Well, that explains everything to me now.
You treat your women like you do comics - as financial investments.
Mine gives more than she takes. I guess you teach people how to treat you.

    Those are terrific questions.
What is most clear is that logic has left the markets.

Louise saw it twice and also said it was much better upon 2nd viewing. That's a tall testament to the depth of the movie.
I thought this was an excellent article explaining why DC and other companies are destroying their franchises in an effort to try to establish a crossover universe too quickly rather than slowly and steadily building up a universe the way Marvel has done. Marvel has the magic formula.

It is. I've owned it for years.
And I realize the price is aggressive but the only comparables that I could find were pieces that sold on Heritage in the $6000-7000 range years ago.
I figure if Baker comics are fetching 5 figures, owning a one of a kind piece that is irreplaceable is in that ball park as well.

In cane someone is interested, I've put up for sale my Matt Baker original art.
    Link to eBay listing.
This page was presumably drawn in 1946 but went unpublished until it was found in the Iger studios. It was then published in 1984 in Jerry Iger's Famous Features (1984, Pacific Comics).
Matt Baker pages are rare and NICE Matt Baker pages with gorgeous GGA are even more rare. Usually you get a glimpse of GGA art. This piece is stunning in hand (more than half the page is a splash with a gorgeous, full front and detailed Flamingo drawing) and Flamingo is featured in 3 of the 4 panels.
Please message me here with any questions or interest.

There's nothing wrong with talking about money.
There's nothing wrong with making money off comics.
There's nothing wrong with comics getting more expensive.
There;s nothing wrong with comics becoming extremely expensive.
What can be a problem is the way it's done.
If there is organic and general demand causing prices to rise, that is a healthy market dynamic.
If there is market manipulation causing price increase, it's not only unhealthy, it was fall back and crash on itself.
That's why in sales threads people call out sellers who only quote GPA high prices when selling. It's a form of market manipulation.
And while you may not purposefully be trying to manipulate the market, posting only record sales prices does manipulate market perception.
When you post only record sales prices AND also keep talking about how hot and awesome the books are (key books and not run issues or story lines) it gives readers the impression that you are pumping the market.
Pumping the market is not looked at in a positive way by most people.
As a dealer, I don't care whether prices get more expense or not. I'm still making money.
But I've been a reader and a collector for over 40 years. What I do care about is the health of the hobby for the long term, because if the hobby becomes unhealthy that's bad for everyone.
And personally, if you want my opinion anybody who only talks about money is not enjoying the hobby. They're enjoying speculation and the hobby becomes no different than a stock market ticker.

I just keep in mind that everyone is bidding with the same premium so at least it's a level playing field.

I think over a decade ago this was true. This place was new, the internet was new and news traveled slower.
Now I think conversations about chipping, tanning, pressing, movie announcements and anything else you can think of actually do affect the market.
This is probably the most concentrated meeting of collectors and dealers in the hobby.
I think you'd kid yourselves if you believed what was said here didn't have a ripple effect out there.

But Marvel has taken many of their A tier characters and still made terrific movies that hit sweet spots for many demographics even though they had big shoes to fill.
DC has only really been able to do it with Batman thus far.
The problem for DC is that they don't have an vision for their entire franchise. They're trying too hard to play 'catch up' (something I've been saying for years).

What I find most fascinating is how you can take a C team of characters like the current GOTG crew and make a list movies out of them.
Marvel can make a supermodel out of a pig but DC can't seem to make a supermodel out of a supermodel. Real shame.

Agreed. It was absolutely amazing and might be one of the best Marvel movies.
Marvel has the magic formula and they knocked it out of the park with GOTG 2.
And I'm not usually a fan of over the top graphics and too much fantasy as I find it hard to get emotionally invested but I found all the aliens and visuals to be believable and intriguing.
I can't wait for Thor. Looks like it's also going to be awesome but I don't want to jinx myself so I'll keep my expectations low.

I know hobbyists don't like to talk about this but ultimately, everyone is just trying to make a living.  Artists, con promoters, handlers, sig series employees. They're just all trying to make an honest buck.
They can just adjust allowable numbers, charges or logistics to tailor to the market.
Honor can be satisfied (as they say in England) without off a huge portion of the fan base.
