  1. While I’m not the biggest fan of Haney as an adult, I must admit as a kid his stories were fun, and I always loved Aparo!
  2. I didn’t think that was the auction you were referring to in your comment. The link is actually to an auction that ended, but then eBay suggests a similar item, which is the one you are referring to.
  3. I don’t see any reference to color touch. Are you sure you aren’t looking at a different auction? eBay directs you to similar items now when you try to look at a completed auction.
  4. No, it‘s not a rare book. It’s how the supply compares to the demand that matters of course. But I think it’s hard to argue that the current spike in price is driven by demand from ”end users.” Its speculation driven, and it’s not like we haven’t been this route before.
  5. That would make sense, but two of the higher amounts seem to be standalone, ie there is no lower bid associated with the same ID. And one of them is the earliest bid. The $3400 bid right before the accepted one definitely seems to be a counteroffer.
  6. You mean if the item is still unsold, will it show offers so far? I believe so.
  7. Here’s a good way to see best offers: http://www.flippertools.com/tools/ebayOfferHistory/ebay-best-offer-actual-price.htm?itemId=173401406321
  8. That’s another good reason to enjoy a book (though it doesn’t really excite me). The difference is, a book that looks like it’s been enjoyed by many other readers doesn’t take me back to when the book came out. Maybe for those who got a lot of their comics second hand that’s more of an attraction?
  9. When you think about it, it makes sense. A comic which appears brand new takes you back to the time the comic came out. A yellowed, creased up comic does not.
  10. You’re wrong in assuming that the only reason people want high grade books is for investment. Some people just like things to be in nice condition.
  11. Just not true. Comics are just about the only thing I spend money on recreationally. I buy 9.6s and 9.8s of titles I am interested in (Bronze Superman books, etc.) simply because I enjoy high grade books. I have no expectation that they will appreciate in value, nor do I care. Even those buying 9.8s of major keys (not me) have reasons other than investment: pride of ownership, etc.
  12. I have had my eye on this book for six months. Finally this coupon brought it to a reasonable price point. I hope it’s as nice in hand as it looks!
  13. Finally a member of this club. Was looking for an attractive 9.4 for awhile. This copy is very nice except for the “serrated” right edge (that was discussed earlier in this thread). This defect doesn’t really bother me. In addition, the slab was all scratched up, but I experimented with cleaning it up using plastX, and the results were very good.
  14. FInally found a 9.4 ASM 300 I am happy with. Only real defect is the “serrated” edge cut, otherwise very nice. Slab was scratched up and ugly, but that plastX has it looking pretty spiffy again!
  15. I have a Detective 27 Famous First Edition inner cover framed and hanging in my living room where it is NOT receiving direct sunlight. Yet the red area behind the title is so faded after ten years that it looks awful. I don’t display anything of value or importance.
  16. I’ve been noticing lately that when I click on an auction for a CGC graded book, a lot of times a small stock photo of an ungraded copy is the first picture that comes up. It has happened over many different sellers, so it doesn’t seem like something the seller is responsible for. Does anyone know what the deal is?
  17. Amazing how even now there are still fairly mainstream comic covers that I’ve never seen!
  18. Team logos could not be used on Topps sets at this time (domestic or Mexican) because Fleer had exclusive rights to those logos. As for the 1977 Mexican set, not my area of expertise but here is an article on the subject. https://www.psacard.com/articles/articleview/9275/collector-profile-jim-ragsdale-conquering-1977-topps-mexican-football-card-set
  19. I know why my pics went bad...and I can easily fix it, except for some reason I can no longer edit my older posts. ?
