  1. Several years ago, I tried to find out information on the Christian Anti-Communism Crusade (Publisher of Double Talk and Two Faces of Communism). I tried to get hold of Fred Schwarz (author of You Can Trust the Communists to be Communists) at P.O. Box 890, Long Beach, CA 90801-0890. If memory serves me, my letter requesting information was undeliverable. Maybe you wil have more luck in locating information regarding your purchases.
  2. Very interesting for us anti-Communist collectors, I hope Overstreet takes note of your discovery and amends the price guide to reflect the two versions.
  3. According to Moondog, there are only two Superman ashcans known to exist. The 9.0 has changed hands a few times (last sold on Heritage in April 2004). He still own the 7.5. I think the 9.0 went for around $34K
  4. Esquire, The quantity and quality of you anti-communist collection is striking. I am most impressed. I never heard of “IT'S TIME FOR REASON NOT TREASON.” Good pickup. I have seen copies of "From Yalta to Korea" but it is still on my open list since I am waiting for a high grade slabbed copy to surface. I have seen only the glossy cover version of “Two Faces of Communism” up close. I do know that Overstreet shows the other version in their price guide. Since you have the two versions, was the glossy version just a cover added? I would think the insides are exactly the same.
  5. I am still mystified that DTA never changed the description on the ZIP #44 (Item number: 6544202273) auction, when it was brought to his attention that the “violent depiction of Archie on the cover” was an incorrect statement. It is certainly within the realm of possibility that his statements to you may not have been entirely accurate.
  6. If a consignor is doing his job, there should be some cost involved in negotiating a sale. Advertising or listing fees, long distance telephone calls, mailing fees, etc. DTA may have been holding out believing he had Ian under his thumb or the consignee may have refused to budge on the amount he/she was willing to accept but, nonetheless, if a consignor is worth his/her weight, he/she would have put forth some expense to make a sale. If there was no effort by DTA to make a sale, then he would not have been carrying out his end of the deal.
  7. Congratulations Ian. I knew you would get the NA26 with out paying extortion-like rates. DTA was correct when he stated “Properly priced Golden Age is a hot commodity, and proper pricing is the key." I still periodically look at the previously posted pics of your comics. I am most impressed with your collection.
  8. I was going through this thread and I notice something I previously wrote was in error. It was brought to my attention, by this forum, that there is only one version of "Blood is the Harvest" since the word "fire" was penciled on the cover for the book sold in 2003. I just wanted to clear up this misunderstanding.
  9. Tired of that book yet? Just send me a pm. My copy is looking for a companion.
  10. You are putting together a pretty impressive collection. I believe the numbers are as high as ten copies for this version. I still would love to see the back. All of the books have an explanation on the back but the narratives differ on some variants. The real identifier is the distributor or organization that sponsored the book. This is written on the bottom in big bold letters. If the copy does not have this, then it very well may be the “explains comic book” version. One of these days, I should scan all of the variants for reference purposes.
  11. Esquire, Is that the Impact Press variant of the Red Iceberg?
  12. Sweet Book Bonds25 It looks better than my last posting.
  13. Hopefully someone with a better memory could correct me if I am wrong but I heard that someone (a priest?) brought, into a convention, the five black and white copies with a handful of the color versions. The copies were from the Catechetical Guild files in Minnesota. I don't remember if Sparkle City played a role in this find.
  14. You are correct that there is a dearth of information in regards to these historically significant books. I believe that Phil Levine, out of NJ, has the largest collection of Catechetical Guild material. I would love to find out what he can offer on the subject. I like your website but you have one minor error. Overstreet notes there are thirteen known color copies of “Blood is the Harvest”. I believe the actual number would be higher but still less than twenty copies. Keep me in mind, if you want to sell some of your Atomic War books.
  15. I just picked this book up. WDC&S #68
  16. I just won this auction today. My daughter loves the cover.
  17. Scrooge, You ask an interesting question. When I first started collecting circa 1981, I purchased about everything that appealed to me. When I married, I realized that my financial resources were limited so I decided to focus on some Harvey runs (Baby Huey Duckland, Tuff Ghosts, Sad Sack, Tracy, Dagwood, Blondie and some Richie Rich titles). I also decided to focus on an underappreciated area being anti-Communist comics. I have been actively searching for these books for over twenty years and I do not think I will ever complete the collection. The chase to find an aesthetically pleasing book, at a good value, is more important than trying to reach closure on my pursuits. If I did finish this genre, I would gravitate toward related issues such as Atomic Bomb themed comics or I would complete other Harvey titles. Here is today's purchase towards my main interest. I know that 1956 may fall into silver age but I don’t lurk into that thread too often.
  18. Impressive book Esquire The best I can do at the moment are some books that are out of season.
  19. Thanks for the information. There were some interesting covers that I have never seen before.
  20. We seem to be chasing the same items as I lost out on that book
  21. Surfer, Nice Cap #216. Eventually, I will have one of each pedigree but i don't have a Winnipeg. Not knowing about this pedigree, what are the oldest book in the collection?
  22. It has been a good week for me. I just knocked one more Blondie off my list.
