  1. That Knuckles jumped didn’t it? It very low throughout the auction. On July 7, it was still at $1,250. So deceiving.
  2. True, true. I used to see this happen on eBay frequently, though not too often lately.
  3. One man’s D*ck Dillion is another man’s Steve Dillion. I was confused too, thought he was talking about Steve, until I figured it out. Doesn’t help that you can’t spell kciD without getting flagged. And every time I see “KJ” for Killing Joke I think we’re talking about Kelley Jones. “Batman KJ” doesn’t help either.
  4. There's no hard fast rule but you have to be able to read the room too. If someone APPROACHES YOU with a piece asking for $3k and you say, "Well, can do $2800," then I think that's reasonable (although that doesn't guarantee a done deal). If YOU APPROACH someone on CAF for a piece that's NSF and they say, "Ok, $3100," and you counter with $3k, I think that's reasonable, too; however, you also risk killing the deal. They are not at all obligated to sell to you. The bad manners in this case would be if you offer half. Because currently the market is hot (or perceived as hot, because not everything is) you have to understand what you're willing to spend on a certain piece and if you're to pay a little extra over your comfort level to secure it. Here's the thing you're not considering: you cold call a piece; the seller says I'll sell for $3100. You say, well I can do $2800, but I need a month to pay (or whatever). The seller agrees, but now has time to think about the deal. They may 1) renege on the deal and you leave with nothing; 2) shop it around and if they find a buyer that is willing to meet their original price or beat it, they will sell it behind your back. This has happened to me and my friends more than once. So, you really have to consider if it's even worth countering, but it goes back to being able to read the room.
  5. I got that email too. Pretty disappointed too. I do wonder why. I can’t help to think that bids weren’t high enough but who really knows. I thought they were where they should be given recent comps.
  6. I don’t know anything about the cel market (though a little bit about the Simpson art market), but I will say that the Mr Plow episode is a classic. If someone held a gun to my head and asked me to name all the classic Simpsons episodes Mr Plow would come in at #2 or #3 But at $24k? Wow. Wonder what an actual Mr Plow cel would fetch?
  7. There is an active thread right now called “Buying Something You Don’t Like” that either legitimizes FOMO or completely voids it. I can’t tell which.
  8. Come to think of it, this happened to me too. I won, I think, one bid increment under my max. 🤔
  9. I did my own research on this the first time around and came up empty handed. I spoke to Bob Budiansky about it who was in charge of special projects at the time and he doesn’t recognize the piece. That can say a lot about the published status of the piece or his memory. (Or it could have fallen under a different editor.) My money is on X-Men ephemera like Drewsky says. If so, that’s going to take a lot of patience and detective work. I’m also hoping Ron Lim or Tom Palmer could answer. There’s also the possibility that this is a rejected something or a really nice commission.
  10. I missed out on the good ol’ days when the BP was “only” 18% and PayPal was an accepted form of payment. And you know it’s only going to get more expensive from here.
  11. I don’t know if I want to like, laugh, or cry.
  12. I won my first and only HA auction last year. I essentially put in my highest bid a few minutes before proxy bidding ended and let it run its course. I won like that. However, if this is piece you absolutely have to have, you have to be present during the live bidding and keeping bidding until your competitors bow out.
  13. The book is legit and mostly is composed of the published, colored pinups. Every so often they added the original art in there. Just so happens the Alicia is one of them. Also included in the book is that “Clobbering Time” Thing pinup, but not the original art, of which Jim Halperin posted in CAF in December of 2019.
  14. I did not buy it. In general, I’m trying to cut down the clutter in my house that’s why. To me, this is the kind of book that you flip through once and you probably don’t need to go through it again, unless, you’re super fan of Kirby and want these pinups collected in one place. If I bought this book it would be so that my kids can draw the art over tracing paper. They are not yet old enough though. Hope that helps.
  15. I thought someone here owned this Jack Kirby Sue Storm pinup. I couldn't remember who though. I was split between two people. Anyhow, I found that the art was recently reprinted in a pinup book and I tried to notify the owner. Oh well, it's up on auction now. Hopefully, this motivates anyone who's interested. You're welcome.
  16. 0% i like holding the pages. Smelling the paper and ink.
  17. Not the way you think. Technically you can in their art, photo, and print service but you’d be essentially encasing it in a 9x12 slab.
  18. Nice guess. It was actually Round Table Pizza. I don’t think they are a nationwide chain because I’ve never seen one in Arizona or Texas. The one in my hometown had a small arcade room with maybe 5 game consoles, Dragon’s Lair being one of them. My first time at a Chuck E. Cheese was actually last year.
  19. I remember 25 cents bought me 5 seconds of game play and my mother telling me what do you mean you spent your dollar already I haven’t even unwrapped my straw yet?
  20. I’m not a rep so I’m the least qualified to say this; however, it’s my understanding that reps were able to set up a booth with 18 wall pieces PLUS you got an additional X amount of pieces to display per artist you rep. So you had a booth and a sub-booth, sort to speak. However, I’ll concede to any other collector-rep for the facts.
  21. In various undisclosed and underground locations around Canada I’m sure
  22. Hi Bill, First, great work. I really enjoyed the CALIVE. It really was like a con experience. So regarding "a list of reduced items," I thought maybe having something like the "Premium Updates" sidebar that you have on regular CAF. Something that I, as a seller, can type in to say that I've reduced my prices and that news will show up in a feed on the home page.
