  1. Never ridiculous to ask about art that seems squirrelly, in fact this is a good place to do it. I’ve long written off Bob Kane Batman stuff based on this cost/benefit analysis: benefit: having something drawn by one of the creators of Batman does sound, as a concept, very cool. cost: A) most of the art is fake B) it’s only faked because it’s so simple and awful that you really can’t make a “bad” fake C) nearly every story you read about the guy makes you less and less excited to see a daily reminder of his existence on your wall. So while I love to celebrate the character, there are lots of other artists I seek out for a quintessential Batman piece of art. But that’s just me.
  2. I don’t think I won, but I finished in the top, and yeah you can put me down for it every year. File it under the theory that even broken clock is right twice a day!
  3. It's 10 years old at this point, but if you can find it -- especially at Christmas -- I highly recommend Herobear & the Kid Vol 1.
  4. Yeah you have officially shamed all of us and our wrapping/packing games. The bar is now raised!
  5. I am absolutely NOT saying that I will not appreciate this gift when I open it, nor that I am not very much looking forward to seeing what’s inside — but all I’m saying is that I got so much enjoyment from merely unpacking the gift and the contents of the box, that it alone feels like a present already! Thanks @Dr. Balls
  6. Well, I can’t take credit as if I went out and specifically purchased it for this purpose. Having raised a kid who was heavily into superheroes, means we are — even as he prepares to turn 25 (!) tomorrow — never hurting for superhero stuff we accumulated over the years. So it’s nice to still be able to put it to good use now and then… 😉
  7. We brought up all the Christmas stuff this weekend, so I found the appropriate superhero wrapping paper tonight and boxed it up, so in the morning I can…
  8. Sorry about that! My eyes aren't what they once were!!!!

  10. My first instincts tell me this does not speak to my particular type of OCD... but I'm sure it will for a few others. So, as much as I greatly appreciate the spirit and generosity of the contest (and all things holiday at this site)... I fear I will not do more than some cursory poking around.
  11. Btw - the contest is definitely the “best and quickest kissing up to the judge” right? Ammiright??? Asking for a friend.
  12. Since we have no idea what it is, it’s pretty hard to say we aren’t ready for “it” 😂. So yeah… your contest, your rules and timetable! Whatever works best for you, of course!
  13. Saw this had fallen to page 2 from lack of posts! All I could think was…
  14. I am NOT proud of this. I repeat: I am NOT proud of this.... But there was a summer, more than a decade ago... when members of my staff and I had an usually slow few days in the office... and someone had remarked on seeing an "Ipswich Shellfish" Company truck on the road. We all noted just how much of a mouthful saying "Ipswich Shellfish" is (try it!) - so we repeatedly called up their corporate office just so we could hear their poor staff people struggle to say "Ipswich Shellfish... good afternoon." It NEVER stopped being funny. Again, to repeat. Not remotely proud of that.
  15. Glad to hear you’re passing. I do feel sympathy for the zero feedback ebay buyer - EVERYONE was at zero at one point, but as many have mentioned, a $4k book is NOT the way to come out of the gate. Totally understand that you can’t sell it here, but with a book like that, I would probably try to sell it through my “network” were I in your situation - i.e., reach out to people I’ve bought from/sold to before and that I trust and see if any of them have interest, and/or know of any interested parties whom THEY trust… might lead to something quick and relatively secure.
  16. Noticed this falling to the bottom of the page - get the word out!!
  17. Your maximum register trips (or splitting the transaction) would always be two. Big ticket books in one transaction, small in the other. Regardless of how many. Just make sure you are getting an even number of each.
  18. I 100% believe that anyone who goes to check out at a busy store with a BOGO sale with that set of four priced books gets what they deserve, sorry. It is a very generous deal, but the sale does require the buyer to do a bit of basic math. And while people are of course correct about what the store SHOULD do (and, I believe, would do if before checking out the buyer pointed out what they’d picked out and asked that they be treated as two separate transactions), I think most sales people are just trying to keep the line moving and playing by the rules of the sale. I guess what I’m saying is, if you found yourself in that situation - buy the two $50 books (get one free) and be happy about it. Live without the two cheapies until your next visit. I don’t think the $3 savings will impact you either way.

    Bird R.I.P.

Awfully, awfully sad. So sorry to hear that and deepest sympathies to his family.
  20. I don't think anyone here isn't happy to hear a story of redemption. But even if we take the OP's request at face value, the fact is as many have said - the HOS exists for a reason. You're welcome to continue to be a productive an active board member. But if you commit a violation of trust so egregious that it rises to that level, then it's important to EVERYONE who buys and sells here that they know: we have a zero tolerance for such people, unlike almost all other places where they will buy/sell online. That's what makes this place special. If we were to violate this, we'd be violating our own trust. For this reason, those who created this system were wise enough to make a two-tiered punishment system. HOS and probation. I don't know Chip nor his story, but because I know the rules, I know what line he crossed. That's enough for me. Again, very pleased he's doing better. Hope he posts/contributes to the board in other ways if he wishes... but absolutely not in favor of breaking the rules. Happy Thanksgiving to all!
