  1. Been up to a lot since I last posted. Here's the piece I'm most proud of. First appearance of the Lone Ranger anywhere. Ashcan from August 1936. These are the only two copies in existence. The 5.0 is the Publisher's copy. The 5.5 is the Library of Congress copy.
  2. Since we are talking about WT hoarding right now. I have 2 1925, and 7 1926 issues of Weird Tales up for sale ending at auction on either Friday (tomorrow) or Sunday. Higher graded then you usually ever see. My ebay user id is the same as here. Check out my other cgc post today for the specifics.
  3. I believe that's what you call a disease. If you find a cure for it let me know.
  4. theres also an alternate black bat character different than the one you have mentioned. he had a six issues self titled pulp. VHTF a copy of any of them.
  5. off the top of my head for issues that went ten or more for superheroes in one pulp title bill barnes dusty ayres jungle stores' kigor pete rice rio kid the skipper shorter runs include secret six 4 ghost/greet ghost 7 wu fang 7 yen sin 3 captain satan 5 dr death 3 as titled plus the all detectives captain combat captain satan 5 hopalong Cassidy 2 lone ranger 8+ashcan sheena (only 2 issues) domino lady (gl with this one) the saucy romantic adventures title etc Here's a link you should read: http://www.altuspress.com/the-ultimate-pulp-superhero-index/
  6. im looking to complete my wu fang set. what grade were those in, and were they decently priced? Don't suppose you have the sellers contact info? Ignore me if I'm asking too much. Thanks.
  7. I don't get offended. I'd accept a decent best offer on any item in my store. All the prices are only greedy suggestions.
  8. I know it's a very rare pulp but that seems like a high price tag for a coverless copy. It has best offer on it. the 25k price is just an attention getter.
  9. There is one for sale on ebay right now. eBay item number: 371317576256
  10. I just listed a mid/mid-high grade REH Spicy on ebay at auction among a lot of other items. eBay item number: 271947308052 if you are interested. Ends next Friday.
  11. Yeah. I just reread bookery's. All three of those 1924 issues with Houdini covers are definitely Lovecraft works.
  12. I don't know if it's written anywhere, but I'm 99% sure it was Lovecraft writing for Houdini in the other issues too. It being over 90 years ago now, it'd take someone who is an expert in "forensic writing" to be able to prove it and even then only with a high degree of certainty. Houdini was a great man, just not a writer. Lovecraft on the other hand... And Lovecraft? He created entire universes where crazy mess happened. People like REH created characters who just so happened to be in other worlds. A lot easier to put characters like Conan on the cover then the Cthulhu Universe; especially if they are wearing two piece bikinis and being sex whipped.
  13. March, April, and May/June/July 1924 Weird Tales ghostwriting for Houdini.
  14. I have a complete set minus 7 issues (1-3, 5, 7-9; all from 1923) of Weird Tales/Oriental Stories/Magic Carpet. Condition across the set is roughly fine. Later issues are VF/NM and many are from the Bethlehem pedigree. Earlier issues from the early to mid 20's range in condition from good to fine. The stuff from the late 20's and thirties is in about fine/fine- on average with many in VF. Condition is much higher then that set Adventure House was trying to sell earlier this year where the first 50 issues were all low grade, trimmed and bound before he broke it up. It's my personal collection. I've bought at sold about 2000 issues of Weird Tales both as single copies and collections to get to this point. I might sell it; but you are looking at low 6 figures.
  15. Thought I'd revive this thread a bit. Some recent acquisitions, set's I've completed and upgrades.
  16. Depends on what you mean by time period and what you mean by similar. Others to check out would include Edgar Allan Poe Robert E Howard H G Wells Algernon Blackwood Frank Belknap Long Clark Ashton Smith
  17. I was watching that one because I thought it looked like a cool book, but had no idea it would go for so much. I have a lot to learn. it shouldn't have gone that high. Two people got way too excited. I bought the exact same book in VF off ebay a month and a half ago at auction for something like a couple hundred. I'm guessing, neither party wanted to lose out on a copy a second time. It's a "you see it for sale once a decade" book normally. Realistically this book in this condition is only 400-600 or so. VF is maybe a 1000. But two guys wanted it bad so....
  18. Acquired the bulk of these today. First complete set I've seen. Average condition is VF- with 5 of the 8 issues being in VF/NM with perfect overhangs.
  19. Not the place for it, but hard to get you pulp guys attention otherwise. Anyone know a good non-online source for Stanton and Lee hardcovers? It's a rare arkham house poetry imprint. Thought someone might have a lead considering AH is like material. Oliver and the wayward owl 1945 bright journey 1953 wind over Wisconsin 1957 restless in the river 1965 night letters 1971 I've checked all the online sources and either they aren't present or aren't in good enough condition. I need my copies to be virtually perfect and all first editions from the Stanton and lee publishing house with dj. Any help would be financially appreciated in tracking what I need down. Thanks. - M
  20. Sorry I made you sad. But I thought you as a collector would rather know the truth then live in ignorant bliss. -M
  21. I hope your aren't talking about the copy that just sold on ebay that was originally priced at 22.99 from glass house antiques? That's a BCE. They cut the dj to hide it, but the copyright page is different from that of a first. Compare your copyright page to this one: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Complete-The-Foundation-Trilogy-Isaac-Asimov-3-HBDJs-1st-Eds-Gnome-Press-/351070520093?pt=Antiquarian_Collectible&hash=item51bd6f031d#ht_1307wt_1355 (Picture 5)
