  1. Well there is no shortage of that in original OA collecting either.
  2. I known little about these digital collectibles, but I would like to comment on the part of the conversation centered around cost of entry for this hobby and people perhaps being driven to digital as an alternative. My experience is that most people fascinated with this hobby typically find a niche they can afford to collect in (one of the many modern art reps, independent artist direct, 'new' art) and over time their income increases and they slowly escalate due to that or their mindset changes and they up their spending accordingly. Those that can't make that adjustment for one reason or another that I've personally known simply get out of the hobby. They usually don't stop collecting completely...I've seen them move to hardcover / omnibus collecting, back to single issues, to rare variant cover collecting (the modern forum here has some very vocal proponents of such), or to some combination thereof. So, certainly, it is confirmation bias to some degree, but I don't know anyone that has moved to digital art collecting personally - most that I know seem to have moved to hardcover collecting. Like some others, I struggle to detect what sense of satisfaction might be gained from participation in this corner of the hobby (just like I did with the modern variant crowd), but I generally try to be a proponent of whatever makes people happy in these type of instances. More power to them... as long as what is going on doesn't appear to be a complete scam.
  3. I thought that may be the case but wasn't sure - I didn't want to answer in a way that might have been rude
  4. No one is named Manhattan, Hickman used the ushering in of the Atomic Age and the atomic bomb-producing Manhattan Project as a springboard for his science (and scientists) run amok story. Hickman stays somewhat connected to the reality of the time by using actual scientists, politicians, and events from history (the JFK assassination etc). Nick, who I have seen bemoan years spent drawing sweaty old men , did great cartooning work designing characters for Feynman, Einstein, Fermi, and even administrative figures like Leslie Groves. The monthly is easily one of my favorite series of the last decade, I was disappointed when it went to a mini and completely unsurprised when it vanished shortly after that.
  5. I know a few people that follow third party graded video games and they're seeing a spike upward as well - some are confused by it, but it's also a relatively newer thing that reminds me of the initial community reaction to graded comics.
  6. MP is following a normal trend. The best pages are still sought out by collectors. The nice double-Einstein splash up just prior to this auction went for around $1500 - I think that is reasonable considering the hype that was around the book when the original bigger numbers were realised on initial drops. Also, as you mention, the fact that it is a 'dead' property (though I've heard multiple times that they'll revisit), and it is an indie that just trailed off after a final mini. I'm personally a big fan of Nick and would like to see him back on a monthly book. That would also probably bump his secondary market. He has what looks like some nice work in Immortal Hulk 33. Edit: corrected typos
  7. Tradd started out strong and has trended up in my opinion. However, I will add this subject matter suits his style better than anything else I've seen him work on including Venom and Luther Strode.
  8. Not Netflix, but YouTube - apologies if it was already posted elsewhere. There isn't anything shockingly groundbreaking here but its worth 30 minutes to most I imagine.
  9. It's beautiful art for sure. I personally don't bother with these timed drops anymore. Maybe if they implement a traditional checkout system (which would cause other problems for them as people put things in carts and perhaps don't finish the transaction) I'll try it out again. Just a personal preference I've arrived at.
  10. It's a nice page but I said 'pass' because OP started out by saying how it was wrong for their collection in a number of ways - basically it'd be an impulse buy that he already stated was way outside of his normal price range. Impulsebuys should not torpedo your budget - seemed an easy 'pass' from my perspective. Nothing at all against the artist, many would be happy to have the page at a subjectively affordable price.
  11. I thought it possible you may be a precocious 7 year old now
  12. I never said it was a secret, just that I personally was not reposting the link myself since I assumed it was edited out for some reason.
  13. A piece was linked. Likely the one in question. I won't repost it assuming it was asked to be removed.
  14. In response to the edit with your age, I'd hazard to guess most here trend older, but I bet some others might show up in their late 20s to 30s. Though I have read many are on FB art groups... personally, I won't touch that site. Welcome, and I hope you find what you're after!
  15. What are we talking about here, do you need someone to buy you beer or are you just looking for an older kid with a driver's license?
  16. No issues, she's very supportive, but relatively speaking, I spend peanuts and focus on keeping it in check. I'd be real surprised if most didn't find the level of pushback proportionate to how well or poorly they manage to keep within their means - or are we really looking for real tales of horror with this thread? Now to just wait for a similar thread asking female collectors if their husbands hate it (I'll be waiting awhile I think).
  17. That's a real bummer, I've been there. I don't even bother with these sales anymore, they always start in the middle of my EST work day and I'm typically in a meeting Grats to the winners, they're damn fast! Good luck to the OP on finding the pages they're after, Tradd does special work.
  18. I still like some of his work, I just really hate how the lifted faces tend to "jump" out of the images.
  19. Tell us how you really feel, don't hold back! For what it's worth, not a big Larsen fan either, but I'm still impressed and feel his longevity, and commitment to, Savage Dragon is an accomplishment. Especially in this day and age where creators are constantly moving on to the next thing at a quicker and quicker pace.
