  1. Ah yes that’s the correct name
  2. Yeah I think he was quoting a collector named Richard Sanchez(?) who said “one great piece a year would make for a great collection in 25 years.”
  3. Your handle “DeadpoolJr” probably says it all. I’m actually surprised that these DP pieces went for prices that didn’t break the bank. Do you think with DP2 movie being 2-3 years removed and the movie property (DP3) being in limbo, prices have cooled? I just think a lot of the recent stuff could’ve fetched at least 33% more if it was sold during the movie hype. My disclosure is that I don’t collect Deadpool art. I’m just interested in the 90s art market.
  4. I know this is not what you’re asking but I want to add that artists will sometimes gift art to writers. This info may especially come in handy looking for “lost” art be it that writers tend not to share their art on CAF or talk about what they have or be asked if they have any. Jim Kruger told me Alex Ross gifted him the cover of Justice #1. I think Jim may have had another Ross cover that he may have tried selling on eBay.
  5. Well that’s interesting. Never in my life did I expect to see those kinds of notes on a CGC label.
  6. Butthole-o: A Butt Hurt Story Wait... what are we talking about????
  7. Ron Frenz, Erik Larsen, and Mark Badger.
  8. I'm doing a cheat here. If I was commissioning The King with investment/flip in mind, I'd have him draw Captain America vs Red Skull with the American flag and a Na'zi (insert Aldo Raine voice) banner draped in the background. Of Kirby's creations, O.M.A.C. is my fave so how could I not? Brother Eye would have to be in the background. If I was going for something with personal meaning, I'd have Kirby pay a homage to his cover to Super Powers #6 (v. 2, 1985). Not a recreation, but a homage to Superman battling Darkseid with Earth in the background. Of course, I'd have to travel back to 1977 and then wait around for 8 years as a man out of time for that to happen. I don't do commissions often, but I do get to tempted to see how artists will interpret a character that I think is good fit for them, but they have never drawn. In this case, I think He-Man would be a good fit for Jack. But He-Man's design itself, although iconic, is kinda boring, so I'd have Jack draw He-Man riding a Wind Raider to get that Jack Kirby vehicle in there.
  9. Is something up with CAF tonight? More than half the images I click on won't load.
  10. Wow...it was nicely colored and the “S” added and it still couldn’t break a $150 bid???? My guess wasn’t too far off then. Also looks like someone cracked the slab to get it colored and paid again to slab it...the slabbing alone is almost $100
  11. I can’t speak for your piece but mine is likely blueline.
  12. I wish! That price applies(d) to I Hate Fairyland and “C” pages for AvX. The good AvX pages were $500+. Or $550 after tax and shipping 😭
  13. Speaking of the Felix Comic Art podcast, IIRC, David Mandel has a Skottie Young cover in his collection. Sure it’s a Star Wars wraparound cover. But if SY is good enough for David Mandel, then...
  14. I would not argue with you that this is untrue, but to be fair, when I bought my SY page from Felix for $500 it arrived with a price of $600 on the back. I asked Felix about it and he said he had talked Skottie into lowering his original asking price.
  15. Those were pretty good prices. If only we were able to foretell the future (that SY covers would be attainable at a lower price point).
  16. I believe you can vote for your own piece(s) but many participated and didn’t bother to show up at the polls.
  17. Wowza! My idea of due diligence is printing out the consignments page from the HA website and taping it to the inside cover of my Itoya with a note that reads: “Send here.”
  18. I’m on the fence with this phenomenon leaning both ways. “A” material is always going to perform well no matter what. And then it’s a matter of who or who doesn’t show up for auction, regardless of “freshness.”
  19. I tend to err on the side of conservatism. So If I win something at auction nowadays, I assume I overpaid. And if I put the piece back on auction tomorrow I don’t assume my underbidder will show up, so I look at the third highest bid (in this case $8k) as the price of what I can get on a short sell; or at best, it’s a tango between the underbidder and the third highest bidder if I auctioned it off the next day. So in this case, there’s an $11k gap between the underbidder and third highest bidder and that would make me nervous. I hope this one is a keeper.
  20. I’m no expert but I would proceed skeptically. I just don’t know how something like this could be created without a record or a story or a legend behind it. In other words, true provenance.
  21. The winner and underbidder have quite a bit of feedback so not likely I’d guess.
  22. I don’t keep a spreadsheet and i wish I took better records during my early days. But I pretty much keep track of what you stated above in my CAF under price paid, date of purchase, and notes. When I sell or trade a piece, I update the notes, like who I sold/traded it to, for how much, and when. CAF also totals how much you paid in art and how much it’s valued. I don’t fill in the value because I don’t know.
