  1. When did all the pics in this thread go poof? Quite a shame ?
  2. Just picked up this beautiful 9.8 W Superman 268. Unfortunately the slab was ruining the eye appeal so I cracked it out. Honestly, I like the way these books look better in a mylite/fullback anyway ?
  3. Thanks for the input Bob, it it is definitely not paper loss, that is clear looking at it in hand. It is from a collection I bought in 1993 of books that were read once and handled carefully. It is a print defect which occurs frequently on sports cards like the one below. It actually doesn’t bother me much, and I’m keeping the book, I was just curious how it would affect the grade.
  4. I have a pretty nice ASM 101 that has white print dots on the cover. These are not foreign matter that could be removed, it is a printing defect. I’ve seen this a lot on sports cards, but it doesn’t seem to be as common on comics. Anyone know how CGC treats this?
  5. I’m the opposite way. I just had to spend $500 deductible repairing my car from a tree falling on it, and another $1200 to remove the tree and get the rest of it taken down. And all I can think of is the cool books I could have purchased with that money.
  6. I still don’t think I’ve ever broken $1000. I paid $900 for my IH 181 in 2000. I’ve never thought about it, but I’m kind of surprised the most I ever spent is 18 years ago.
  7. It won’t come off, it is some kind of a printing defect, it’s not foreign matter of any kind.
  8. Speaking of ASM 101, I have a nice copy but it has some white print dots on the cover. Anyone know how this is likely to affect the CGC grade?
  9. It will always work as long as it is one PayPal transaction. Description says: “Coupon must be used within a single transaction (and can include multiple eligible items)“
  10. Used the coupon, but hope I didn’t miscalculate. The item had a min bid of $120 with a buy it now of $200. Last sale was $180, so I figured by taking the buy it now and getting it for $170 I was eliminating the risk of losing it at auction and still getting a reasonable price. I’ll never know if I might have gotten it for less even without the coupon.
  11. I just browsed this thread for the first time, so forgive me if I missed something, but would every issue containing the MJ insert have the star on the cover? I know my Batman 309 has both insert and star. On the other hand, I have a World’s Finest 216 that has the insert, but I don’t remember ever noticing a star.
  12. I believe there was a Scanlens version of this set but I don’t know anything about it.
  13. Books were cut all kinds of different ways back then. Some have a white stripe on the spine, some have the front cover showing on the back. It doesn’t mean anything about resto as a rule.

  15. People who are passionate about their hobbies HAVE paid a ton for comic books for years: Action 1: $2.16 million Amazing Fantasy 15: $1.5 million Detective 27: $1.075 million X-Men 1: $493,000 ...and on and on. If you’re going to claim that a Hulk 181 9.2 is somehow undervalued, there has to be some quantification of that. It seems to me like you’re just mentioning dollar amounts, but dollar amounts much, much higher than $8000 have been paid for thousands of comics for years. What needs to be addressed is why this comic in this grade is undervalued.
  16. I’m not sure what you’re basing that on. A 1952 Mickey Mantle PSA 9 needs to be compared to Amazing Fantasy 15 in 9.4-9.6, not a 9.2 Hulk 181. I would not say that comics are undervalued compared to sports cards in general.
  17. The Layton cover Iron Mans are the only ones I’m interested in these days.
  18. @wormboy The current issue of PSA’s magazine has an article on this set...should be available online in the near future....
  19. Incredible. The supposed 9.4 looks much worse than that, it has numerous spine creases, a significant top edge impact, tanning and a back cover stain. What does the grade look like to you?
