At the Lexington KY comic con a few weeks ago I submitted some of my most valuable TMNT books to be signed cleaned & graded. Now I'm seeing that the returns could be 8 months or more. Can someone give some details as to what takes so much longer for a magazine or large format comic, and if anything can be done to reduce the turnaround time?

Welcome to the boards!! (and even better, the magazine section!)

My understanding is that for standard submissions, TATs for both comics and mags are about the same (5-12 months).  But if someone else knows more, feel free to correct me.  It's an awful thing to have to wait that long.  Here's a thread from a few other board members for more information.

It's taken me many years but i've finally completed the set of 8 Stork Books digests.
A true classic Golden Age Vintage Paperback digest line. The first 6 with covers by Fred Rodewald and the last 2 by L.B. Cole. I love the muted quality of the ink colors against the dramatic GGA.

#5 was the last in line for me... it's a nice copy...

Very nice, SA!!  I think I'm still missing 2 or 3 of them but I can't remember which ones off the top of my head.  What a great set!  :applause:

Agreed.  Another BIN for cheap.  They definitely happen as I've been the lucky recipient of more than a few.  Kind of like going to another town into a LCS and finding a hot book for guide.  Congratulations to the buyer.

  4. A lot of great books in this thread!

I think a lot of board members have yet to discover how wild the Men's Adventure Mags are.  If anyone is unfamiliar, these books are incredibly scarce in high grade.  Some of these books you may not see for sale again for years!  GLWTS!

  5. FWIW, I purchased several books from him in the same sales thread and he did pm me after a delay, had been sick, but then shipped the books and included a really nice extra book for the inconvenience.  My experience was very positive, all in all.

@The Troll King, just give this buyer a heads up on status.  I'm sure they just want to know that you're doing okay.

I would not necessarily do that. They (CGC) might find it, and they might give it a purple label for trimming.  Juice doesn't seem worth the squeeze, when its possibly a PLOD.

Apologies, I was mostly joking.  I don't think that separating siamese pages, trimming over folds, etc. should be considered restoration, but CGC obviously does.  So you're correct, if you're going to send in a book for certification, then yes, leave it as is.

Nice pickup :golfclap: There's so many of them... it's a life's work!

There are a lot of them!  And there's a lot of stuff to pursue within the genre- original Pussycat stories are all printed there, early issues have amazing covers and interior art by some of the best like George Gross, Victor Prezio, Walter Popp, Basil Gogos, Mel Crair, James Bama, Rudy Nappi, Clarence Doore, Mort Kunstler, Norman Saunders, Rafael Desoto, Howell Dodd, Charles Copeland, Gil Cohen, etc., and then there are the Nazi issues with all the crazy covers by Eastman (monkey arm reattachment is my personal favorite), and last there are unusual special issues like Man's Life with the Weasel's Ripped My Flesh cover that is sought after because of Zappa, the Bluebook issue with the early Ian Fleming story, etc.

It's a rich landscape of material!.  :headbang:

The Brides of Dracula was the title I was referring to (I know you know, just saying).  Very tough book in grade.  Jack the Ripper is also on the list but it's a little out of the subset.  I keep wondering if there's a Monarch MM601.  Haven't been able to find anything about one.  It seems odd they would start at MM602 with the movie adaptations but I suppose it's possible.
