  1. I used to think these Atlas war covers were all hyperbole, and then I read a history of the Battle of Chosin. Now I'd say that, all in all, they're not too inaccurate.
  2. I've been curious what others think now that they've had a couple more weeks to live with it. Anyone else have an updated opinion?
  3. I've been paying attention to what's on the shelves, but also what's advertised in the comics. I think DC is playing a much smarter game than Marvel. Generally, they're producing higher quality work, and they're marketing and publishing intelligently. Check out some DC titles, especially if you've been a Marvel Maniac. To me, it's been fun to get into the world of DC since it's so much more unfamiliar to me than Marvel's.
  4. Don't let the naysayers turn you off to all the good work being done. I keep a small pull list because I would rather spend my money on vintage comics, but I always make a point of trying some new titles. I've enjoyed the Freedom Fighters maxi-series. The alt history spin plays nicely in the context of current white nationalism trends in American culture and politics as well as the WWII context from which it sprang. I take the current Hawkman series. I just like the character, and I've enjoyed the writing and art. It's nothing earth-shattering but sometimes I just want a nice hamburger; not every meal needs to be succulent steak. The current Conan The Barbarian title really captures the feel of Ron E Howard and the BW Smith series. The creative team behind obviously knows the original background and mythos of Conan. It's a strong, back-to-your-roots series. I've actually gotten into the maxi series for Jimmy Olsen: Superman's Pal. Matt Fraction is one of the better artists writers working today, and he uses a somewhat sophisticated structure to weave together a story of how the Olsen and Luthor families have an intertwined history, the current shenanigans of Jimmy Olsen, and the mystery surrounding the apparent death of Jimmy. I've only just started IDW's new Ragnarok series, but it's cool to see Simonson take a totally different approach on Norse mythology and Thor. I encourage anyone to pick up the Mister Miracle series from Tom King and Mitch Gerards. It's smart, moving, and worthy of all the accolades it's received. Immortal Hulk is another worth your time for a fresh take on Banner and the Hulk. Honestly, just go try a few titles every couple of weeks. You will like some, dislike others, but hey, you'll be a comic reader finding what's new and interesting, and dull and overdone. Cinephiles watch movies, doesn't mean they like 'em all. Readers read: I finished two books in the last week. Comic collectors collect. But comic readers read comics, even some bad ones. There is a lot of creative activity around comics. Follow the creators themselves on Twitter. Watch their conversations. That, to me, is one of the cool things about being a fan in the current comic age.
  5. The last two I acquired are these https://www.direwolfdigital.com/eternal-chronicles/
  6. The glossy side has the coating, so yes, it's the one to make contact with the comic. The rough side is untreated.
  7. It’s kinda cool in the sense that some kid cut that out, taped it to his wall or a notebook, and stared at it from time to time.
  8. My comic budget says I can buy more books in March 2020, which has never stopped me before, so illl be right over.
  9. I have an alt ebay account, but I've just never summoned the will to use it. We'll see how badly I want those, I guess...
  10. I've had several attractive offers on books I was following on ebay and snagged some good deals. If you look at the G/S/B here to draw conclusions, there have been numerous listings reducing prices again and again. Myself, it's a better time to buy than sell. That said, I'm totally overspent on comics at Christmas time.
  11. I have found that I'm blocked by a seller with whom I've done no business. I'm not on any public list here, and as I've maintained a good reputation here overall, I don't think it's related to these boards. Kind of annoying as he has books at reasonable prices to complete a run, but what's a brother supposed to do?
  12. So my order arrived. These were four copies of Adventure Time 1A (because I have an irrational compulsion to own 100 copies) that cost only $8.75 apiece. They were advertised as NM. Each comic was individually bagged and boarded. The four comics were inside another bag, which was taped to a piece of cardboard and placed in a cardboard mailer. Some paper packaging material filled the empty space. The mailer was sealed with paper packaging tape, the kind with fibers running through it. The comics were easily NM. I would call them NM+. I'm over 90 copies now, and my copies range from two with significant tears in the cover to 9.8 slabbed copies. These four copies are very, very nice. I typically pay anywhere from $10 to $20 for copies, with $15 a pretty good average, so the prices were quite attractive. So yeah, quite a good transaction for low dollar books. I've had only positive transactions for higher dollar books, too. So yeah, a preferred seller for me. I just need @mycomicshop to tell me who I reach out to so that I can inquire if anymore copies of this are in stock. I'm soooo close to 100 copies, and I need this compulsion to stop!
  13. I've noticed that he's not on daily, but I expect you'll hear from him soon.
  14. When I played Warhammer Fantasy Battle, I would say to my wife, "At least I don't play golf. Now there's an expensive hobby." I don't use that line anymore.

  16. He was nice about it and issued a refund, for slightly more than I requested.
  17. Wrath of Empires by Brian McClellan. If powder mages snorting gun powder to juice themselves in a Napoleonic fantasy setting sounds good to you, start with book 1 in this trilogy.
  18. Uh, I know that I could've done that. Thanks, I guess? Kinda patronizing, but sure...
  19. Good guy @mycomicshop does not gouge on shipping. Because I have an irrational goal of collecting 100 copies of Adventure Time 1A (2012), I hopped on two ebay listings they had. Didn't have to ask and wasn't really planning to bother, but they automatically combined the orders and refunded $5.00. Even small fry sellers often squeeze you on shipping. Thanks, MCS.
