  1. Anyone collect Kre-O sets or would those be like the PGX of Legos? I picked up a Starscream set at Wal-Mart on clearance for $10 and was actually pleasantly surprised at how nice it looked when put together. I thought their G.I. Joe stuff looked pretty cool too.

I only have one set which is the Cobra Terror Drome. Me and my son built it early this week on Presidents day. It was a fun build but the quality of the bricks are not great. I really wished Hasbro would have given the license for G.I. Joe's to Lego since I'm a huge fan of that property.

That Terror Drome set was what I was looking at; that and the ninja dojo because it includes the HISS plus the Baroness and Destro figures.

I have a couple, but compared to Lego, make mine Lego.

I figured that would probably be the consensus here; just wasn't sure if I would get a beatdown just for mentioning Kre-O :)

I loved Lego as a kid and still play with my nieces and nephews with their sets and my wife's old Legos (I unfortunately sold all of my castle collection years ago). I will say the one thing I didn't like about the Kre-O set was that the pieces didn't stay together very well. My wife knocked over Starscream once and it basically shattered apart. I remember having teeth marks in some of my old Legos from trying to pry some of those suckers apart!

  3. Received a substantial amount of money in Gift Cards today with more than half of the amount being a Best Buy card. I sold off all of my old 360 games except for Lego Marvel last week as I had plans to upgrade around April.

April came early. Figured it would be better to grab something sooner than later before the deals and bundles dried up. The last time I bought a gaming console was in 2005 with the 360. It lasted me ten years. Let's see how long the X-Box One lasts.

Why 360? It came down to a few major things.

1 - The PS4 controller felt foreign to me.

2 - Both of my cousins and one of my friends are on X-Box One

    3 - I already have an X-Box Live Account

4 - Did I mention that the PS4 controller felt foreign to me?

So... X-Box One Assassin's Creed Bundle and I threw in a Rechargeable Battery Pack.

Game suggestions? The Assassin's Creed games should keep me plenty busy in the rare time I have to play. I want to pick up Lego Marvel as I was in the middle of that, and that game is really fun.

I hear good things about Destiny but what else?

    I am a casual gamer.

BTW... I am up setting this whole thing up before the world crashes in about 16 hours as people start unwrapping and setting up their own consoles... As Microsoft is already reporting heavy traffic, this may have been a wise decision not to leave this for tomorrow.

I just finished up Sunset Overdrive. I'm a pretty casual gamer and I really enjoyed it. It's open world and has small missions you do similar to a GTA game; the difference is it's a silly game that never takes itself seriously. I wouldn't say it's necessarily easy but I never got stuck at any point so the game flows pretty good. Not a "must buy" game but I recommend it.

  4. Nintendo really needs to step up their A game.

Nintendo is at the very top right now when it comes to games. Super Smash Bros., Bayonetta 2, Mario Kart 8, DK Tropical Freeze, Hyrule Warriors, all this year, have all been praised. I actually just bought a Wii U because of the quality of games that have come out. Right now is the perfect time to buy a Wii U. In my opinion, at least at this very moment, Xbox and Playstation can't touch Nintendo when it comes to exclusive games

Funny you mention that... I went out to Toys R Us just to get an overall view of what is out there. The Nintendo Wii U was tempting.

I think people avoided the Wii U at release because it was "underpowered" and didn't feel "next gen" enough. Problem is... I think that's true for all 3 systems (WiiU, XBone, PS4.) As such, Wii U might end up having the best overall catalog. Not gonna lie- I've been tempted to get one too. But right now my PC is acting as my high-end rig and an NES is handling my retro needs.

    So we'll see...

I agree with you on all 3 systems not feeling "next gen". It just feels that the last gen systems had plenty of life in it left, I didn't think we'd need new hardware, at least just yet. The biggest difference between generations was definitely last gen with the 360 and the PS3. People avoided the Wii U at release because of how terrible the marketing was. People thought the Wii U was just the tablet controller and thought the system were the exact same. They could've done a little better doing that, but I think right now, most people in the gaming community at least, believe that the Wii U is the better console because of it's library of games. However, I would never get a Nintendo system as my primary console.

I got a Wii U a couple months after launch and ended up selling it a few months ago because of the lack of games. Besides Mario, there really wasn't anything out there to play. I'd say their next biggest franchises after Mario are Zelda and Metroid and they still have not released those games.

  5. Hadn't played the 360 for a couple months so last week I went to turn it on and got the RROD. Opened it up and found a couple bulging capacitors. Figured that was a sign to grab a XBONE so I picked up the Microsoft store deal with the Assassins Creed bundle and got Sunset Overdrive for free. It's showing delivery tomorrow :)

  6. I haven't read this whole thread but has anyone mentioned the old and new version of the Overstreet Grading Guide? I find myself referring to them both quite often.

No, but I would suggest to Chip to try and find a copy of the 2nd Edition and read it cover-to-cover.

I agree completely. For me the 2nd Edition is the go to book. I have tried and so far failed to figure out how to calibrate OSGG grades to CGC grades. No grading system can be completely consistent or coherent, but at least with the OSGG you have something to read and to study, and that is a big help if you are trying to improve. 2c

It seems people recommend the 2nd Edition. Why is that better than the 3rd edition?

Specifically, its better than the 1st edition, which I am looking at again now. The 1st edition is based on the 100 point grading system, and each major grade tier, g to vg to f up to vf had a "defect section" which I did not find as a learner very helpful. The whole 1st edition is still to me imponderable.

The 2nd edition is on the 10 point system, each grade has clearer illustrations of defects, better examples of grades, and a more accessible table for each grade tier of what is or is not consistent with the grade.

I have not seen the third edition. (shrug)

That makes sense. I've seen a few different people recently recommend grabbing the 2nd edition so I was just curious. I don't have any of them so I think I'm gonna grab the 2015 edition when it comes out in December!

  8. I'm hyped for a next gen system now. I don't want to buy any PS3 games. All the money saved is going to the PS4 or XBOX1. Haven't decided which yet, that choice will be made when I have $500 to blow.

By then plenty of reviews should be in on the games I'm eying anyway. But right now I'm liking Silent Hill, even though the prior installments I've played had major gameplay issues despite the great graphics.

Also liking that Tom Clancy game with the hostages. And the new Call Of Duty.

    That Silent Hill trailer is.....intense.

This guy was cracking me up! - NSFW language

  9. I tried offering something other than Spiderman books but it took offering up a couple to get off the hot seat.

Offers were top notch. I would've grabbed the Preacher TPBs but didn't want to be that guy who took a day to post the new offer.

Same here. And if I had seen the ASM 18 in time I probably would have jumped on it anyway and taken the beating for it

  10. RAK TIME!

I really wanted to like this series but just never got into it. I know a lot of people do like it though so hopefully someone here can pick it up and check it out.

Free shipping in the US. $10 toward shipping any where else.

  11. I've never heard of a Woodgod before. If only there was a website you could type questions into and get answers back.

Great Gift of Knowledge (otherwise known as my good friend Google)

That was fast, lets try this again.

If only there were beautiful women with giant boobs knocking on my front door right now!

    ftfy

    Na, I'm bags of money.

Boobs can get you through times of no money better than money can get you through times of no boobs

Not quite, with bags of money you can buy plenty of boobs!

edit: dang it, other tech beat me to it...

  12. Come on - don't sound ignorant. A majority of the people involved with this thread have already taken something this month and I'm guessing the fence sitters are very specific as to what they are looking for their collection. Definetely a big offer.

I'm not ignorant. A great offer can be sold and that money could be used to purchase exactly what someone is looking for. There's more than one way to go out acquiring something in your wheelhouse as far as this thread is concerned.

    Peace,

And as soon as the board detectives found you doing that you'd be ripped a new one...
