, and apparently, judging from previous comments, not a well received title
  4. Actually he’s not spanking. He’s just waving hello to a friend
  5. I wouldn’t wanna guess what he’s doing w the other hand
  6. Beautiful copy... Mine is a VG
  7. Lets see some more sweet sweet books
  8. No free candy without some cherry
  9. Earth X Graphitti Designs Hardcover Limited Edition
  10. in comparison, Colin Nash didn’t make a single appearance since the beginning of this thread
  11. Punisher was definitely a D list character. There was no set hype to get him to where he was only a short while after the mini. You gotta remember, in 1986 the biggest thing that marvel was hyping was The New Universe. I mean... Pun-Who?!? It really was the mini-series that blew him out of the water... those covers.. the dark ultra violent story... the art... u had to live back then to appreciate it Couple that with a very hot climate in the comic book market leading towards 1987 when everything went to second print carrying big big price tags on the first, Punisher experienced a major breakthrough with a movie that came out only a few short years after but even as a young(er) collector back then I didn’t even flinch nor thought for a second to pick up an ASM129. Are u kidding me?? With books like TMNT, Cerebus, Albedo, TDKR/Watchmen LTD hardcovers commanding prices in the hundreds, you would be a damn fool to seek out puni’s first appearance. Everyone was after hot expensive modern titles.
  12. How the fkuc does this list doesn’t have a More Better Key
  13. IBTL and no There wont be a key to open it then
  14. The punisher mini was a huge hit half way through 86. That’s really all it took to push the character to the next level
  15. Very true. In that sense, Punisher would be as iconic a figure in pop/mainstream art as say Death Dealer, essentially a character with no comic book relevancy which became a fantasy art/pop icon among cult followers, bikers, army units etc
  16. Funny as I was about to start a thread earlier today about the importance of Punisher v the importance of Deadpool. I guess that to the younger audience Deadpool is a much more relevant character than punisher but to older folks that doesn’t even make sense. would be interesting to study the market cap of each book (asm 129 vs nm98) and see which one totals higher value. also interesting that asm129 and nm98 had similar parallels in terms of character popularity and value of 1st app (only in different times). It took both books about 14 years to gain equal value and an additional 10 years to become extremely valuable and collectible. Of course asm129 had a head start so it’s financially supposed to outperform nm98, but character recognition suggests that there may be some stark differences among younger audience reception. All in all it would make total sense for a younger fella (one that grew in the 00s) to assume that a character like Punisher and a book like asm129 are astonishing in significance and value
  17. Yes that’s what he’s saying and there are no degrees of key a key describes the importance of a book in relation to to a key element it introduces you can subjectively assume that one book is more important than the other, but it’s not more key than another
  18. Now Warlord- that’s a great comparison. Of course not comparing genre or prices but DC first issue special 8 is just as undervalued as sme15 was but both are undeniably keys and books of great importance
  19. I wouldnt know; I own alot of kirby 70s complete runs/books, Sandman, Omac, New Gods, CA 193-214, almost the complete Kamandi series. Eternals was never on my to read list. Of course whoever bought heavy on those did great with their investment. No doubt about that. Smart actually Just not as something I would consider a Kirby must have
