  1. Update: 10 book modern reg track 6/21: Received and Verified 7/27: Scheduled for Grading 7/28: Graded 8/1: Grading/Quality Control 8/2: Shipped/Safe My 2 "sure thing" 9.8 or betters came back 9.8 as predicted. The 9.6/9.8 toss ups ended up: 2 @ 9.8, 3 @ 9.6. One book hit 9.0 as predicted. Grading is still tight, but seems especially accurate to me in the 9.0 - 9.4 range IMO over the last few months. Seeing more 9.6s than ever, but I've also been submitting more older modern books than I was in my earlier submissions.
  2. I found this today while searched for something else. Pretty cool comparison with the height info based on the source material.. but the depictions are based on the MCU representations that everyone recognizes.
  3. Update: 10 book modern reg track 6/21: Received and Verified 7/27: Scheduled for Grading 7/28: Graded 8/1: Grading/Quality Control
  4. Update: 10 book modern reg track 6/21: Received and Verified 7/27: Scheduled for Grading 7/28: Graded Seems like TAT is pretty accurate so far to what was estimated when I submitted back in June. I had a feeling I might see movement this week or next, and sure enough!
  5. I've been at verified since 6/21 on a similarly sized sub. I'm sure TATs took an abrupt hit when con season started and the listed TATs were not immediately updated.
  6. Oh man.. here I was thinking I saved the day and now I see it's a ressurected thread from 7 years ago. Oh Friday, fooled me again.
  7. About 10 yrs ago I moved into a place that had fleas from previous tenants. The landlord replaced the carpet... but was not smart or knowledged enough to not also spray or remove all the stages of fleas before putting the new carpet in. After a long battle the only thing that helped and to my knowledge got rid of them was putting down tons of Morton salt and vacuuming a week after putting salt down. Do this 4 times. Then throw your vacuum away. See this video: https://youtu.be/PlwRzEzWxFw I moved out after living there for about 6 months but I believe they were completely gone. Didn't see a flea again and I lived there for months after.
  8. I sold a rare Nerf gun to a buyer in Singapore. There is apparently a good collector base for Nerf there - not sure how large, but they are open the people spending bigger money on the hard to find stuff. A like new Speak N Spell went to a TV network Exec. in Israel. When this happened (not sure if still the case) paypal wasn't available there so he paid via Western Union transfer. I used to accept Money Orders all the time WAY back in the day before I got into comics, but that's the only time I've ever accepted WU. Awesome thread, BTW.
  9. I've known essentially what the term means for a very long time.. but here it is, literally, according to google translate. Seems like every time I get on the forums anymore I run into the term over and over in new threads. The more you know.
  10. Fan Verification has just been reopened and you can buy tickets again right now!
  11. Pondering today about just going with the fiancé to get some food nearby and people watching all the cosplayers. OHH now there's 4 comic vendors (3 plus the club booth). Here's the floor plan: http://www.expocad.com/host/fx/wizardworld/17dm/floorplan.pdf
  12. Not even considering going and it's in town for me too. A one day ticket for $40 plus $120 for a Stan photo and that's about all the draw. I'll keep my $160 and the other memories of Stan. Only 1 comic vendor, show floor plan is bare. Wizard is grasping for a way to make money off this show and it's not going to happen.
  13. My con report: I was at the show Friday and Saturday, digging through boxes most of the time. Picked up a few low/mid grade goodies from Leroy - great to see and work with as always. Indeed, the CGC line was nuts the entire time. I'm glad I decided not to sub anything this year. Other than what I bought from Leroy I wouldn't say I found any especially "good deals". Lots of decent $2 and $5 books, but not much else. Missed the Miller and Lee panel but caught the Miller and Azzarello one. Apparently they either forgot a panel moderator or no one told Azzarello that it would be his job, so after some awkwardness it just turned into an hour long Q/A session. Miller said he has the next two Sin City series planned out, and both are set in the past. Also caught the Michael Cudlitz's panel (Abraham from Walking Dead) - pretty entertaining. Spoke with Brian Stelfreeze and Kristen Gudsnuk in Artist Alley briefly. Both very kind and cool to chat with. Dinners consisted of: Friends Sushi, Taco Joint, and Ramen San. Enjoyed ice cream twice at the show floor with no regrets.
  14. Truth about both. I'm just feeling the sting of my first rocky submission and trying to make sense of it. Don't mind me I was mainly just curious if anyone's had a submission with that grader's note and hit anything lower than a 9.4. Thanks for all your insights as well.
  15. I'm with you, Tony - I was hesitant to even post my question as to not appear to criticize CGC.. but the more knowledge we can all share with each other on what issues may result in a given grade the better IMO. I'm not going so far as to say I'm "objecting" to the grade - just trying to gain perspective into what can cause such varied multiple issues to yield the same result. Grading consistency is my main concern as well. I too had never seen this in notes until recently. The top book I felt had a good shot at 9.8 but I apparently missed a lot on it. it was a late 90's book. The middle one was late 70s. The bottom was from 2012. It's interesting to also see how much the same defect to various ages of "modern" books can affect the impact on overall grade.. assuming this is what happened in my case.
  16. The following screenshots are all taken from the same recent submission of all modern books. It seems weird that a book can have this in the notes AND light spine stress, AND light staple rusting and still get the same grade as one with just very light bends... or a higher grade along with light spine stress lines. Has anyone received a grade less than 9.4 with "very light bends to cover" in the graders notes?
  17. Even at that pace we are talking an easy 250k to 300k slabs per year.
  18. ..."Because, as well as offering 25c issues of The Walking Dead, Outcast, Invincible and Saga – they are going to charge $125 for 1 25th Anniversary Blind Box in May.." I'm guessing it may be similar to how they did the black friday boxes?? Where you order them directly from Skybound? Just an educated guess though.
  19. 15 book modern slow Verified Tues 2/14 Shipped/Safe Thurs 2/23 !!! Some hammered a little and some a bit higher than expected. Some graders notes included even on 9.6s. Nothing to complain about too much and I respect their grading. Win some and lose some. Here are CGC's results alongside my estimates, just for fun. Graded Anticipated Grade 9.4 9.8 9.6 9.2 9.4 9.8 9.6 9.8 9.8 9.6 9.4 9.4 / 9.6 9.6 9.6 / 9.8 9.6 9.6 / 9.8 9.8 9.6 / 9.8 9.8 9.8 9.8 9.8 9.8 9.8 9.8 9.8 9.8 9.8 9.8 9.8
  20. That's a random $ amount... probably one of those antique malls where everything is priced the same high price for what it is?? Then you find the one book that's more than worth it! Nice find!
  21. I think they just call this the "sleeping bag variant" . Not sure where it came from.
  22. I'm glad someone thought to ask this question and that old thread was shared. I have an ASM 361 that has a "gripper hole" and it sounds like CGC doesn't knock much/any of the grade for them... and that there are many like mine out there. Will probably submit it now. Thanks!
  23. A friend of mine runs a podcast called "The Doomcast". He just celebrated his 50th episode and it's a good one that boardies might enjoy. Follow The Doomcast on Facebook if you want to see his other 49 episodes and counting. His "mailbag" videos are generally great as well. Mods: if this is considered "advertising", feel free to move it. He's not making any money off of it to my best knowledge and I don't think facebook has video monetization. Purely satire for fun.
