  1. I think the thread might have died. :sorry:

If someone wants to save it, :foryou:

Otherwise, I can get rid of the first post and we can just rename the thread PIF2. (shrug)

Hell, I'd just do away with the "regular"offer since that's what's causing all the :slapfight: and leave it open to the random offers.

  2. My interest in this thread is decreasing on a daily basis.

When the apocalypse occurs I know we are all *spoon*ed - if people get this bent out of shape over funny books we are all definitely killing each other over food and water.

The Doomsday preppers and gun freaks may not be so :screwy: after all...

  3. " Dear God of the Comic Universe -

I want to start a thread where people can come together in harmony and share the mutual love and interest of the hobby by giving and taken comic related items for the betterment of all and mankind. Do you think it will work?

    Love,

    Harvey "

    lol

But was HAS worked pretty well so far are all the awesome side offers. No rules or worry about value, just people posting up cool stuff with no expectations of getting anything back. It seems to me THAT has made this the Giving Tree.

  4. There was great mojo last night.

And also, chatter is important otherwise the thread is just a boring trading thread. The interaction is what makes it fun. So lets keep the interaction positive.

What's funny is that if we did away with the "official" offers and back and forth of the rules regarding the official offers you'd be left with nothing but positive interactions in here :)

  5. Gentlemen and Ladies, I really would like to participate in this thread but there are dozens of pages of vigorous discussion making it virtually impossible for anyone to participate outside of those who clearly can sit here and read/post all day long.

For the love of ::insert personal preferred deity here::, can we please stop with all the chit-chat, butt-hurt, and superfluous commentary (applause that an offer is great is just as derailing as negative statements)?

Honestly, can we just get to the point where there are only offers posted and people take them (or not) and then post their own?

Current offer is always linked in the 2nd post of the thread - right under the rules people need to read before participating anyway.

I got that, I read the first 35 pages of the thread before I skipped to the end.

If people can't see how ridiculous the thread is due to the "chatter" and commentary about the "chatter" then it probably won't matter to them that very few people will participate because of the "chatter."

Up until just recently the chatter has been pretty positive. Since this thread isn't stickied you do need some activity outside of the offers to keep the thread up to the top of the first page for people to see. So I guess it's either idle chatter or constant :bump:

  7. It also doesn't really encourage the offeror from at least trying to switch it up and offer options, right?

I guess some get it and some don't.

Not to harp on, but what is there to get? Chip is right - if someone new comes into the thread and likes the books on offer, they will take them regardless of whether or not someone else has said "If these are still here in X hours, I'm claiming them".

You decided in making your rules that 72 hours was an acceptable period of time for an offer to stand. You've said twice now that it's not your intention to get loads of offers going per day. So I don't see what the issue is. The above suggests you think that what happened with the Ducky/Chip offer was a bad thing, and honestly I don't see that it was.

As someone else mentioned, the repeated sniping at and belittling of other people's offerings, and pressure to change them before the rules say they have to is far more likely to put off potential new members.

I have to agree here. It started out great, but it's seemed to go from the Giving Tree to the Give me what I want NOW Tree. I like seeing multiple offers go every day just as much as everyone else but this thread needs to relax a little...

  8. Just want to throw this out about Ducky:

I took a PIF offer from him for a run of ASM issues I needed for my collection. I mentioned in a PM that I was filling a gap in my collection with those issues and he offered to send me extra books in the range of his initial offering. I ended up with 5 extra books on top of what was offered in his PIF. I thought that was an awesome gesture and fit in very well with the "spirit" of the PIF thread...

  9. Yep more giving than taking! I just got 4 requests for orig art so throw that in your pipe and smoke it

I was gonna hit you up but I knew you'd probably be flooded with requests!

    Still room for more

I'm offering free sketches or $10 for mailing tube/postage if ya want pages

    PM coming (thumbs u

  10. I already have both compendiums but at the rate I lend them out I say they're good to have around as spares for gifting/lending even if you own a set.

I've never read Walking Dead either.

    (Or Planetary)

Wow, you can not go wrong with Walking Dead Compediums 1 and 2. That is like 96 issues of pure fun.

The Walking Dead is the series that got me back into comics and started my modern buying. I've lent my compendiums out 5 or 6 times now and they always get returned in about a week or less because they've been read through already! I've only read a couple issues of Planetary but I did really enjoy those issues and it's on my list to put a run together some time.

  11. I STILL am ??? why he doesn't just take the high road and write Jawn and see if there is anything he can do to make Jawn satisfied and get off of the list.

Instead of deflection, why not start there? (shrug)

    \

The more he posts, the more you can see why this incident took place. That is why I think past actions and attitudes are relevant because it shows a pattern.

OK, so without going right to "the thread was still open & he bought it" - explain how jawn's actions make him the blameless victim in this.

Keep in mind, PM content however vague, his comprehension of PM content from his early May posts (price & holding the book), his (IMHO) mistaken impression that another $10 was all the seller wanted out of the book.

If you still find him innocent, then explain why he said he kept checking to see if the thread was open before he posted the "takeit" - who does that if they don't feel they are putting one over on someone & taking advantage of the situation.

    (shrug)

The high road is still possible for the seller but the buyer's actions made it a pretty steep climb.

    2c

Where is that post that said he kept checking the thread to see if it was closed? I remember reading it, but I can't find it anywhere. Anybody know what page?

It was in the Probation thread on 5/2. It's my page #483 but I think I have my posts/page set to max.

"That's true, but how am I supposed to guess that? We did a little back and forth. He said he might hold onto it to take pictures, but an hour later the thread is still open so I make a solid offer. Thread still open, he thinks it might be too low, thinks he is going to hold onto it. Hours later thread still open I reply in PM and on the public thread that I will take it for the full price he was asking. If he wanted to keep it why keep the thread open? Maybe it was an oversight I don't know and really don't care at this point. He's not selling me the book. I need to work on some trades, and be happy with the one thing that worked out this week my freshly opened Doom Patrol #99."

*dang baba beat me to it by 4 seconds :)

  12. Ok, "bad guys" list aside - the deal didn't go down so well, right? He came across looking like an or at LEAST someone you might not want to do business with in the future. I mean, even if he felt he wasn't in the wrong and shouldn't be on the list - it still appeared to most that even IF he didn't deserve to be on the Probation List, he could have still handled the situation better. So why is his pride or self-validation more important than his reputation? (shrug)

:screwy: this board is full of people like that

Exactly! And not just on these boards but in general. A lot of people are bull headed and won't admit they are wrong; even the best of us can be guilty of it.

  13. I STILL am ??? why he doesn't just take the high road and write Jawn and see if there is anything he can do to make Jawn satisfied and get off of the list.

Instead of deflection, why not start there? (shrug)

I don't want to speak for him, but quite honestly, if I truly felt I was right on a subject and had people adding me to a "bad guys" list for something I feel wasn't deserved I'd probably be telling people to kick rocks too. And he is FAR from the only person on these boards that would take that stance.

  14. You guys do realize there were several pages of discussion on the matter before he was added, right? :P

And who decides who is on the PL and who is not?

Don't know either of the guys involved and don't think I've done business with either of them. However, the buyer was told in PM by the seller that he was holding on to the book. A book that was in a sales thread that hadn't had any activity in about 8 days. The buyer then pulled the douch move of posting a take it in the thread to force the sale. Regardless of what type of a person the seller is, he shouldn't be in the PL for this one.

I'm with Joe, this makes the PL a joke.

No he was not told that. Read the PM. Ocean said things like - I think I'll hold onto it - or - I might just hold onto it.

But which one of these makes more sense?

Think I'm just going to hold on to it Thanks tho = Seller is holding onto the book

    or

Think I'm just going to hold on to it Thanks tho = The book is still for sale

  15. Communication breakdown - very common around here.

While this isn't "no", if the response was "Think I'm just going to hold on to it Thanks tho"; I would take that as not for sale anymore and just move on. But the way I interpret it, you interpret it, and the seller interpret it could all be different. It's an unfortunate incident but I don't know if it's probation worthy. I would just block the guy and move on myself but that's up to you (thumbs u
