  1. Here's one to get started.

    AIR FIGHTERS Vol 2 #8 (Hillman-Fall 1944) CGC 7.5 OW

I don't know who has the power to designate a WWII cover as “classic”, but I think this one is a classic. The distinctive John Guinta layout, art and color selection would make a great poster. Inside you'll find art by Rudy Palais, Tony DiPreta, Bob Fujitani and Gil Kane. Disregard the scanner glare. The logo coloring is dark and smooth.

  2.

First of all, thanks to those who purchased from me a few months ago AND for the nice Kudos. I've got another small variety of comic books for your browsing pleasure. The mix is wildly random.

1st “I'll Take It!” in the thread wins and trumps all private negotiations.

NOTE: To maintain an even playing field, a simple “take” (but nothing shorter) will do. Make sure to quote the book you are taking.

Payment by PayPal within 24 hours of invoice.

(To avoid confusion, please do not rescind your take or swap with others on the thread.)

Shipping in USA is $8 for a USPS Priority flat (up to 3 raw books) or $15 for a box (slabbed book or 4+ raws). For outside the U.S., PM me before taking.

No returns on slabbed books, but for raw contact me within three days of receipt and send it back on your dime in the same shape. Of course, if I missed something important I'll pay for return shipping.

    No probation listers or HOSers.

Does this book's title of Matt Baker: the Art of Glamour show all of his works?

I prefer to see all pictures of his works so I will buy it.

The Art of Glamour contains a lot of great Matt Baker artwork, but still only a small fraction of his output. Regardless, if you like Baker at all, you should own this book.

IIRC, after the book was pretty much done and ready for the printer, Shaun Clancy obtained an interview with one of Matt Baker's true friends Frank Giusto, who provided personal sketches that Matt had done for him. I think that chapter is the best in the book.

Also, The Art of Glamour features the most accurate and complete checklist of Baker's professional work. It gets a few things wrong, but has been much more reliable than Overstreet, which has in the past misattributed Baker artwork.

Some times this hobby breaks your heart. I've been searching for 2+ years now for a complete copy of Teen-Age Temptations 8, with absolutely no luck. Not a sniff of a lead anywhere, until last week. A copy pops up on Ebay, I win the auction. Book arrives today with a terrible, undisclosed trim along the right-edge and bottom :sorry:. Absolutely gutted, and the search resumes.

Like Rick & Robot said, there are many instances of miscut St. John books. Their quality control was poor. In the case of this particular publisher, I personally wouldn't assume a book is trimmed unless a pro restoration detector examines it in hand and says so.

All Picture Comedy Carnival - the entire 100 pages was Pictorial Romances 17.

Anyone else out there look through their giants and find something cool?

My copy of All Picture Comedy Carnival is full of crime comics remainders, but no Baker. Imagine buying your kid a book with a cute little cartoon girl on the front...and inside it's all crime and death!

Kind of surprising that such an experienced seller didn't seem to realize what he had.  Still got around FMV, imo. https://www.ebay.com/itm/362322029349?ul_noapp=true&autorefresh=true

A few days ago, I contacted the seller asking for photos and a description of what was wrong with the interior of this book. It's obvious from the rear cover scan that there is a jagged torn edge poking out at the side, and a page sticking out the top WITH ART ON IT. The seller responded that he would provide more photos...but he never did, so I didn't enter any bid. If there are torn siamese pages that affect the art, the grade will suffer greatly. That book is NOT a 6.0.

Now I'm thinking about CL 15's "love triangle" situation... does she choose the rich guy or the poor guy?  With the Cinderella "spin" in mind, which one makes more sense, I wonder...?

I think the guy in the tux is a poor dude in a rented suit. The other guy is obviously the rich one. He's wearing a rare YELLOW leather jacket and probably has an expensive hot rod parked nearby.

if the dates are Oct 6-7, 2018, then the event runs on the same days as 2018 NYCC.  I attended OAFCON 2017 and had a blast, except for the tornado.

As some of us say here in Oklahoma, any tornado that doesn't kill you is a good one!

While the crowd is in the mood to play Baker/not-Baker...any thoughts on this one?  Amazing Ghost Stories 15. CGC says Baker, art of glamour and JVJ do not credit it to him, although they do for AGS 14, and 16.  Looks like Baker to me, what am I missing?

Incidentally I really like this one whoever it was.  Love the rainstorm effect, the spooked horse, the fear in the eyes.  Just a great cover.  My cruddy photo doesn't do it justice, anyone else want to post a better pic of one.  Sqeggs are you squirreling away the 9.4?

    ags15gvg.jpg

    Yes, that is Baker.

  11. 3 hours ago, Sqeggs said:

Yeah, I know.  At some point somebody prevailed on CGC to put Baker on the label.  This is one of a handful of covers, like Jo-Jo 25, that are Iger Shop work that it's possible Baker worked on but that are more likely other artists aping his style.

For what it's worth, I agree.

  12. If you need yet more confirmation that Roger is a great guy to do comic book business with, here it is. I sold Roger some books via the forum last week. He paid promptly and is a great communicator. You couldn't ask for a better transaction.
