  1. After seeing that 60 finish price, it made me feel pretty happy I got the Don / Maggie when I did. That cover is stellar though. One of the best in the run.

I was just behind you on the Don/Maggie auction and it seemed already too expensive because a 9.8 sold around $1750 on ebay in late 2013 and a 9.6 sold around $1400 on CLink in early 2014.

With these last sales, it does not seem expensive at all and the Don/Maggie copy looks way more beautiful than the other copies.

  2. Bummer! Really wanted the Showcase #60 in tonight's CL auction, but it went higher than expected.

That was a nice copy. I guess a few people thought so as well, and bid it up

A better one will come along :wishluck:

I bid on this Showcase #60 too.

It is the fourth time in a year and an half I am outbid for a Showcase #60 (and was the highest bid behind the winner twice)...

    :sorry:

  3. Hats off to Joey for back to back finishes. :applause::applause:

At least I made it interesting. (thumbs u

Thanks to both of you, it made the registry more interesting that it has been for years ! ;)

Well, there is nothing left to buy now for others Showcase collectors but it was really fun !

    :)

    Congratulations to Joey :golfclap:

  4. I though it was a shoo-in for a 6.0, but I guess not. hm

There's a light stain on the back cover I posted it all before,

don't want to waste any more thread real-estate on this.

Looked like a 6.0 but stains usually get the grade down...

BTW Boba, is the #16 newly listed on CLink yours ? Thought you listed it on ebay.

  5. A few silver and bronze age books for sale among copper books in my Misc. thread.

  6. Just completed my last task of 2014 : add a Challengers issue to my Showcase collection.

Next objective should be to buy a Lois Lane (last character I don't have one showcase issue) but it may be difficult.

Nice issues can be found : there has been nice #9 for sale this year. I remember a nice CGC 7.0 with a fair price (Boba ?) ;)

I will have to sell a lot of my collection to buy this one anyway :)

  7. Not in hand yet but I won this on Clink. Don't see this book too often.

.... I always thought this was a Moreira cover..... it's still a great one, nonetheless ....... to me this is where the SA really begins. GOD BLESS...

I never paid much attention to the dialogue on the cover to MGA #1, but upon closer inspection, it's a definite tip-of-the-hat to one of the greatest movies EVER made:

The Wages of Fear (1953). If you haven't seen it, I won't ruin it. I caught it once by chance on late-night TV about 25 years ago and couldn't believe what I was seeing. Subsequently, it was screened a few times in my local art-house cinema. Truly timeless, beautiful cinematography, brilliant, and category-defying every step of the way. Just see it.

Great book ! It's the first time I see MGA #1, thanks for sharing !

The reference to the Clouzot movie seems obvious, a wonderful movie.

  8. Incredible. When I think about the effort involved in amassing this collection I am in awe. I really wonder if this would have been possible before the internet ? Congrats !

You got that right! (thumbs u

When I never even saw some of these books in this run when I collected DC's back in the 60's and 70's.

The internet opens up a world of possibilities. :acclaim:

Congratulations, like Bomber-Bob I am really in awe . :applause:

I am very surprised when you say you had to wait for the internet to complete such a run.

From the other side of the Atlantic, collecting in the US seemed so much easier... well, I was wrong ! doh!

  9. Has anyone read the second book? Any good?

The second part (2nd and 3rd books of the french edition) is different of the first book : it talks about another train called "Crève-glace" (maybe translated "Ice-piercer") with other characters.

In fact, the writer of the first book died and the new one had a very different approach.

Graphism is very different (wonderful painted black and white) wich gives a more "blurred and moody" atmosphere.

Interesting to read if you like science-fiction comic books.

  10. With the acquisition of a #54 Sunday night, I technical have completed the 1 to 61 Showcase run. I need to get 3 of them graded so I can put them into my registry, but I can honestly say I did it

I remember how hard it looked like when I first started, so I'm pretty stoked I made it this far.

    Congratulations ! That's a great news. :golfclap:

I hope you will update your registry board soon so I can see all of your fantastic run ! ;)
