  1. FWIW, I think the "average person" knowing about an artist or not has no real bearing on actual value. There are hundreds of fine artists that the average person has never heard of who have works that have sold for many millions. The average person has no idea who Vermeer, Newman, Girardet, Canalleto, Mucha, and many others are. But their work is still worth vast sums of money. It's those that are knowledgable about the art form that recognize and assess the importance and value of a given work of art. For original comic art, a few of those people are posting in this thread. The average person isn't the one spending vast sums of money on art.
  2. Isn't Frazetta's Egyptian Queen for Eerie 23 the current big boy? Granted it's a painting but it was for a cover (albeit a comic magazine cover). https://www.finebooksmagazine.com/news/frazettas-egyptian-queen-sets-54-million-world-record-heritage-auctions
  3. Hey Makmorn! That looks like one of his famous studies for this cover from the Ace ERB series (I'm sure you already know this, sharing for others).
  4. Excellent grab, wombat! The prices people are asking for that catalog are shocking given how recent it is. Wish I had one!
  5. Yep. It's beginning to damage my enjoyment of the boards.
  6. I was just going to post that there are an enormous number of Easter eggs throughout the series.
  7. The city is on fire and half the population have become refugees. Also, there are roving gangs moving from house to house taking anything (and anyone) they want. It's arguably the most dangerous place on the planet. Don't believe the hype. When certain national news networks were claiming that half of my hometown was on fire, it was a ridiculous exaggeration. Probably gets people worked up and keeps them coming back for more, but it doesn't have much of a connection to reality. And it's easy to sell people on stuff when they already want to believe it.
  8. Awesome book, Jim! Somebody should grab it, hard to find really nice copies of the early Frazetta covers.
  9. And that's all. Feel free to pm with any questions or offers. Thanks for looking!
  10. X-men 141, 9.0, $210, Arguably the classic cover of the Byrne run, this is part one of Days of Future Past, a storyline that was shocking in it's implication for the future of humanity. The movie didn't even come close to being as good as the comics. This copy is very nice and clean, looks new and is well centered. Sold to atomized
  11. X-men 140, 9.2, $50, Part 2 of the Wolverine storyline and his rematch with Wendigo. A classic cover, this copy has excellent gloss and freshness in hand. In previous issues of the Hulk, Wendigo was a weird critter that was strong and fierce. Byrne and Claremont turned Wendigo into a monster that was vicious and terrifying.
  12. X-men 138, 9.0, $50, After the events of 137, John Byrne takes us on a trip through the history of the X-men as Cyclops decides to leave the team. A nice solid copy with excellent color and gloss. Sold to atomized
  13. X-men 137, 9.2, $90, The epic conclusion to the Phoenix story line, 3 years in the making. The artwork and story are truly wonderful, if not controversial. When I ran a comic book store in the early 90s, there were more arguments and debates about the end of this issue than anything else in comics. Rumors abounded but in the end, what was done was done. This is a pretty copy with only a few very minor issues. Perfectly centered and nice, tight, and squared. Sold to atomized
  14. X-men 133, Copy B, Direct Edition, 9.0, $190, A very sweet copy of this classic with excellent gloss and luster. Sold to atomized
  15. X-men 133A, Newsstand Copy, 8.0, $140, Arguably, the greatest cover of the run, it showcases Wolverine alone, making short work of the Hellfire Mercenaries. This was the first time we saw Wolverine on his own and it was not disappointing. Great colors and gloss on this copy.
  16. X-men 132, Copy B, Direct Edition, 9.0, $60, another great copy with excellent gloss and color. Miswraps are basically the norm for this book.
  17. X-men 132, Copy A, Newsstand Copy, 9.4, $130, Just a super clean and nice tight copy of this excellent book that introduced us to another group of mutants- the Hellfire Club. Yes, they had been shown before in previous issues, but here is where we find out what they can do. An amazing battle that my friends and I were in awe of after reading. As the cover suggests, it doesn't end well for the X-men. Sold to atomized
