  1. Yes it has. Not by a lot but just give it some more time. Yes I was reading about that and how sports cards fell in value but you can make money with this.

I also hear that you, er... one can also make money selling comicbooks too.

I made money one time by going to college, learning some skills, studying to get a certification, then getting a job. Yes I will be paying $100 per month for the rest of my life in student loans. So I guess it didn't work out? Except I'll probably make at least 4.5x more than $100 per month for the rest of my life?

And I heard about this one guy who grew up in Italy and moved to Philly for high school, then was drafted to play basketball by Hornets and was traded to the Lakers. He was accused of rape and blew up Shaq's spot, but later won a bunch of NBA Championships.

I know this other guy who was born and raised in Philadelphia. I believe on the playground is where he spend most of his days. He got in one little fight and his mom got scared and was subsequently sent to live with his auntie and uncle in Bel-Air, California.

I heard about this other guy from Canada, half-Jew/half-black. He speaks slowly and softly to the beat about how he can't tell girls how he feels about them while rooting for any and every basketball team. He makes money somehow too.

I know the third one is Will smith and that's it. You say you have a debt that you'll be paying for the rest of your life so why not pay it all off at once? I'm sure they charge you interest on it. And like you guys have taught me it could be money better spent elsewhere.

    1) Kobe Bryant

    2) Fresh Prince of Bel Air - AKA Will Smith

    3) Drake

Now school him on student loans.

Well not that I know who he is I take it back but just because you're rich doesn't mean you know how to spend it wisely, there are many celebrities that went bankrupt and broke so I applaud him for not being stupid with money.

  3. It took him 6 months to sell that book? Eeek.

Well, he gave two different numbers for how much it cost him (first was $108, then it was $116) and seeing the utterly convoluted and incomprehensible mess he made in explaining how much he spent shipping and how much the buyer paid and how he repeatedly changed the terms of the shipping costs on the buyer and who would pay what, I have zero confidence in any numbers being put forth here.

    hm

That's because I needed to get all the numbers straight that's why it changed it again.

You should have had the numbers straight before you gave your buyer a quote for shipping. Also, once you gave the buyer a quote, you should have honored that price. That's how reputable people conduct business.

I agree I will do that next time.

You constantly make stupid mistakes and keep saying you'll improve on it. Maybe that's why you can't keep a job because the things you're doing is really common sense stuff. The way you handled that last sale was unprofessional. Going back and forth on the shipping was shady because it seemed like you were getting greedy. You were lucky he didn't back out of the transaction.

Yes I do make stupid mistakes that are common sense and I've said that many times already. I'm lucky he didn't back out and I wasn't getting greedy I just realized mistake with shipping in the last minute.

  4. So, Gabe, thinking of getting into the sports card game?

With the bottom dropping out of video games I'll keep an eye on it but I want to try sports cards and I have a friend that might let me sell some of his cards. I also used to sell yugioh cards before.

Why would your friend have you sell his sports cards when you know nothing about sports cards?

pretty easy to figure that one out - drek!

Boxes of cards that are not worth someones time as they have more profitable ventures - could be easily handed over to Gabe. Why not?

If I had someone like him in my area - I would be putting them to work helping clear out low value books.

Yes, that's what it would start with. He says that he has lots of 10 dollars cards and he doesn't have time to list them and once I prove I can sell those I'll get his higher end stuff. He said he'll put in a couple higher end cards just to see how I'll do with them.

How is the bottom dropping out on video games?

Because GABE is not making any money at it; therefore, the bottom has dropped out.

    It is pretty scientific dontchyaknow?

    :P

    That's not it at all.

How is the bottom dropping out on video games?

It's not. Nothing has changed. You know where the bottom really fell out? Sports cards. And it was years ago.

Yes it has. Not by a lot but just give it some more time. Yes I was reading about that and how sports cards fell in value but you can make money with this.

How is the bottom dropping out on video games?

On games in general, people have skyrocketed the price of video games for a while and they're beginning to normalize. For example I had a bunch of gamecube games that would hold value but within a month they lost 100 dollars in value. I have people I'm friends with as well saying their stores aren't making as much as they used to as well.

Why would your friend have you sell his sports cards when you know nothing about sports cards?

He said I can take my time with them and it's just research I would need to do on them. He knows my situation because I told him and he said he doesn't have time to play around with listings.

  11. How would you return it? Buyers remorse is not a good reason to return a book.

While good you made some money you did get a little lucky. You are lucky you found a buyer but when you have time to spam 100 Facebook groups you are going to find someone. You also got lucky again when the buyer didn't back out over the shipping cost debacle. Is a $50 profit on a book nice? Sure. Is it anything to use to brag over though? No.

What are you currently in the hole for now?

It's 87.09 in profit to be exact :) That's how I usually sell things, I post in as many groups as I can and if it doesn't go fast enough I put it on kijiji or ebay. I wouldn't say bragging but I've said before you don't give chances to the same comics as I do, sure it wasn't the quickest flip but $87.09 in profit is good.

$1097.71 Is the hole I'm in for now.

  12. Ok give me a few minutes and which comic are you interested in?

    Batman 189

Ok I'll get you the update in a couple min I'm just eating right now

    :eyeroll:

Nothing says 'professional' like telling a customer you're putting them on hold until you finish your bowl of capt. crunch.

It's also nice to see the proper use of punctuation and spelling in that exchange that several have urged Gabe to adopt, which is another thing on the list of things he is "working on".

Well I must be doing a better job if I haven't seen you complain about it otherwise ;)

Not at all, it just became clear that that advice, as with everything else that didn't come from your friend with the golden recommendations, was falling on deaf ears.

Ah I see, it's not like I ignore everything that's been said to me, but I'm happy I didn't return the bat 189 like the boardies told me to because I sold it under 6 months and for a profit.

    Nice punctuation and grammar.

And yes, nothing like a minor success to reinforce your perception that you know what you're doing and the collective board wisdom is wrong. Good luck to you.

Thanks. You know what I mean, I'm happy because I listened to my gut on this one and I was right, the research helped but I was beginning to doubt myself and wanted to return the comic like you guys said.

I told him that because some people I've dealt with get impatient and think I'm ignoring them.

  16. Why are you buying more modern variants though? I am referring to the Doctor Aphra? Do you have "a thing" for her?

It's low cost and easy to flip in most cases and after the Animosity #3 Harambe Variant I decided to take another shot but I check the print runs and prices before I decide if I want it or not. I don't have a "Thing" for her it's just buying and flipping to start finally making money.

  17.

Thanks. For the scale can it be any digital scale as long as it's accurate?

Yeah anything like this should do you fine Gabe.

    https://www.amazon.ca/s/ref=nb_sb_ss_c_1_6?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=postal+scale&sprefix=postal%2Caps%2C288

You just want it accurate and with a high enough capacity for larger packages.

    Thanks

I got mine from Staples. It is a DYMO Model M10. Capacity 10lbs/4500g. Draws power from your laptop or PC. Super easy to operate. Just watch the online sales and/or flyers and get one on sale if $ is a concern.

Seriously, a scale could have saved you a lot of trouble and if you are going to be selling, it is a good tool to have.

    Thanks I'll check it out.

  18. Comic Plan

So I was asked a while back what comics I wanted to sell and when, though I didn't do it for all I prioritized some I want to sell in the next 30-45 days if I can

#1) IH 180 CGC 5.0 SS Stan Lee

    2) Fantastic Four 53 CGC 7.0

    3) Daredevil 257 CGC 9.8

The Second Category is comics that I don't mind waiting for 2-3 months to sell

    1) Betty and me 16

    2) New Gods 7

    3) NYX 4

    4) Doctor Aphra #1 Set

  19. Gabe is damned one way or another.

    lol

That kind of happens when you don't know what you're doing. (shrug)

Yeah it was a bit of a mess next time I'll do it better

Good job on making some profit on that book. If you are going to keep selling invest in a digital mailing scale so you can give immediate and accurate shipping quotes.

You are lucky the buyer didn't walk away as the cost of shipping kept going up. Some may have gotten annoyed with that and wanted out.

The back and forth regarding the shipping charges was not very professional. I think if he stated he would send the book out for $210 shipped then he should have stuck to that. I know he could care less for advice from boardies since he thinks he knows what he is doing and every mess is just another "i'll do better next time" type experience but after a couple years of this when is he actually going to do better?

Yes I agree I should have gave him the quote from the get go instead of doing it in parts that's something I'll keep in mind.
