  1. Episode 3 Review: Non-spoiler version- aside from not having a coherent story arc for the episode and a non-sensical inciting event, the heavy reliance on nostalgia for previous Star Wars iconography was a sad substitute for an interesting story. 1/5 Spoiler version-
  2. And to think I'd never heard of a foundling home before reading that...
  3. As this was just linked to, I reread it and one of the distinctions that makes sense to me is between magazines and "magazine-sized comics". I don't think they belong together in consideration. In that light, the Captain Britain issues, TMNT, Treasuries, etc. would be outside of consideration for the most valuable mags. As would (in my view) the Mickey Mouse magazines and the early Wow Comics and Jumbo Comics. I think of those as Platinum era books and part of the sorting out what a comic book was in the early days. Interestingly, I don't have much more clarity on the Top 10 than I did back then. Obviously, Vampirella 1 is in there. As is Shock Illustrated 3 and Blazing Combat 1. Also, probably Savage Tales 1 and Pussycat 1. But as @Stevemmg said, it gets pretty murky after that. It seems like a few of the Gothic mags would sell for really big money if they ever showed up in high grade (good luck with that). There's just not enough data (due to not enough sales of some of the really tough material) to know.
  4. I think there's an assumption of impropriety due to the relationship between ownership and management of CGC and ownership of Heritage. And this impropriety translated into "gift grades" on many of the Promise books. But, of course, such an assumption is ludicrous and completely impossible. Who would even think of such a thing?
  5. Very nice! I've been looking for a pretty copy of Lure for Love to go with my "Leg-Art" Virgin.
  6. I just wanted to say thanks to all that have posted their finds in this thread. For many years, I viewed foreign comics as just a weird phenomenon. But around 10-15 years ago, I started getting more interested in European comics after a trip to Paris and one of the many cool comic book stores there. Most of what I have are variants of Warren magazines (mostly Vampirella) from France, Finland, Spain, UK and Australia. One of these days, I'll find the time to take photos and post them. In the meantime, thanks to all for sharing these truly rare pieces of ephemera!!
  7. To be fair, anyone who resubmitted one of the Promise books would still be waiting...
  8. It's a caveat emptor situation. There are a small few (of which I think @N e r V is one) who could minimize risk buying copies with unknown provenance. Anyone else is shaking the dice, in my view.
  9. You just said a mouthful. This emoji was made for this moment.
  10. @lbcolefan I was an underbidder and forgot about it. Glad it went to you!
  11. I am an absolute Neal Adams fan for his work up until 1972 or so- incredibly prolific and economical in his delivery. He was constantly innovating POVs and layouts for very compelling storytelling with exceptional illustration and drafting skills. Also, I have nothing but the highest praise for what he did for Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster in the mid-70s. But his work really took a weird turn with Continuity. On a side note, I shared this with @dover before but I was very surprised to see the many, many creatives that worked for him at his studio. Perhaps his work suffered as he looked after and nurtured the careers of others? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crusty_Bunkers
  12. Agreed. Megalith 2 wasn't as good as Megalith 1. (not my copy, taken from internet)
  13. Agreed. Righteousness may feel pretty good in the moment but it's a poor substitute for civility.
  14. Agreed. It's a pretty awesome movie all around. Great structure and morality. In keeping with the same time period, here's another great sports film and one of my favorite scenes.
  15. First appearance and origin of Pussycat by Wally Wood. The annuals for men's magazines are tougher than normal issues but this one is very difficult to find in anything close to decent shape.
