  1. It's a tough club. Price is so high, I'm sure I overpaid for even a very low grade restored. Entry level seems as high as Hulk 1 or AF 15. At least census levels show a true scarcity. You can say that again! Just Finding a book that meets my very low standards seems impossible! im really not picky with books like this. Ill buy anything as long as the price is right. If it hasn't passed Hulk 1 and AF15 Im sure its going to soon. I predict #1 silver age book in the next 2 years. Number #1 in what way? Amazing Fantasy #15 is already the most expensive (and so far only) Silver Age book to break $1MIL. It's also the most sought after SA book by far IMO.
  2. Gang, getting some books back from CGC and will be posting a sales thread sometime either today or tomorrow. This is what is coming back. Feel free to PM me with inquiries. ---------------------------------------- Amazing Spider-man #151 CGC 9.8 Avengers Annual #1 CGC 9.4 OWW (OO Copy, killer copy, thought it was a 9.6) Daredevil #158 CGC 9.8 White DC Comics Presents #26 CGC 9.8 White Marvel Feature #1 CGC 9.4 OWW Marvel Feature #1 CGC 9.2 OWW Marvel Graphic Novel #4 CGC 9.8 White (1st New Mutants) Marvel Super-heroes #18 CGC 9.6 Ms. Marvel #18 CGC 9.8 OWW New Gods #1 CGC 9.8 White (OO Copy) Nova #1 CGC 9.8 OWW Superman's Pal Jimmy Olsen #134 CGC 9.0 White Thor Annual #2 CGC 9.6 OWW (OO Copy, killer copy) Werewolf By Night #10 CGC 9.8 OWW X-men #76 CGC 9.4 OWW (Impossible black picture frame book in NM range) #91 CGC 9.8 OWW #93 CGC 9.6 OWW #98 CGC 9.8 OWW #100 CGC 9.8 White #108 CGC 9.6 White
  3. I saw that. Hulk #1 has pulled back a bit but it happens with all titles. AF #15 would move upward, then pull back a bit and plateau and then move forward again. Similar to two years ago when the higher grade copies of Hulk #1 started to blow up, it took a while for the new price point to settle in. I offered a 9.0 to a customer of mine in 2014 just after Metro sold their 9.2 for over $300K and he offered me 60% of my asking price only to regret it hours later after I sold the book. He even tried to buy it back from the next owner but it was no longer available. Now several of my customers wished they picked the book up when it was available at it's old ask. It also takes a little while for the new price points in the higher grade copies to trickle down to the lower grades.
  4. A 1.5 Tec #33 was barely obtainable (if at all) for $10K two years ago. I know because I passed on one for more and regretted it. Damn you, buyer of the Tec #33!
  5. It's been 17 years since the 1st CGC book was graded and it is still by far the toughest SA Marvel key in grade. It's numbers even rival the SA DC keys in the NM range for scarcity.
  6. Just saw this. Incredilbe Hulk #1 CGC 9.2 Northland sells for $375K
  7. I'm fairly certain that 3rd pic is photoshopped. I've messaged the seller asking to see the book in person in a location that is secure for him. We'll see what happens. Well, the seller never got back to me.

  9. There's a Hulk #1 CGC 8.5 coming up in a Comic Connect this fall. It'll be interesting to see what it goes for. http://www.comicconnect.com/bookDetail.php?id=682667 There was a CGC 9.2 with an ask of close to $400K on CC a few weeks ago IIRC. There's a recent CGC 9.0 sale on Clink at $275K (that's $100K more than the last 9.0 sale from 2014). There's an 8.5 that I know of that has turned down a $150K offer. Compared to SC #4 and AF #15 prices, Hulk #1 looks cheap in lower grades and IMO is due for a pop again as the higher grade prices trickle down to the lower grades.
  10. Darn it I should have bought that Tec #33 the second I saw it.
  11. I believe it's Fed Ex policy to drop off a package as delivered under a certain declared value (I believe it's $100). It's a catch 22 because you typically don't want a high value declaration on a package but you also don't want it dropped off without a sig. I understand why Fed Ex does it. It reduces backlog by having to return as many packages undelivered and force them to make a second attempt. I agree that your best option, if nobody is there to recieve the paxkage, is to ask the shipper have it held at your local depot until you pick it up.
  12. That's absolutely a possibility and when I'm buying to keep and want something really bad, I've been known to overpay.
  13. While I wouldn't go so far as to say that the book is not upgradeable as we have no way of knowing without actually seeing the book in hand, my main point is that if a book hits a high, that is by no means 'the' actual value of the book. When you're in a mature market like this one (80 years into the hobby, with large price variations between grades) it takes more than just a single sales data point to value an item. So far, nearly every single record sale I've seen in the mid grades have been on either books that did eventually upgrade or looked like they might upgrade. Using outliers as base values might be profitable in the short term but it is not healthy for any market in the long term.
  14. Nothing quite like changing the rules in the middle of the game While it' snot ideal, the change happened because there was a strong opposition to the unforeseen loophole that the grading rules created and it was in the best interest of protecting books for the long term.
  15. I know how it works. My point is that if the tape serves a purpose and the books are regraded they would be graded as though the tape wasn't there. And my 'how do you know' comment was in relation to the grades not being affected, not what the actual grading rules are. Meaning, you'd have to have seen and inspected these books to know whether or not the grades would be affected by the new rules.
  16. You've said this more than once. Why do you feel that way? Bottom back cover stain Bottom staple rusted Interior cover tanning Spine readers crease breaks color Staple recessed Whole book subscription crease breaks color That being said that 5.0 has an eye appeal of a 7.5+ But those notes don't tell you whether the book is up-gradeable or not. Grading notes are simply a guideline. You can only really tell if you see the book in hand. It's my guess that someone involved in bidding thought it had a shot. That's my and the only way to explain why the book would sell for as much or more than the next grade.

  18. That is true and I've noticed it in more than one price point for certain books but I also believe that as the price rises the less this becomes prevalent. Once you're into 5 figures, that little 0.5 starts to mean more and more.
  19. A CGC 5.5 (with chipping) just went on Clink for $23,500 That 5.0 that went for $29.5 may have either been an upgrade candidate or someone just wanted a strong looking 5.0 copy. I had my eyes on that book but I believe its not upgradeable based on grader notes, really sharp looking book It wouldn't surprise me that a 5.0 with high eye appeal went for more than a 5.5 that wasn't as pretty but "technically" scored better in grading. I would expect a strong 5.0 to potentially reach a 5.5 price but not to exceed it unless someone thought it was going to possibly upgrade.
  20. The funny thing is, that conversation happened 10 years ago. A lot has changed. Now all the auction houses except for Heritage report sales selectively. And except for Comiclink, which doesn't report at all.
