  1. Last complete coverless sale according to GPA was for $46K over a year ago.

I see no reason that one should sell for less than that now. Arguably the centerfold is the most expensive wrap in the book, and of course the first wrap is the new, expanded origin of Superman, so those alone might be worth the rest of the book combined.

A little off topic, but I thought this was the best discussion to include this...

It is rumored that DA once said he is not selling unless it was for a "life changing amount of money".

Given the prices that his MH books would now command, I think we are at that level... Any chance we see DA's truly good stuff coming to market?

In 2016, The Dentist purchased Batmobile #1 from Rick Champagne who had paid $4.62 million for it in 2013. So what exactly would be "life-changing money" for him?

They have movies in production, and Superman doesn't.  Plus Man Of Steel already got beaten soundly by Aquaman.  As did Batman v Superman.

And yet it is Superman and Lois that is CW's most streamed show with no Aquaman in site, and HBOMax is prepping a new Superman cartoon and not an Aquaman one.

Superman is evergreen, while Aquaman most likely is tied to however long Jason Momoa is still on the property (and we have yet to see if the original success can be replicated).

Equally odd is the rusted out staple on the Cap 1.  To me, the Cap 1 and the Bat 1 got stored differently than the 9.8 white pagers we've been seeing

The Bat 2 and even the 9 have similar damage as does the Captain Marvel #1, Special Edition #1, and a few other early books.  We're still only 30%(ish) of the way into the collection. And it seems that the issues he got when he first started were well loved and read by a much younger person than just a few years later. Most likely we will see more books from the 1940 and 41 period that are more heavily worn than 42-43, and then by 44ish he really starts taking care of them. Makes sense to me, I first started buying back issues (for more than cover price) right around my 10th birthday and even though I thought I was taking care of them, there is a big difference between how those books look (the few I still have) and how ones I purchased at  ages 14 and 15 look.

I wonder why so much foxing and or staining on that Promise Bat 1. Considering most of the books from his collection were 8.0's or better and all very clean. Maybe it was stored in a different place.

How you take care of books when you are 10-12 is very different than how you take care of books when you are 18-20.

Like many times ive bought on these boards.  Im looking for a low grade complete unrestored or maybe a coverless complete unrestored. Thanks

Where were you a week ago when one sold at Heritage for less than $25K? (Less than half what the last coverless Supey #1 brought, btw.)

I'm rewriting the "Top Ten Most Valuable Comics" article with new values and a new order. When I first wrote it, books in the top ten started at $550,000. There are probably 100 books now that would sell for that much.

There are 36 AF15s in 8.5 or better alone, add to that 30 or so Action 1s and 25 or so Tec27s and you are already almost there. Count a dozen Supey 1s, maybe twice that many Bat 1s, some Cap 1s, Marvel 1s, and other stuff and I think you are looking at easily double your estimate.

  8. Why is everyone using the restored 1.8 sale to immediately move Marvel #1 ahead of Batman #1 (possibly, but probably not) and Superman #1 (definitely not)?

Not a single person has mentioned the equally valid coverless sale from last week that was at a price point below the last coverless Bat 1 from earlier this year and not even half the price of the last coverless Superman #1 from a year ago.  Doesn't fit the narrative so no need to mention it?

By the time the Mile High MC 1 or Allentown CA 1 come up for sale, there will probably be 10+ 9.6 AF 15s.

Would you trade a Mile High MC 1 or Allentown CA 1 for one of the four (so far) 9.6 AF 15s?

You've been incorrect on your AF15 predictions so far, and there is no reason to think otherwise now. I think the fact that there are four copies in 9.6 is what kept the price as low as it was.

It doesn't matter if you or I would trade the MH Marvel 1 or Allentown Cap1 for one as neither or us is in (or will be in) the position to do so. There are lots of evaluations I found (and find) wacky, but onward and upward they go. Everyone freaked out when FF #52 hit $90K, but now that is a $250K book even though there are now additional 9.8s on the census. Nothing SA Marvels do surprises me anymore, and it certainly wouldn't surprise me if the highest graded copies of the first appearance of the most collected character continue to be higher priced than anything else the company produced.
