  1. There is so much petty crime that in all seriousness, it's easier and more efficient to let people go and persecute the really 'bad' ones than to consistently persecute everyone.
  2. The only thing you can do is run for congress and change the law. The law says once stolen property is located, it is taken and given back to the owner. Let's create a scenario based on what you think should be the law. Stolen property is sold to a dealer. He doesn't know. Buyer buys it. Dealer dies, has no heirs or estate. Property is found to be stolen. Buyer gets to keep it-onus is on dealer, who is now dead. Actual owner is SOL. Is Shadroch maybe specifically talking about Original Art which may have been stolen from Marvel's offices and is now making it's rounds?
  3. 'only Archie' Archie may just be as recognizable in American pop-culture as any other character. AND it's a tough book to find. I don't want to hijack GAtor's thread but it's a serious contender.
  4. I don't get the joke. From what I heard the guy that stole Pete's books had a warrant in multiple states and was caught and put into jail.
  5. Absolutely. And I still think it's a top book, but that all depends on how we define top 10. If it's just top copy then I'd expect the Church #22 to sell for a record number and beat out many of the top 10 GA books. If we are defining top 10 in terms of sale value then you have to compare apples to apples. So you would have to ask yourself if a 9.6 mile high pep 22 would realize a higher price vs a 9.6 mile high All-Star 8? And so forth Agreed.
  6. Sounds like the guy who stole comics4less books this past summer.
  7. Happened to me. Bought a book on eBay that was stolen from a well known dealer. In the end I returned the book to the dealer and I'm out over $2K. Up to me to recoup it from the seller.
  8. Absolutely. And I still think it's a top book, but that all depends on how we define top 10. If it's just top copy then I'd expect the Church #22 to sell for a record number and beat out many of the top 10 GA books.
  9. Yup. And did he show you ID when writing the check?
  10. I think Pep #22 is arguably a top 10 book. It's on part with Action #7 and Tec #31 but sales happen to rarely it's tough to plot a trajectory, especially in this market where everything seems impossible to predict. But if past sales are any indicator, it's a top 10 book . Archie #1 is a bit more common.
  11. it's actually not that terrible, but water from city to city is different and to someone who's not used to traveling it can be off putting.
  12. I was looking for the "like" button on this. There is no "like" button on the Island of Serendip. Only hugs.
  13. It's nearly impossible for me to comprehend what life would be like if everything changed financially for me overnight. In a life full of insurance for insurance' sake and a safety net for nearly every aspect of life it's completely alien to me. But I'll bet for all the things they don't have they treasure each other.
  14. not as good as round one but overall average They seem to get reasonably good money for their auctions from what I've observed in the way of BA/SA/GA stuff.
  15. It was discussed a few pages ago. Linky.
  16. I was curious as to how this would play out after reading about the government's plans. Will retailers accept any other currencies (for example UK pounds or $US)? I know when the Yugoslav dinar became extremely devalued 20 years ago they were all too happy to accept $US, Euros, German Marks or UK pounds.
  17. Quite difficult to assess but I should have a better idea following my imminent visit. Michael, always appreciate the updates. Those acid attacks are just horrific. This was my biggest fear as I read about the women's progress. Growing up in a very strict, religious environment myself where women were not allowed to do everything that men were allowed, I know personally how dangerous it can be to oppose the status quo. Hopefully the rest of the world comes to understand how much progress needs to be made in parts of the world like India when it comes to women's rights and comes to their aid in some way.
  18. Gang, I wanted to see if there was any interest in any books from my last sales threads but because I have them up online elsewhere (and it would be a pain to take them down) I want to offer them for sale in the eBay / Dealer sales forum so I don't violate the rules. But basically, any book that are you interested in would be available at 15% off the listed sales prices. Drop me a PM with interest. You can see the list here.
  19. Maybe not a steal, but below FMV averages it has been known to happen.
  20. This time of year is hit and miss. Generally speaking, some people get Christmas bonuses and end up splurging on themselves but over all the plethora of end of year auctions (people trying to raise money), lack of time due to Christmas and Thanksgiving and credit card bills getting bloated I've found that this time of year is a buyer's market.
