  1. This is a key issue but you need the rare variant to top your collection off.
  2. So, if a group of people disagree that blue is blue then it's no longer blue? Edited because maybe I misunderstood you. I understand that my grail doesn't have to be your grail but it should be limited to something extraordinary and unrepeatable. Like someone stated above about the art world, you can't have a new grail every week. Words have meanings for a reason and the word grail (which comes from the historical 'Holy Grail') used to mean something truly epic. Not something light or easily obtained. That has now been watered down to mean everything is epic if someone thinks it's epic. Kind of like the 'everyone gets a trophy' mentality so nobody feels left out. Personally, I've always believed that a grail can only be one thing because that is what the word traditionally meant. It's only in recent years that there is a such a thing as 'multiple grails'. It would be interesting to see the demographic (age) of the people who disagree on the use of the word grail.
  3. Thank you. I have a 2nd copy of ASM #301 CGC 9.6 available if anyone is looking for a copy. I've edited the photo in my listing to show the 2nd copy.
  4. The word grail hearkens back and has it's root in the 'Holy Grail' that so much has been written about. It was nearly impossible to obtain and highly desirable and so has been the object of many searches through the ages. Most noobs now consider anything a grail that they want until they get distracted by the next 'grail'. Squirrel meet nut. They're obviously not grails since they are so soon chasing another. And so traditionally, it's usage is wrong. My grail always was Marvel Comics #1.Since I was a teenager. I owned one and may never own one again but will continue to consider it my only grail. In recent times that word has been watered down (especially since the age of the internet) to mean almost anything you want to obtain. The usage is totally wrong but we all know that if you apply enough pressure, and enough people accept it, the wrong usage can be accepted. Words change their meanings over time. I attribute it to the internet and everyone needing to take 15 minutes of fame by pronouncing that they've found a 'grail'...only to chase another soon after.
  5. Uncanny X-men #266 CGC 9.6 White (subbed this hoping for a 9.8) Asking $150 (shipping included) SOLD!
  6. Shipping: Certified books, shipping is included FREE within North America, ROW we split it. Raw books, include $10 for shipping within North America. ROW I will split with interested parties. Who wins: Time stamp seals the deal as to who wins regardless of the form of communication (including PM, in the thread, text or phone conversation). A negotiation is not a deal until both sides have agreed on terms. If there is an unconditional posted (or communicated) it will trump all negotiations unless we have already both agreed to terms before the was posted. In that case, the will have been in vain. Except that it will give you street cred and look cool to passers by. No House Of Shame or Probationary members or any others of ill repute. Returns: I am considered a very good grader among my peers ( Here is a link to my kudos thread ) but since even CGC is inconsistent I will not guarantee a CGC grade. I will guarantee to be within one grade increment in either direction - so if I am calling the book a 9.4 it could go 9.2 or 9.6. If it falls outside of those parameters (and it does happen that they go in both directions), I will offer a refund. But I don't expect anyone to complain if I undergraded it. I will accept returns if item is otherwise not as described. Consider all books pressed. Pricing: I try to price books close to fair market value. I am open to offers but it's not very likely I'm going to be accepting offers at 30% off fair market value.
  7. Just one book. Thor #337 CGC 9.8 White Newsstand (UPC) variant Asking $400 (shipping included)

  9. Thanks to everyone who has made purchases so far. This is what is left remaining. Please take 25% off all remaining books. This is the last price reduction. Remember that all prices include free shipping within North America and I split costs to the ROW. Scans are available in the thread. ----------------------------------------------------------------- Amazing Spider-man #133 CGC 9.8 White - Asking $500 Avengers #57 CGC 9.0 OW - Asking $1100 (This copy looks like it belongs in a 9.6 holder. It's just stunning in hand with some foxing and loss of gloss that is hard to see keeping the grade down) Batman #257 CGC 9.6 White - Asking $300 Fantastic Four Annual #4 CGC 9.6 OWW - Asking $1450 (Origin and 1st Silver Age appearance, of the Golden Age Human Torch, gorgeous copy from 1966) Journey Into Mystery #20 CGC 5.0 OWW - Asking $450 Jungle Action #7 CGC 9.8 OWW - Asking $400 Jungle Action #12 CGC 9.8 White - Asking $400 Superman #207 CGC 9.6 White - Asking $450 Superman #222 CGC 9.8 White - Asking $500 (Highest graded) Wings Comics #89 CGC 8.0 OWW - Asking $1750 (Classic Bondage cover, great PQ and eye appeal) --------------------------------------------------------------------- As a side note, I'm always surprised by which books sell and which books don't sell. Some of the books that I'd expected to sit forever sold first, and the ones I expected to sell (like the Wings #89) are still here. I thought the Avengers #57 would be gone for sure, because it's so nice looking. Anyway, just a random thought. I'm going to close this thread after today.

  11. If you were being intellectually honest, you'd see that that's not what I said. What I said was that if you want to remove confirmation bias and be honest about whether PQ affects price you need to make all other variables equal. And it does most of the time. The entire structure of fair market value in the hobby is based on paying more for better. It's been this way for nearly 80 years. To say otherwise is just disingenuous. It's just common sense.
  12. If you use intellectual honesty, it's easy. If all other things are considered equal, page quality does affect final sales prices and nicer PQ sells for more than lesser PQ. Not EVERY time, but most of the time. Just like if all other things being equal (for example PQ) then the nicer looking book will sell for more. Not EVERY time, but most of the time. But if you're going to cherry pick an exceptional looking 6.5 that sells for a record price (and the book looks like it could just as easily be sitting in a 7.0 holder) then who has the confirmation bias? If this is an actual sale, are all things considered equal? No. This book is exceptional for the grade, and as we've seen exceptional books sell for above average prices. This was a BIN on eBay, it can also just as easily be a mistake or some unscrupulous person trying to manipulate GPA - and I'm not accusing the seller, who is a known boardie, I'm saying someone else looking to sell a 6.5 elsewhere (not this seller) could hit a random BIN just to make their own offering look good on the open market until someone notifies GPA that it was not a real sale. So far, this sale is just an outlier at best, especially since recent 7.0 and 7.5 sales were in a similar range.
  13. How do you tell how 'pressed' a book is from a 2 dimensional scan?
  14. I have these books listed in the thread link below.
  15. You're assuming someone turns in the original certificate. I was talking about recognizing a stolen book from memory. So I agree it is possible if they have a way of tracking something like this internally but not likely.
