I have never seen the term used either. It suggests as others have noted that the books cover isn't smooth - having a canvas like texture to the surface.
But CGC already has a term for that - pebbling. Where the book was improperly pressed and picked up the texture of whatever it was squished up against during pressing.Just now checked CGC's online Glossary. Pebbling is not listed there.

I wish one of us had the notes so we could specifically ask CGC but this is a case of a guy who knows guy who knows a guy.
The guy I know says he's checking directly with CGC tomorrow when the office is open again. I'll keep you posted.

I don't know but he may be submitting his books to CCS for a review. They will recommend whether the book can benefit from a press. Strange use of the term canvassing. Never heard it before in relation to CGC or comic books.
The person is a presser, so he doesn't send books to CCS. He says the term "canvassing" has popped up in grader notes on some books that are currently being shipped back to him.

A fellow collector in my state says he's been getting the grader note "canvassing" from CGC on a number of his books. There is no such term in the Glossary on the CGC site.
I suspect "canvassing" may be a new way to refer to pressed comics whose covers are not smooth. Anyone know for sure what "canvassing" means?

I need to get one of these so I can start selling some CGC comics. I have some duplicates, and some genres that I have lost interest in. Most are Golden Age - which it sounds like typically have more of a glare problem. I have searched ebay for all the models in the list above. This will have to go to my desktop computer with Windows 10. Here are some current options - anything look good?
HP 8300 NEW for $250
Microtek 9600 used for $175
HP 7400C - looks kind of beat up - for about $50
Or, I could wait for another Epson GT-15000 to come up - looks like they go for about $350 used.
Don't know about the other models, but I've been very happy with the HP ScanJet 8300 that I found on eBay a couple of years ago. It was "new old stock" still in the box, never opened or used. With VueScan software, it's been doing a great job on slabs, sometimes with a bit of glare, but not bad.

In poring over The Art of Glamour more carefully, I noticed a THIRD example of surviving Matt Baker cover original art. Page 107 shows the lower portion of the cover art for Authentic Police Cases #35, with a notation that it was found in Baker's files.

Oops! Forgot about that one. It's even on page 43 of The Art of Glamour.

This is the only surviving Matt Baker cover OA that I am aware of. Has anyone else ever seen Baker cover OA?

This is one "Baker" cover I have not yet purchased, and I may never. To me, it looks more like Chuck Miller, who drew eyebrows in such a way that characters appear to be constantly surprised. Miller did quite a bit of "Bakerish" (but substandard) art for St. John. Perhaps this is Baker inking Miller or vice versa.

Check again, I think they do credit both of those covers to Baker
You are correct, sir! Glamour does indeed credit both to Baker.

Anyone know how to contact Bart. First time going wanted to know if they send out badges or do you get them at the door. Sent an email over a week ago no response.
We don't need no stinking badges...OAFCON admission is FREE. (You probably will need to stop off for a name tag at the table out front, though.)

"Canvassing" in Grader Notes; Not in Glossary

Thanks. Many of us were aware of that already, but Pebbling nor Canvassing are listed in the glossary. Here's a link to the glossary. https://www.cgccomics.com/resources/glossary/
