  1. Was on the variant hunt tongiht again and what to do I see? Power Man 32 CGC "9.4" oopsie... but they do put in the disclaimer, which I come across after I've already pulled my hair out at the thought of an upgrade lost I wonder if I'll have more success adopting this listing style
  2. where's Asian man-servant/Clea's secret lover Wong?
  3. with the xmen variants, they are not rare but are pricey because even non-variant collectors chase after them, but these are hoarded by a few people I can think of, including myself. If you ever take note of xmen variant bid histories on ebay, it's usually the same people fighting for the x-variant.
  4. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=12592&item=6515430122&rd=1 I guess Sandro needs it Bidding this early and earnestly may get him some punishment bids much like what's been happening to him on 35 centers he bids on...
  5. sorry didn't see this thread....my links are in my sig line. won't this thread keep getting buried since most folks just start a new thread and keep bumping until the aux end?
  6. Thanks Paul! Your site and help along the way have been an immeasurable and much appreciated contribution. Fill us in on the project when you can
  7. btw on the Astonishing Tales 36 CGC 9.0, did you find out why it got marked down?
  8. Let me know if you are selling so I can get rid of my 8.0
  9. Mysteriously, the 30 variant logos have reverted back to the normal 25 cent covers and the Marvel Value stamps have been all cut out of the books Carl was to ship to Harry...
  10. Coming from a guy who rarely posts in this thread but feels the need to try and police it, excuse me if I'm not taking your criticism and general trolling as anything but a really bad joke. Jim Horse [#@$%!!!], Jim. I would have preferred not to see a bunch of [#@$%!!!] ruining this thread with petty bickering, but apparently you have other ideas. Again, Jim, USE YOUR BRAIN. You're doing the EXACT same thing that you're person_without_enough_empathying about ME for doing. If you don't like it, then "go fist yourself." I contributed the books that I have that are germane to the thread, and now I read it whenever new books are put up. Isn't THAT what this thread is for? Between this attitude and the way you've been acting up in General, I'm going to feel very comfortable simply ignoring you and anything else you might have to say from this point on. Let me know if you ever find a way down off that high horse. (And isn't THAT ironic, that someone would accuse YOU of being on a high horse?) " " Merry christmas?
  11. I was probably involved in all transactions you mentioned in above post. The reason I slab the X-men 98-100 variants is to increase confidence in the product for buyers who don't know me from the next guy. For instance, I know Harry (ShieldAgent) prefers unslabbed books so if I come across an upgrade for him, I'll offer it raw. But then again we have deal history behind that trust. Slabbing also has to do a lot with the general feeling on ebay that all sellers overgrade. So with midgrades, even with a large scan which I use, it can be a guessing game for certain new buyers and I'm guessing they'll bid lower based with that "sellers overgrade" bias in mind. To me, even the mid grades are worth slabbing on these since you not only get variant collectors' attention on these Xmen but the general larger X-men comic collecting population takes some notice of these semi key issues. Also I've come across many copies where stuff is cut out - slabbing coupled with a fairly large scan reduces pretty much all doubt about what you will end up with in hand. As for fake variants, we have had some discussed on here, i.e. Iron Fist 14 and Star Wars 1 - usually the 35 cent variants. Some sellers may not include a scan and call something a variant which is truly a reprint. Yeah I'd say that when it comes to higher dollar deals for these books, I'd be concerned about the variant's authenticity, especially from unproven sellers or those with scans that look like they were stolen from past auctions.
  12. Happy Holidays and much KUDOS to member STROMM (Don from Gateway Comics) for finally helping me complete my 30 cent variant set today! Truly a professional and very fair on his pricing. I hope someone on here can help him find that Bats statue he needs...
  13. Ditto here... Don (Stromm) sent a perfectly packed box and protected wach book including the unslabbed. Don and Linda have been nothing but saints for dealing with us and our "demands" Don seems to be giving away those HTD 4s Thanks again for helping me finally complete the set! The last two I needed were Ringo Kid 28 (4gemworks) and KCO 208 (Stromm/Don and Linda/Gateway Comics)... now I just have to work on that registry set and scans once I get the upgrades I need
  14. This was my first Western acquired - 6 months into collecting the set...then I find out everyone and their mother has one and in better grade
  15. Stromm is still on these boards posting and contributing and is waiting on the books to come back from CGC
  16. Congrats Rog! Thanks for the scan or the 134, sweet find... As for the MT 66, we all have had that 1 book that we had the hardest time finding while someone else seems to have picked it up early on in the quest. My "common toughies" were MSHs, MGCs, Marvel Adventures, and Daredevils. I know other collectors who have had no problem in finding these MT66 - I have had a hard time with these in general. I got a full 5 variant set from rust-belt off ebay 2 years ago, and I've never come across an MT66 since, but maybe b/c I wasn't really looking either? I've spotted some 67 & 70s but not one other of 66,68 or 69. Could be because they are reprints of common ASM issues so collectors would have had less reason to pick them up?
  17. They are not really rare but since they are somewhat key issues that fetch premiums even with the regular 25 cent versions and they belong to a highly collected title like X-men and there are several people out there and on here that hoard them, you may be shelling out some bucks.
