Thoughts on Stocks and Coronavirus and Comics
VintageComics replied to sfcityduck's topic in Comics General
You'd be surprised. A lot of people use the shower after going to the bathroom. And many cultures don't use the same bathroom practices that the West does. But if you really want to get down to the nitty gritty (I read about and studied the colon for years) if your body is tuned and working properly, you really shouldn't even need much toilet paper. -
Has the Corona virus affected any cons yet?
VintageComics replied to Quicksilver Signs's topic in Comics General
Another thing to remember is that apparently, in Italy people who DON'T have Coronavirus are dying because there is not enough care to tend to everyone, so patients are being triaged to see who has a better chance of surviving whatever ailment they are suffering from and those who have a small chance of survival are not being treated as effectively That is the REAL elephant in the room. The resources that this virus is sucking up from what society can provide in such a short period of time. The narrative 'flatten the curve' should be the narrative on all headlines. Slow down the infection rate so that the medical industry can effectively treat those that need treatment and not have to turn anyone away. -
Has the Corona virus affected any cons yet?

The reality is that there are WAY more cases than have been confirmed. The sooner we accept that, the sooner we can get back to recovery as a society. I wouldn't be surprised if there were 1000's of unconfirmed cases in each country. Especially in countries that are barely testing. -

It`s crazy but for some reason tp is the hot item. I picked up 4 rolls today. lol. You guys realize you can wash in the tub. Toilet paper is not a necessity. Now running water is. If that stops, then the great extinction event begins. -

Whaaat? I thought it was about 8 times as deadly, not 35 times as deadly. Where did you get this info? -
Amazing Adventures #14 CGC 9.8 OWW - stunning copy. Kind of a difficult book to price because of limited sales data. The Suscha News 9.6 copy just sold for $400. Census numbers for #13 and #14 are exactly the same in 9.8 (5 copies each) while census copies for #15 are much higher in 9.8 (19 copies) so I factored both in. Asking $1000 shipping included

Shipping: Certified books, shipping is included FREE within North America, ROW we split it. Raw books, include $10 for shipping within North America. ROW I will split with interested parties. Who wins: Time stamp seals the deal as to who wins regardless of the form of communication (including PM, in the thread, text or phone conversation). A negotiation is not a deal until both sides have agreed on terms. If there is an unconditional posted (or communicated) it will trump all negotiations unless we have already both agreed to terms before the was posted. In that case, the will have been in vain. Except that it will give you street cred and look cool to passers by. No House Of Shame or Probationary members or any others of ill repute. Returns: I am considered a very good grader among my peers ( Here is a link to my kudos thread ) but since even CGC is inconsistent I will not guarantee a CGC grade. I will guarantee to be within one grade increment in either direction - so if I am calling the book a 9.4 it could go 9.2 or 9.6. If it falls outside of those parameters (and it does happen that they go in both directions), I will offer a refund. But I don't expect anyone to complain if I undergraded it. I will accept returns if item is otherwise not as described. Consider all books pressed. Pricing: I try to price books close to fair market value. I am open to offers but it's not very likely I'm going to be accepting offers at 30% off fair market value.

Thoughts on Stocks and Coronavirus and Comics
VintageComics replied to sfcityduck's topic in Comics General
What's happening in Italy is that because it was so contagious and so many people have entered the medical system for help, doctors are being forced to choose who to help and who not to help, and they have mandates to treat those with a better chance of survival. That means if your mother has a smaller chance of surviving, she's left to die. That's why there is urgency. Because the flu is spread over several months and the medical system is generally prepared for it. This is all happening at once, is new, is possibly more contagious and deadly than the flu and so the medical system is in danger of being overwhelmed and having many more people die than need to. The point of the quarantines is not to stop the virus. You likely won't be able to stop it. It's to slow down the spread of it so that the medical community can cope with it and everyone that needs treatment can receive it. -

Because apparently this is much more contagious and 8 times more lethal. And because it's happening quickly. -
Has the Corona virus affected any cons yet?

The number of infections began to plateau in China a few weeks after extreme measures were taken to limit social contact. I'm guessing that is what the rest of the world is now trying to do. Limit infections by limiting contact. -

The US is apparently not testing for it in anywhere near the numbers that all other countries are. So that 1400 number is pretty much meaningless. Also some experts are saying transmission is primarily being done through breathing and not necessarily touch, so good luck in trying to avoid it. -
So, Why Has AF #15 Continued to Drop In Value?
VintageComics replied to KEY ISSUES Comics's topic in Silver Age Comic Books
This is worth discussing as it's a common misconception about CV-19 that people are worried about getting the virus. Sure everyone is worried, but chances are that most people WILL encounter the virus just like most people will encounter other viruses like the flu. The majority of the risk is not to everyone's health. The majority of the risk is to those who have other, previous underlying health problems and the elderly. Most people will ride it out and recover, but the weak and infirm who won't fight it off easily are at greater risk. And the majority of the risk is that the medical industry gets so overwhelmed that it won't be able to treat everyone and so will have to divert efforts to younger patients who have a better chance of recovery and withhold medical care to those that may have a smaller chance of recovery. So what the battle plan is really, is to slow down the spread of the virus as much as possible over as long a period of time as possible so that the medical industry can tackle patients. -
Has the Corona virus affected any cons yet?

Yes. And the sooner everyone starts practising good habits the sooner this pandemic ends. It can end in a matter of weeks if people take it seriously. That's how long it took to slow down growth in China once it was identified. It's just a temporary thing. I would expect things to bounce back within a few weeks once we have a better handle on it and stuff to resume later in the year. I'd guess and say that most people will likely get it (or come into contact with it) no matter what we do, but the point is to slow down the spread so that people who need medical attention can receive it. Prolong it if you will. Like I said, the sooner everyone starts taking appropriate measures, the sooner we recover and bounce back. Every day counts, every person counts at this point. -

VintageComics replied to Quicksilver Signs's topic in Comics General
I think most people think the worst part of the pandemic is that they might get the virus themselves. That seems to be the perception coming from the NBA as I watch the suspension of the season unfold. It isn't. The narrative everywhere needs to be this: It may not be serious for most people but it might be serious to those who can't receive medical attention if the medical industry becomes overwhelmed, which is already happening in some places. The quickest way to end this impact both economically and health wise is for everyone to just self quarantine and practice cleanliness practices. If everyone does that immediately the virus can immediately be slowed down and return to normal can happen as soon as possible. -

Correct. The concern is not whether you or I will get Coronavirus. It's whether the medical system will be able to handle an increase in infections. In Italy professionals are being recommended to not treat the elderly and focus on the young, which have a larger chance of survival. Imagine that. So the concern is not being able to treat everyone effectively during a pandemic. So hopefully people start taking precautionary measures proactively. I stopped shaking hands a week ago. More hand washings, avoiding public places if possible, being wary of touching surfaces and my face, etc. The sooner everyone starts, the sooner we get back to normal. -
Market correction , will we see any effect on comics?
VintageComics replied to WolverineX's topic in Comics General
Actually, it's probably most related to mandatory tax collection and bidders paying less for their comics to compensate for increased taxes. I would peg that as the primary reason. -

As CV 19 will likely be one day. I see this is a great opportunity for people to change bad habits. I've never liked shaking hands and I've stopped doing it. This was a great reason to. I understand but people were still dying from Flu or H1N1 and nobody has been panicking. Just a few simple hygene changes will do more to slow down CV 19 than anything else.
