Sorry to be a contrarian, but I see a lot of people who say they don't read comics commenting about the quality of comics, that they presumably don't read. And the number of people who have unique insight into the corporate workings of both Marvel and DC is a bit...astonishing. Little did I know the connections you people have! It sounds like a lot of group think going on.

I have maybe 5 titles that I collect and read. There's some excellent work being done in the world of comics, including at the two big publishers. I want to support those creators and my LCS. I spend way more on vintage stuff, but I like to keep some new stuff rolling through. I think there's a great deal of creative energy and high quality work in the field right now, despite all the doomsaying and naysaying.

I'm slowly building this series. This is one of those series from my youth that really hit me on comics being more than mere entertainment. And I didn't even notice the obvious connection of this cover. Boy, do I feel stupid. But thanks for the Sunday education. Well, thanks to @1950's war comics

Really not sure how you arrived at any of this. I mean, obviously, right? LR's assumptions and presumptions aside, ComicLink, ComicConnect, Heritage, or the like gets your buddy a well-funded, experienced selling avenue where the auction house handles incoming money, deals with shipment, does customer service on seller's behalf, and basically makes the experience hassle free. For a $100.00 book, that's a small value, but for a $10,000 one, it's an enormous benefit. It might also be worth providing them a list of the remaining comics to see what's worth getting slabbed.

Why not use Comiclink or another auction house devoted to comics.
