  1. Anyone know how to improve interview skills? Maybe a couple acting classes or something similar will get you more confident in front of people. I've always been good in an interview and it has helped me a lot more then a resume ever has. I'm going on the 17th to brush up on my interview skills and about acting I suck at it because I don't fake my emotions the only way I act is by getting into a memory that made me feel a certain way.
  2. Some college is better than no college, not sure why he'd tell you to take it off. I agree some college is better than none (shows a level of desire for further education. Maybe he thinks that showing that you "quit" college that it might cast you in a poor light (as someone who quits/gives up). I can see his perspective, especially since your resume as a whole doesnt show a lot of long term commitment... so why add to that narrative? (here's a though, were you in any clubs/activities for a long time? It might be good to include them somehow if possible on your resume to show that you CAN commit to something long term) keep the enthusiasm! I guess the only clubs I remember being in was soccer, seniors in cyberspace and badminton.
  3. Some college is better than no college, not sure why he'd tell you to take it off. Gabe, how long were you enrolled in college? Did you get one year in? Regardless, should probably trust the guy who does this for a living? I was there for about a year.
  4. Some college is better than no college, not sure why he'd tell you to take it off. He told me because I didn't complete it there's no point wasting other people time by having them look at it.
  5. Archie #4 update Apparently he's been on vacation on decided not to tell me an he said he's sending it on Saturday on as soon as as I get the comic I'll end the claim but I'll tell him to have better communication next time as having zero feedbacks was bad enough haha. Sold Comics ASM 361 Copy #4 Resume update I went to get resume help with my case worker and he noticed all your guys suggestions and he asked me who helped me with this and I said some nice people I know. He then told me to simplify it because you guys made my experience sound awesome haha but he said it will take him about 3 days since he'll take everything apart and use what he knows, what I've told him and your guys suggestions I'm excited to see my resume. He also said that my interview skills suck and because I didn't finish college I shouldn't put it on there. Also he said I should mark my highest education as grade 12 I was under the impression that checking that off doesn't specify if you got your diploma or not.
  6. a very high grade too nice score there's just something about high grade golden age archie comics I like
  7. They do have a awesome range of comics especially that bat232 <3
  8. That's awesome I need to get a job first though haha but yeah I've seen it on kijiji I never thought many people show up there.
  9. You could always allude to this in your followup call. "Wanted to thank you for the chance to sit and interview for the job. It was my first interview in a while, I think I was a littler nervous! Any way I'm very excited about the possibility of working with the team there, and I hope to hear back from you soon" I'll try that and see what he says.
  10. Thanks I did dress for success. Two things: 1. Follow up with the interviewer. Drop an email if you have his/her email contact, or call and leave a message. This is an "old school" expectation, that HR managers report is a dwindling practice. Thank them for the chance to interview, tell them it was nice meeting them, followup on some item that might have been outstanding or was left up in the air. Just a quick connection. It reiterates your interest in the job, and shows your professionalism. 2. Once you hear back from the hiring manager (about whether you got the job) ask for feedback. Treat this as constructive criticism. You have to be very polite about it because managers can be uneasy giving critique out of fear that it will create some conflict. Phrases like " Do you have an feedback on areas I should look to improve in my presentation or interview?" Or something along the lines of "can you share with me what the deciding factor was that determined who you chose to hire?" All of the information will help you refine your application process and make you a better applicant next time. Im keeping my fingers crossed for you! I'll do that thanks I thought they once you finish the interview you leave it at that till they call or email you back as sending a email back would appear overeager. Employers WANT eager and even overeager employees. I'll keep that in mind about being overeager.
  11. Interview update Not sure if I said this or not but I was really nervous during the interview and I kept screwing up what I wanted to say. Archie #4 Update The comic as I thought was a scam I was more hopeful and decided to give someone a chance so I'll be opening a case against him. Sold Comics ASM 361 CGC 9.8 Copy 4 Plans Sell my archie 320, ASM 300 and jla #1 Get my money back from the archie #4 call the po and see what's up with the comics I sent a while back

  13. Haha thanks I've seen some managers get paid well and others don't but I job I something I need anyway.
  14. Thanks I did dress for success. Wonderful, life is about becoming a better person and it sounds like you're making positive steps. There's so much to learn and I don't want to be stuck in one place the rest of my life which is why I want to change that.
  15. pay my taxes or fist yourself, Janet. You honestly can't comprehend how or why a Canadian tax payer would find this thread upsetting? And if you can't, I've outlined a path moving forward. No matter how upsetting this may be, telling someone to go fist themselves is uncalled for. Address the problem, not the spectators. You are 100% right. My comment was uncalled for. I love a good mea culpa, shows character. Anyone who feels otherwise can go fist themselves. And Gabe, I worked at a Burger Chef for a few years. There is no shame in working a crappy job but there is shame in working that job crappily. Do a good job if they hire you even though it will be unattractive work. Thanks though they must be desperate because they moved the interview earlier. Not nearly as desperate as you should be at this point. Agreed.

You're right I did but those comics aren't for me.

  18. Haha thanks if I don't get this job I'll keep applying to them till I get one and yes I'll have something nice on.
  19. Yes I believe they raise how much I'm allowed to earn every month by 100 and she said something about buying and receiving gifts but I paid attention to how much income I'm allowed to make and next time I'll see her I'll ask again because she said you can get gifts up to 8000 cash or valuables.
  20. I sold a few of my bigger comics and wanted to buy some this time at a better price unlike the other times. WTF!?? You "wanted" them! You wanted, you took, and then instead of taking any spare cash you had and saving it or using it to get a job, you spent it on expensive luxuries and then handed your bills to your fellow Canadians to pay. Congratulations. And THAT right there is YOUR own personal "cycle of poverty" that began and will continue with YOU and only you. Own it - your poverty and your lack of a job is all yours (along with a Tec 359 you didn't pay for - enjoy getting what you "want" for free) As I said to you long ago - Poverty and welfare have almost nothing to do with lack of money - in almost all cases, it's the consequences of one's continual string of bad choices. The truth is - you're choosing to remain poor and on welfare. There is no "cycle" - there is only a straight line path to perpetual poverty made by you hour by your, and day after day. Hell, even if you GOT a job tomorrow and could actually keep it, your habits, choices and character you show off in this thread means you'll be probably living paycheck-to-paycheck (or welfare-check to welfare-check) for the rest of your life because of stupid mess like this. This is like an addiction for you isn't it? It's like you're just incapable of just not buying luxuries (like expensive comics). Stop. Just stop. Unbelievable. I have a problem with gambling if that's what you mean and I'm not sure how you stop it. When I went to get welfare I had 200 dollars left over the funny thing is people gave me money to hold onto and I never spent it because it's theirs not mine. My decisions get me into a lot of trouble and I do need to change what I'm doing so I have a therapist in training helping me. If you are gambling whilst on welfare, you are in big trouble. That is madness. I agree it's not good but I'll ask about it I know they keep raising my limit of how much money I can earn and she also mentioned buying but I'll ask again about it.
  21. Albert Einstein Well, at least we know you can use google. Congratulations. I do know how to use google but I know this because I like quotes.
