I think it's worth adding to Cal's post is that this board member Cal is referring to contacted Louise very early on when Louise joined and she did tell Louise that there was a fund raiser on another chat forum for her before she joined here.
Two data points do not a trend make but it certainly got me thinking.
I did mention it to a few people at the time the fund raiser was going on over her but didn't want to get too deeply involved.
Cal might have a point in this whole thing, for which he took a lot of heat.

Every company makes mistakes. We've had threads about CGC dropping the ball here.
If it was a legit complaint the first thing the OP should have provided were before and after pics.
And even then, there are so many grey areas in the OPs story.
For example, you're only hearing their side of the story.

If a perfect book didn't have bindery tears it would be a 9.9 or a 10.0
The size of the tears do affect the grade. For example, you can't have a particularly long tear on a 9.8.
What would you want the ceiling lowered to?

Speculators are a flaky bunch. Many of them jump from one ship to the next as soon as some new piece of information comes out.
Do you think many of them know that IMSM #1 predates both IM #1 and SM #1?
    Either way, no big deal.
People collect what they like and Cal apparently really likes IMSM #1. Go nuts, Cal!

As for what happened to him, someone would just need to bump the Zaid thread or post a link here. There were some updates in that thread.

Constantly opening new 'free' accounts is sort of cheating for using any service.
The point of the free offering is to get to test drive the site in the hope that you purchase it to eventually help pay for the costs.
I use both but I don't find $10 a month to be excessive for GPA. If you spend $100's or even $1000's a month on comics like some do, the small investment is invaluable.
For me convenience is worth the small fee.

VintageComics got a reaction from Knightsofold in eBay's latest stupidity
eBay has always had odd differences like that. What works and what doesn't seems to vary at times for various people. Could be related to certain servers, segments of the market, etc.
I could never figure out rhyme or reason to it.
But yeah, I can definitely see eBay eliminating all sold views and monetizing it somehow. Lots of free information in those sold listings and they've finally put their foot down.

I wonder why Jaydog's post was removed?
Glad you guys quoted it for posterity so that people can continue to see how cancerous he is to this site.
How my business is doing has NOTHING to do with the fact that you make things up about reputable people.
For the record, it wasn't my intention to drag Conan / My Comic Shop through this again but I do consider Conan one of the good guys and can't stand it when people make things up about good people (as he has continued to do) so I felt the need to call Jaydogrules out on it because nobody else did.
I wonder how long the moderators will allow Jaydogrules to post contentiously and also demean good standing boardies.

I'm only just reading this thread for the first time, hence the late reply but it's worth replying to.
Jaydogrules, you can not have a book marked as sold on eBay unless someone actually commits to a purchase. MCS (nor anyone else) has the ability to tell eBay to mark books as sold if there is not a buyer committing to buy the book.
Stating that MCS does it 'notoriously' is not only erroneous, it's libelous.
No that's not what you said.
You stated that a reputable dealer was 'notorious' for falsifying eBay data (see my quote of you above).
I didn't enter this thread looking to troll Jaydogrules (I was reading up on something completely unrelated) but considering the posts are 3 years old and Jaydogrules is still showing a pattern of behavior of moving goal posts while discrediting good standing people in the hobby undeservedly (something that may not have been as apparent 3 years ago) I thought it was worth noting (and quoting) for posterity.
    Carry on.

This is very possibly a hoax.
If he knows so many dealers, you'd think his first call would be to one of the best dealers he's dealt with rather than invite strangers into his home.
And he has to know that a reputable dealer would give him more than half of what his collection is worth.

Any updates on this or did the conversation just die off?
I think the topic is worth revisiting.
I've noticed an definite increase in upticks (upward green arrows) in GPA recorded sales numbers since this topic was started last year.
My worry as both a dealer and a lifetime collector (since 1975) is obvious: an ever escalating price point at this rate creates an unsustainable market and will cause the market to crash back on itself because
    a) incorrectly reported sales prices are not based on actual sales prices created a market without actual fundamental support
    b) uneducated buyers will be left holding the bag when paying inflated prices and when they turn around and try to sell will be disappointed. We've seen this time and time again where people overpay because they are talking to the sale price by salesmanship and then leave the hobby in disappointment, never to return
    c) it ultimately creates a hindrance in future growth if the market corrects greatly in the future (comic's version of Black October) when pricing and actual sales are too far apart to reconcile.

It's true (as noted earlier in the thread) that slow moving or rare books would be difficult to value because a high BIN could throw off a small data set of just a few books for a particular issue and the initial replies felt that just a few sales here and there were not a big deal. I agree.
But I think the more serious problem is that high volume books like keys and hot issues (like copper and modern keys) will climb in price much faster if there is incorrect sales data recorded as for these books it happens on a daily basis, exacerbating the problem and since I see so many uptick / green arrows it worries me whether this is still happening or not.
George (or anyone else), do you have any insight?
