Very happy to find a beautiful, reasonably priced copy of MTU #1. Big thanks to Superworld! In the process, also got MTU #95. Only 28 issues to go to complete my MTU run. (Yes, I'm a completionist…) Good thing is all expensive issues are now in hand. I trace my interest in MTU back to a Treasury Size Spiderman from the late 70's. The X-Men crossover (#4) reprinted in spiked my curiousity. But that was about it. I only bought a few issues back in the day. It was only when I started collecting again in 1994 that I focused a bit more by buying #4. Dabbled a bit and then won the Greggy Mystery Box which added almost 50 issues! And, there we have it. Excelsior!

Last Sunday I decided to go looking for some smaller books for my collection. Additionally, I wanted to buy some books that struck me at the moment, like I did as a kid. LOL Spent about $90 but am happy. The Marvel Premiere was one I owned fresh off the newsstand back in the day but got rid of in the mid-80's. The FF Annual and Giant Size were totally spur of the moment and prices I couldn't pass up. Most of these were plugging holes in the collection or upgrades. Fun to just buy on impulse at times...

Went to a used bookstore on a whim today. Had comics but most were 1990’s and later. But I did find some OSPG. This was the oldest and only $5 so, what the heck. I’d love to jump in the Comic Time Machine to get my X-Men #1 grail for $25 in Mint. Or GSX #1 for .80 cents...

At this one, I thought about what is was like in the late 90’s at this show. The lines were shorter, easier to approach celebrities and there were more dealers. I kind of miss that. But on the flip side, there is cooler, unique artwork. I remember walking up to James Doohan, Frank Gorshin, Bernie Wrightson... No lines. I regret not getting Wrightson’s autograph or a signed print.

Just noticed I've been visiting for 15 years. Where did the time go. In that 15 years, my collection has more than tripled in size and value. I've completed personal grails like owning the entire runs of Justice League, Conan and DC Comics Presents. I've acquired books like Flash #123 and GL #76 which I thought would never happen. Naturally, I'm not a prolific member but I enjoy reading the posts, seeing books, etc. Maybe most importantly, I've learned a lot about grading and am a better collector for it. Thank you for letting me participate all these years!

Well, the show was bigger in footprint and I was pleasantly surprised. That said, all my go to's were at Megacon. No Dale, no Bob Storms. But Langes and Big Ben's were there so I got some nice books at great prices. Many are run fillers. The Iron Man was a nostalgia purchase, though in beautiful shape! I had Iron Man #11 as a kid and I thought it was special as it was from the 60's... Got rid of it over 30 years ago in college when I had quit from 1984 - 1994. Same goes for Daredevil #181. Bought it new but got rid of it in 1986. My only critiques of the show is that they aren't as organized as they could be. Advanced ticket holders waited in way too long of a line. But if you were buying tickets that day, you walked right in. I'll gladly pay $5 more to not have to wait in a 1 hour line outside. The other note was Motor City Comics itself. What I saw of their presence was what they used to bring to their local Saturday show. Kind of pathetic if this is "your" show. I usually find them over-priced but have bought a handful every now and then. This time, I was thinking of giving them some business, but their booth was nothing special. They were probably at Megacon is my guess. Overall though, fun and I checked off a lot of my Want List. Thanks for letting me share.

Only a 40 minute drive for me. Might be interesting to check some others out. My challenge will be I trust Dale and Bob's grading.

Nice. This cover art looks like it was Neal Adams plus someone else. The girl and guy holding hands looks like Adams but the two vampires don't at all.

I heard Motor City Show is up for sale?

Didn't think I'd be able to make it to Motor City this year but some plans changed. So, I'll probably go as I've only missed it once in the last 25 years. That said, no Dale Roberts or Bob Storms. I think Megacon is pulling the larger dealers away.

Thanks for letting me share! Always nice to see the talent on the Boards. This is essentially our "Gallery". I mentioned on the General site that this is my 2nd X-Men drawing. First was in 2012. (Probably buried in here somewhere) I was a late 70's X-Men fan and loved the Claremont/Byrne era. Stopped collecting new issues back in the mid-80's but I've since bought a number of them. I missed out on the Lee era and the X-Men (multiple covers time frame.) Have about half of the SA issues.
