Your comment read as an insult though it may not have been your intention. I look at a like this. A single $5 profit is no big deal but do it a 100 times a month, you have $500. Do that 12 times a year, $6000. Do that another 4 years and you have enough to pay cash for a nice car.
I give anyone credit if they are making $6000 a year off moderns, heck yeah that would be nice. I just see an eerily similarity between this new breed of speculation compared to the dark days of the 90's. Of course the print runs are way different, but the buy every book in multiples regardless of content is in place.
I collect almost exclusively moderns because A) I cant afford the nice GA/SA keys, and B) it's what I was growing up with. I understand your "concern" for the market trends as by comparison to those from the 90's. However, to say that every book is boing bought out at super high print runs is over exaggeration. My LCS has a ton of books left over from various titles each week. I believe it's one of the reasons the large publishers started the buyback program where retailers can resell the books to the publishers at minimum loss.
Speculation in comics is just like speculation in anything. that is, Speculation.
I'm growing up in a generation where there won't be an Action comics #1, or Amazing Fantasy #15. Print runs are higher, comic supplies are made to boost longevity, and things like grading exist. (And yes I know there is a NEW 52 Action comics for all you smart azzes out there.) That being said, we will never see the high thousands, in some cases million dollar highs the GA/SA have hit.
I'm not going to call you a troll or say anything mean, but always be aware that when you speak/type, you are submitting your comments to mass .....wait for it...
...Speculation.
Sincerely,
Gunnz

I have a little over 600, only about 20 graded books. I'm a lot younger than a lot of you guys though (29). It blows my mind when I read some of the numbers posted here. Your spouses must have a ton of patience. Mine would murder me, and use my books to clean up the blood.
Which really is the saddest part...
Sincerely,

I like meeting new ppl, especially through comics. I live in a really small town and the closest CBS is about an hour away so I have no one to talk shop with.
Anyone into collecting CGCs gimme a shout, advice is always welcome and appreciated!

Hello Gunz and RCheli, always nice to meet fellow new board members.
So I'm Ray, I signed up a few years ago and haven't posted with that much frequency until recently when I really got back into collecting after returning to the states from contracting overseas (finally some proper comic book stores!)
I'm from Austin, Texas and I'm particular towards Marvel and Image comics, and focus on collecting Signature Series.
I just moved to Tampa, FL and I'm looking forward to going to my first comic con in March - MegaCon in Orlando!
I've met quite a few helpful and kind people on here, and I love this site!
Hey Ray, I have always wanted to go to Texas. Smoking hot cheerleaders!!!!
The CGC books I collect are mostly SS and I have a few that are graded and I'm hoping to get a couple signed and regraded at fan expo this year (I'm from Canada)
Do you collect any ongoings? I'm a marvel fan myself but I've always been a superman fan. The unchained series is really good so far. What are your best finds? Fav books?

Hey, I've actually been on the boards for a few months but this thread didn't exist so its nice to officially say hi!
So, my impression of the Boards so far is that comic book folks are some of the nicest ppl you can find! Of course there are exceptions.
I've learned a lot about graded books, original art, what people collect, trends and a bunch of other stuff.
I think my favorite part is seeing what other ppl collect and the really cool golden age books that are still floating around. I can honestly say I don't have the knowledge or money to get into buying golden age keys so I stick to variants, ltd editions, HTF books and I collect a Couple ongoings (superman unchained, cap amer.) Oh, and hunting for books missing from collections!
Anyway iI'm glad I found this site and I'm looking forward to meeting many like minded ppl to learn from.

Thanks for the response.
I'm collecting for myself, not for resale, but it's good to know i'm not paying extra for something.
What do you guys collect, and how many of you collect as an investment?

Ok, so i'm back with another question!
I've come across RRP copies of books. From what i've found RRP stands for Retailer Roundtable Program. I've found that most of these books are variant covers and are exactly the same book except that they may not have the advertisements in them. So if these copies are limited to the number of retailers that attend these round table sessions, do they have any value, or are they insignificant?
I'm still trying to wrap my head around the value system of modern books. Just because something is limited doesn't make it valuable.
Just trying to make informed purchases.

That's exactly what I'm looking for! I was worried I was overpaying for books.
Thank you for your reply, I really appreciate it!

Hey, I'm new here and I was wondering if anyone had any tips on getting into cgc book collecting. I followed a lot of comics a few years ago but currently I only following 2 titles. I want to get into the cgc stuff for personal interests rather than investment and right now the only place I know to find cgc books is ebay. Currently I only own 3 CGC books and I'm wondering how people decide how much is too much to spend on a modern title. To give you an example, I'm currently bidding on a copy of superman unchained #1, 1:300 BW variant signed by 3 of the people involved. This book is graded 9.8 and the current bids are climbing pretty quick.
Constructive criticism is greatly appreciated!
Moderns that are heating up on ebay!

I didn't mean to say there isn't the possibility of books reaching those heights, I'm still unsure of whats going happen to TWD #1 when the show ends. Will popularity/demand die down? I dunno. I'm just a guy with a list of wants and a will to do anything to get them... anything.... like... anything...
Anyway, I'm hoping that eventually the books im spending more money on for grading etc. will at least pay for themselves in the future, but my main point in that whole rant was, buddy who posted his 2 cents needs to be more considerate of his audience.
Also, " I am finding a ton of SA and BA common books in lower to mid grades from collection purchases that do not move at 50% of guide.".....I wanna shop where you shop...
