  1. Yes and yes I've had an extra for a few months now, ever since I started searching again on ebay for hiddens. It is in gd/vg condition; I just picked up another one recently that I'd like to have submitted. I don't think it will be my new "best copy" but definitely worth looking into. I'll see if I can add scans of recent pickups here. Just didn't know where the set collectors had progressed to, during my self imposed hiatus from comics I think Harry might have told me about your find. The last KCO 205s I've seen were from major dealers and on eBay. There was one sitting forever in a Balto dealer's ebay store until the price lowered to $50 (maybe sold this year?), JScomics had a "hidden" copy I picked up last year.
  2. I have plenty of backing boards with such information and I've never followed up. With my luck these stores have gone out of business. The store stamps look faded from back in the day. I just may have to dig a few of these up. On a similar note, my first KCO 207 with the big "10" in black marker all over the face of it was obviosly pilfered at some point from the Arbutus MD jr high library, as revealed by the book stamp on the cover
  3. moved from the registry set forum. Roger is answering a post I made. Figured some folks may want to chime in on their rankings of most difficult issues to come by from their experience. I agree with most of the above and Carl has been at this longer than I. However, you left Rawhide Kid off the list and I would put that right below Kid Colt or at least even with MMW. I would also move WBN down to the Jungle Action range and move Marvel Adventures above MTA. Again this is based on my experience which may not be reality since as Carl says it just depends on how you were hooked up. I also had a heck of a time finding decent copies of Master of Kung Fu. They are not tough to find in low grade but decent copies always seem to elude me or go for out-of-this-world prices. Good to see some variant talk again around here too. Hey Comicdey, what other variants to you have? Could you post them up?
  4. I can only assume this was directed at the Turgid Tranvestite of the Tumultuous Tundra?
  5. Monster kudos to nochips for a wonderful Origins set. I got it on Saturday and I'm halfway thru the set. Well packed and always great to deal with Mark MikeS - the last of my VCC buys - got the awesome package today and steadied my nerves after the ordeal Greggy's 'goods' had caused. Thanks for a wonderful deal and I'm glad I could continue to work with trusted forumites
  6. They've been baggin' and boarding your moderns so why not this? So I left work early today to make sure I beat the traffic and get to the post office before it closes at 5. I walk up to the counter and hand over my pink slip and I get a look from the clerk that says "Good God! Someone's finally here to take that thrice-accursed totem of evil" I had heard that a series of unfortunate freakish mishaps had befallen the workers at that branch since last Tuesday when the package arrived - two carriers will not be coming back After the brave clerk had returned from the back with the package, I saw her cleaning off the last vestiges of that yellow police -do not cross - crime scene tape, stuck to the Greggy box. After practically throwing it at me, she told me, in not so many words, That I was never to come thru that post office door again and what kind of person deals with such a malevolent force like Greggy. She told me no good could ever come of it and if I valued my soul, I should break all ties with Greggy, as soon as possible. I could only apologize profusely as I was forcefully ushered out the door along with this package of hell. It shuddered as if it had a mind of its own. It sensed the outside, knowing that it was almost free again, to be let loose in the streets, wreaking havoc. The two brave workers that had given up their limbs as sacrifice was nowhere near enough to put a dent in this package's insatiable appetite. As I brought the package home, I was thankful that my family was nowhere around and that I would be able to open this seething vileness, also known as GReggy's VCC reject package. I would be able to perform the elaborate and perilous cleansing rituals before I would trust these books around my precious family. I'd never forgive myself if I let any part of greggy's sickness corrupt my young children, so full of light and hope. I sat there carefully with my bone shank, carved from the ulna of a recently canonized saint. Piercing that outer layer of cellophane, I was almost overcome by the foulest of stenches emanating from within. But bravely, (or foolishly), I pressed on to manage to remove the innards of packing as only a master of the dark arts could manage to put together. As I removed the contents, uttering incoherent ancient prayers, I saw pristine examples of Greggy's undergraded Date With Debbies, only to be marred, by a mysterious "stain" around the mid spine area. My insides churned as I pondered what on God's green earth could possibly make such a gelatinous rotted mess. I quietly heard Greggy's laughter inside my head as I got to the 9.2 Lois Lane - Greggy had left his trademark - none other that the famed "nutsack crease" - on my poor NM- Lois. I wept for a good hour, bemoaning my loss, and swearing that one day, I will brave the trek into the Great Frozen North and exact my revenge on the giggling gremlin known as Greggy
  7. Katchin up on kudos: all these forumites are folks that I would love to deal with agian with no hesitation. They can pack well and safely to preserve the condition of the books thru transit. To me, that factors highly in my decisions to do repeat business with sellers Thanos_of_titan - I nearly made it into the probation thread on this deal . Paul sent the book I won from ebay and even set up cheaper shipping for me...way before I paid him! I came home Thursday and the book I won from Sunday is sitting on my table. oops! Kudos to a trusting and great forumite! GACollectibles - great guy - called him up to pay by credit card for a sweet well packed and quickly shipped Iron Man 1 VF-. I've never had such a nice copy of this book! The old lady, who's credit card number I used to pay for the book still hasn't reported it stolen so, I may be picking up more books from you dmobley - sent me a great set to help me catch up on my Civil War reading and I hooked up a co-worked with some current Iron Man. He heard all about the movie and was interested from the water cooler talk about the series and different direction Iron Man's been going lately. deamentia- I've finally read that entire lot you sent me. I wanted to see what the buzz was about Anita blake. I got caught up real fast on the planet hulk storyline and am psyched for World war hulk coming soon. and not wanting to forget my yen for new DC, JLA 1 was awesome - nice rebuilding story. Thank you very much for a great sale and also for being a great buyer when you won my books off ebay greggy - the Queen of all Bronze! I have not picked up his package from the Post Office yet but I'm sure I'll be happy with the books as they are ungraded and well shipped as all my other dealings with Greggy bullseye - sent me a shortbox of run fillers and reading material. This will be my next project. re-reading 90s Daredevil which was a title I collected back then. nerfherder-3, jonsjesper, pirate, evilash - great deals, both buying and selling with these folks with whom I've also had great relations with on the boards. Always great to work with board buddies you've interacted with for years because you're guaranteed to be treated well. Off to find some more deals or possibly fill more wantlists out there...
  8. OH YEAH! 1st two VCC packages just in today.starting to read them already. Huge kudos to deamentia for the massive lot of modern reading material I picked up from him. The Hulks will keep me busy through May Priced well, packed nicely and shipped immediately, wonderful forumite to deal with My 2nd package was from pirate. Passing along some sweet SHANNAs from the 70s. i've always loved these covers Thanks again for the sweet 30 cent variant as well. Pirate has always been a great go to guy for accurately graded books as well as fun books to pick up on the cheap. A true asset to the marketplace and contributor to these forums.
  9. Just came back from the post office. After kicking a full line of taxpayers' arses, I bully my way to the guy who's handling "pick-up" only duty He brings out this huge HSN.com box and I see it's insured at the sellers' cost I get in the car and pop the box open and pull out.... a sweet copy of Hulk 181. Much better than the 7.5 copy I had before - deep rich red colors on cover, not faded orange like most I've seen. Old blue label so I'm thinking this might look better with the new big number label and a higher number I would not hesitate to deal with marveljunkie again. Please don't confuse him with the "junkie" on the Probation list. Too many junkies around here The box was multi-layered in bubble wrap and there was no foreseeable way this slab was getting cracked. Best of luck in selling your loose Jawa "anatomically correct" variant
  10. Huge and belated kudos for some forum only buys: fastballspecial - expected no less from a fellow variant collector and Modern enthusiast. His recent contributions on 'hot' Modern sales data has been very intuitive and a boon for the boards. Great job on your posts and sales Robert! Most sincere thanks. rodey - great books and very careful packing. Thank you again for some awesome reads that i needed to catch up on. Hopefully I can find you some of the books you are looking for in return sd2416 - some nice modern steal and great reading material. Shipped safe and fast. Would recommend to others on here and I have to praise him on his latest thread - just keeping up to date with the orders and who is buying what first is a monumentous task. I see a lot I would like but it seems other forumites have beat me to a lot of the listings. I can only foresee great deals there for those involved. pirate - excellent steal of a deal. Thank you for breaking up your set to hook me with books I needed for my own set. You were giving me a complex there for a bit, thinking you didn't want to sell to me All I have to say is "Vote for Pedro" blazingbob The Stormy One has hooked me up with some accurately graded price variants and a sweet raw DD 131 for a steal of a deal. Priced well, packed well and shipped fast, Bob remains one of the best dealers out there that I seek to do repeat deals with. On the sales end, huge kudos to MutantKeys, who I have ultimate trust in to handle my books, and personally inspect them for additions to his X-Men set. I wish him the best in his quest and have to say that Danny is a breath of fresh air when it comes to dealing with relative newbies, who for the most part, have flaked out on forum marketplace sales and don't hold to their end of the bargain. Young Danny brings much-needed enthusiasm to this hobby and backs his word on deals that make it a better forum to transact with. Glad we could work together
  11. I love this thread because it showcases some of the finest books out there in all types of genres. I can count on it to expand my collecting horizons if I ever decided to dabble in collectiong outside Bronze/Modern, which I'm familiar with. when members show top stuff from these genres, it has more sentimental value for me but from spending time on these boards, I can appreciate what others have to offer. I blame greggy for my growing penchant for DC romance books
  12. Nice to see Hughes fans. Are you exclusive into Hughes Catwomans/DCs? You hve all his recent Wonder Womans? Maybe his tomb Raider covers before the Top Cow series ended?
  13. Thanks to rodey for some great books and sweet deals on modern reading material! SuperFast and safe shipping! Would highly recommend to anyone here who'd like to deal with him
  14. Are those Witchblades recently slabbed? Very nice!
  15. Sweet forumite-to-forumite deal with Fastballspecial. This guy has always treated me right, whether buyer, seller, via CGC marketplace, or ebay. Great deals on new and hot books
  16. Thanks for working with me on some Modern Spideys and can't wait til you are stateside for future deals.
  17. Back in 2000, I met a guy thru ebay who happened to live in Centreville and claimed to have some affiliation with the (at the time) recently defunct AE/AU.com. I was able to go over and see what stock he had left and he had several longboxes of AU exclusives for Top Cow/Image titles and had some other modern "hot" variants. Very nice guy and I picked up quite a nice stash from him. I saw him set up with some new associates at some local shows, promoting a toy/gaming online catalog company they were trying to get up and running.
  18. Yep, as far as I know here are the only six (I think this is the order) and like Harry said two more still in progress... FD S&B 4Gemworks DD Shieldagent Metarog I'd be interested to know how long it took each of you from the first variant to the last. It took me exactly 2 years and 4 months from when I got my MTU #45 to th KC #208. Of course I had many advantages in that I had access to a whole bunch of people that had dupes. I am curious though. I bought my first variant off ebay from Glenn Malloy - 4gemworks - DEFENDERS 37 CGC 9.0 30 Cent Variant-WOW for $150 on 11/4/2002 My quest ended when I picked up a lot of books from Don of Gateway Comics in WV in the summer of 2004 - I believe the sale was finalized in August. he posted his find on these boards and he helped out several of the forumite collectors with their collections in a simultaneous complicated deal. Around 18 months, start to finish (sort of...I'm still chasing the high grade copies that are out there)
  19. Congrats Roger! Glad you're quest has ended.
  20. Because they are virtually impossible to find in any condition? I think originally to get them on the census as existing..... Yes and Ill add to that. Probably to give the books a little more credibility when selling. Everyone here I guess seems to bid much higher on a book slabbed 5.5 versus a ebay seller selling a raw copy in the same grade. I can understand why too as it catches most restoration, defects most average sellers/buyers wont catch or dont know to look for, and the average ebay seller just doesnt grade that well. Not saying its perfect, but do the math you have a very rare book that there are only 2 or 3 existing copies of.(One of them only has 1) You have a pool of say 50 buyers(For argument's sake it mayb higher/lower) who are all looking to complete their 35 variant set. You sell one unslabbed and you sell the other copy slabbed you are probably looking at a sizable difference money wise.
