  1. You won’t regret that decision brother!! TOUGH books especially that 6 as others have stated and man what a copy!!! So darn cool and likely could be the crown jewel of many collections imo!! The Lash Lightning “Handshake of Horror” splash by Jim Mooney is also very cool inside!!
  2. That is freaking AWESOME!!!! thanks for sharing!!
  3. Thanks brother!! The thought crossed my mind!! Can’t seem to find one!! Maybe you could post you beauty so we could see all em all close together!!
  4. So I am calling this the last little purchase of 2017!! I got this off the boards and it came in the mail yesterday. Thanks Dave!! I always thought of it as MLJs version of Captain America Comics #3. To my surprise when I opened up the front cover the published date said Spring of 1941. I took a side by side pic with my Cap #3 (sorry for the glare it was getting late and I was excited!!) I texted the pic to my buddy @Primetime who is a fellow Cap #3 fanatic and he did a little detective work. The Shield Wizard #3 was out March 3rd 1941 and the Captain America Comics #3 was out March 17th 1941 so they are both #3s, both out on the stands within 2 weeks of each other, both sport hero's rocking Red, white and Blue costumes with sidekicks, both have bondage, both have said bondaged characters strapped to Rockets, and both have other worldly type villains with the Red Skull and the Green Monsters!!! Neat stuff I have to admit it really got my Geek dial turned to 11 for some reason haha!! Now all I need to do before my collecting is said and done is upgrade both copies but these will do for now hehe!!
  5. Thanks brother!! Very tempting got my eyes on a few things right now though. Book shouldn’t last too long very COOL and not one you see too often!!!
  6. I have yet to find a tougher book that I cherish more than I do this one!! Sometimes referred to as the coolest book NO ONE has EVER SEEN!!!
  7. Good Golly miss Molly that is AWESOME!! This is what I must have looked like this morning when my son crawled into bed with me at 0400 and asked me if I was ready to get up
  8. You may have something there then my friend. So in the example that I listed maybe it was just the pages on the inside of the slabbed 0.5 that were brittle and since the cover was not and it was married with the raw copy that wasn't brittle and now we have get a complete C-OW copy!! Cool!!
  9. this thread. I thought this scale thing was a great idea!! Talking about brittle books can always be a “delicate” subject!! I often find examples when perusing books that intrigue me and this is no exception. Full disclosure this is Not my book in fact it is being sold by one of my favorite sellers who I have bought from many times and always is coming up with super tough books!! So from the looks of things this book was originally sold as a CGC brittle incomplete with noted chips in the bottom of the case along with a coverless copy... then (and for good reason because it’s a match made in heaven and looks better) married together but now magically has lost its brittle designation altogether? It was my understanding that if just part of the book was brittle it would get a SB designation. We are talking big money on some these books folks and I have heard COUNTLESS times, “I avoid brittle books like the plague” or that brittle books should command a massive discount on a book. What do you do in examples likes this? I am honestly curious as it’s rather inconsistent and this scale with some notes could be beneficial. Cover brittle, pages C-OW? Although in this case the spine in the pic looks more delicate than some of the books I have subbed that came back SB but could just be tears too hard to tell from just a pic...Again not knocking this particular book i may even make a run at it just bringing up issues I think need to be discussed that I am intrigued about... Edited to add: I think the following post from Mr Ludy Luck just made me understand this scenario a bitter as you can see from post after his.
  10. DANG bro!!!!! I was told by a reliable source that the Wonder Comics #1 could have been a fraud listing!! I’m no detective but I couldn’t figure out why not take any of your own pics for a listing of this magnitude instead of just swiping Heritages from a year ago? Then again what I think is a lot of money may not be to others but if you are selling stuff for a deposit on a house as the listing stated I would think that it matters to you. I’m not judging to each is own I just couldn’t help thinking if this was legit wouldn’t you pay a little closer attention to the details like making sure the item is on the correct category?
  11. Hey GA Guru’s and especially Fox Fanatics what are your thoughts on the Wonder Comics #1 that hammered unimpressively tonight on ebay for a mere $31,979?? To be completely honest I didn’t even see the listing until 3 hrs prior to its end as it never populated in my saved searches probably due to the fact that it was listed as a Silver Age book so special thanks to Corey for letting me know so I could watch what I suspected would be fireworks but it came up a little short!! Sad nosedive for such a great historical book which sold on Heritage in May 2014 for $68,712 then again last Nov 2016 $54,970 Now just a year later for under $32K? Possibly just a Savvy buy on the winners behalf because while i don’t swim in this end of the pool this seems like a book that went too cheap imo!! your thoughts?
  12. Ol’ Municipal Stadium!! I have a few memories there myself!! Some of the views in that stadium were obstructed by those big support beams if i recall correctly I was still pretty young when we went there but did go to a several games!! I too was fortunate enough to attend a game in the 97’ series I got the ticket around here somewhere!! Still have my ticket to this game as well!! I am confident we will get one sooner than later brother!!
  13. I got my fingers crossed for you pal!! Some of your books though man are just WOW!! I don’t think you could even upgrade them if you found a time machine to buy them straight off the stands they are so fresh!!! I still pinch and zoom every now and again to admire that Mystery Men #1 it’s pretty mind blowing when you really think about it that a comic book (paper, ink, and maybe a staple or two) from that long ago was kept that nice. I look at the pics from Mr Bedrocks thread for example with all the comics sitting around and all those conventions where stuff is like pinned on the walls others not bagged or boarded. I’m not saying it was or wasnt a better more purer time just that how it is neat that examples survived albeit rarely in high grade. I am a lower grade collector by choice but it doesn’t mean i am not SUPER geeked out by these gorgeous books heck I remember going to shops and hotel conference room conventions as early as the late 80s and buying silver age stuff as a youngster that wasn’t as nice as that book (I shouldn’t say I bought them my awesome folks did that for me). For many years this stuff just wasn’t, “collected” and handled the way it is now so to see a book that nice is just remarkable and flat out cool. Ok too much typing again gotta hit submit so i can go back to oogling over that sig line and get to bed ?
  14. I don’t quote books as much as I used to anymore with the like feature being enabled but WOW!! I had to pick my jaw up off the floor when I saw this one!! So straight and the colors are straight poppin’!!!
  15. Man these are AWESOME!!! Thanks for burning up all my likes for the day BP!!!!!
  16. Great Thread Peter Happy Holidays to you brother!! Lets see how to answer this question. Well for the past few years I have made a list a books that I REALLY want (top tier) then made a secondary list of stuff that I would make a run at if it came up as well. Thing is I try to keep a certain monetary value into my collection as to not exceed it too much so I usually sell something if I buy a few things and my collection has seemingly become full of almost all, "keeper" books for me and I have sold several things that I wish I hadn't but at the same time have no regrets as they were all in pursuit of buying something else at the time or I just couldn't say no to the ROI. All that being said everything I REALLY want seems to have exploded in value ever since I started collecting it. GA in general seems to have taken a nice spike in the upwards direction at least in regards to keys, perceived classic covers, and stuff on the rarer side of things (all things I chase after) This year I think I will take a good hard look at the Gerber guide again (I have looked at it MANY times) and try to pin down some stuff that I like but isn't quite so HOT but still cool (pun intended). Start exploring some other publishers until this current cycle cools off. I hear everyone say that it go in cycles and I will admit that I haven't been around long enough to see the ebbs and flows just this enormous climb in the stuff that I like but I do like to listen and gather information. This seems to be a sellers market if I am not mistaken. Just look at the selling forum for example. As soon as a GA book goes up for sale it is usually sold within a minute of being posted almost to the point that I don't really even look there anymore to buy stuff more just to see what stuff is selling for as I know I won't be fast enough to catch anything I really want as I can't sit here and hit refresh I just don't have the time at this stage in my life. A couple things I truly would like to add to my collection are a Larson book and a book from the collection of our very own JBerk. As a few of you know I stuck all my eggs into one basket (I kept it pretty quiet) when Berks books came up and ended up the underbidder so I would really enjoy adding a book of his to my collection this year. I am still having a Fantastic time and I am in this for the long play and fun of it all as it truly is my one of my highest joys. I just enjoy these old funny books so darn much. If I can't find anything I really want and is still underappreciated I am sure I will simply revert back to my old method for the year haha!! Either way I will have a great time participating, watching, learning, and talking to folks who share the same passion for this great hobby of ours!! As always Happy Holidays to everyone and Happy Hunting in the New year!!! See you out there, Gino
