  1. Eerie 54, VF+ 8.5, Another very cool Sanjulian cover with a tough black border.  These issues in the 50s are a lull in the run for availability (perhaps due to poor sales) and are exceptionally tough in high grade due to the black covers.  This copy comes from the "Plus Tax" collection (although it doesn't have the stamp) that I purchased years ago, all of which were very clean and fresh.  $50  Sold to JustJimN

  2. Eerie 55, VF+ 8.5, Another tough black cover, very difficult in high grade.  This copy comes from another collection that was very pretty, of which I only snagged a few dozen issues.  My personal copy is only slightly better than this.  Who doesn't love Ken Kelly for the cover art?  $50  Sold to JustJimN

Mail call today contained the second Cardwell Higgins covered True Crime Mag I found. Amazing Detective Cases, November 1942. I could just stare at this cover all day. It has everything -  great composition, bright colors, bondage, nylons & headlights. I guess the only thing lacking might be a devil or a gorilla 9_9<3 but seriously, this is the goods.

That's a great book, SA!  :applause:

For my nostalgia-driven-dollars....I'll take Trampier, Otus, Easley, Willingham, Roslof and Dee all day long.

Jeff Dee's work is my favorite of the bunch.  The linework was just more refined, reminded me of Neal Adams and John Byrne in comics at the time.  The story about what happened to all his original art drives me crazy.  Kind of wish I'd participated in his recreations on kickstarter a few years back.

The trouble for me was that his recreations had lost something from the originals.  As an artist, I've experienced the same phenomena.  It's ridiculously difficult to draw something exactly the same way twice, even if it's minutes apart, let alone years.  It changes each time you draw it- usually, not for the better.  There's often something special that the original idea had that is lost in successive iterations.

Looks amazing… and it better be if Bethesda wants me to ever forgive them for still not giving us a follow up to Skyrim.

I completely agree.  They say they're going to go full steam on the next Elder Scrolls after this release but 11 years is a very long time between games.

In penance for my shame in not posting any Vampi's since August :whatthe: I just rewound the thread and hit the button on all of your excellent pickups.

I've spent a lot of dough since then on portions of a high grade vintage paperback collection the likes of which I might not see again so had to put the mags on the back burner but just got in a nice group of 30 or so Vampi's that were quite undergraded and filled in a bunch of holes in the #60-80's slots. :headbang:  I'm only missing 15 of the first 80 now and a couple of dozen for the run.

Nice work, SA!  You've put together a very nice collection of those books in a relatively short period of time.  :headbang:

Adventure House is great, as is Heartwood Books.  And of course, conventions like Windy City Pulp and Paper Convention and PulpFest.

By far, my favorite convention.  Highly recommended! (thumbsu

That does. Once again you've come through with super helpful info. Thanks!

Glad to help.  Incidentally, the MA mags are where a lot of artists landed because they were more steady work and paid better than comics.  I'm sure you noticed the name on the Escape to Adventure.  He did a lot of work for those magazines.

  10. The most valuable of the bunch is probably the Wildcat.  While some of the MAM mags are particularly scarce, I've never seen one (even very high grade books) sell for more than $1k.  While I don't recall seeing that Escape to Adventure for sale before, the Wildcat comes up fairly often and is usually in the $100-$300 range at auction.  The 1969 issue of Male is common and usually sells for $20-$50.

    Hope that helps.  (thumbsu

Of course, apparently most people then referred to it as the Overprice Guide since the feeling was that nobody in their right mind would ever pay that kind of price for an old used comic book.  :luhv:  :takeit:

We always called it "The Overpriced Street Guide" growing up.  Which was cute for a little while but by the 80s, had lost it's novelty as comics were going for more and more money.  It also had become an invaluable reference both for the color picture section but also for the dealer listings and notes for significant books.  We would take car trips across the US in the summers and if we were lucky, we managed to talk our parents into letting us visit the LCS when we were close by.

Without Overstreet, that would have been nearly impossible.
