VintageComics got a reaction from 1950's war comics in ASM #252 CGC 9.8 Record Sale - something fishy going on? - Holder Tampering Incident confirmed by CGC
That's not an uncommon win/loss ratio for people who are very experienced with grading, and it's exacerbated when CGC is slightly on the loose side, which we all know happens, so that in and of itself isn't anything that raises eyebrows.
I've regularly posted on here publicly over the years that if I get about 80% of my projected grades, I assume CGC is bang on down the center and if that percentage varies higher or lower, they're loose or tight, so not out of the ordinary to me.

As someone who submits a lot of books, I can testify that CGC has been inconsistent and you can get overgraded and undergraded books back from CGC.
Any high volume submitter can testify to this. In fact, we talk to each other all the time about it and compare notes regularly.
Let's not start yelling fire in a movie theater just yet.

CGC previously released serial numbers of possibly affected books. If they do the same here, why would anyone want to hang onto a tainted serial number?
On a side note, I asked and got word back from Comiclink regarding that ASM #129 CGC 9.0 from the exchange that was discussed earlier, and that specific book has been checked and is not considered to be a part of this problem. Just relaying info.
So, so far this still seems to be an eBay centric problem.

I agree with you that this is a VERY dangerous way to handle things. It reeks of nerd ego.
This guy should have sent the details to CGC but not exposed them publicly.
May as well explain to everyone how to build a bomb and trust the cops to catch the bad guys. Does this person dislike CGC?

I would say that CGC is not consistent to us on the outside on these things, but internally, they may make sense based on the path the book actually goes through.
Any Gen 1 or 2 holder will get an all new holder because they are completely different from the Gen 3 (current) holders.
There are lots of people that spot raw 9.8s and there always has been. Like anything, some people are just better at it than others and high grade collectors tend to be very picky and train their eyes to spot such things.

Actually, my favorite 'Roy' character was Michael Shannon in Midnight Special, a TERRIFIC movie, and I watched this movie a few days after I went on a date with a woman named Shannon, which etched it into my memory. It was a pretty neat co-incidence.
If you like Superhero stories, this movie is a must see.
    EDITED out spoilers.
    It's great. Watch it.

Social media has programmed society to be annoyed at everything. We should start a petition, because the Promise Pedigree needs a social justice thread to fight for it because it's so oppressed.

You sound like all the bitter people in 2006 who made a lot of mistakes about understanding the process, only because they were so emotional and unreasonable about the topic.
    Pressing a book isn't trickery.
It's a benign, almost natural process in much the same way that if you lay on a bed for long enough, you'll actually get taller.
I've told this story many times, but I uncovered an incredible, high grade, original owner collection in a tropical climate and the books were stacked for many years raw. This pressure from stacking along with the natural humidity caused them to naturally press and preserve their condition. Should I disclose that they were stored in a humid environment, stacked for years?
People who talk about "the long term impact of pressing" know nothing of what a book goes through before they're printed. They go through much worse conditions during the printing process BEFORE the books hit the stands, than a properly pressed book. The heat, the pressure, the violent forces - have you EVER looked into the process or seen it on video? Those books aren't treated with care.
At least a presser is treating it like a collectible.
How about when your books are sitting in the delivery truck out in the desert, and it's 120 degrees outside, and nearly 200 degrees in the truck where your plastic starts to melt? Do you think the truck driver cares about your precious collectible?
The fact is that people have been scraping boogers off of books, pressing them and trying to make their nice books look better for as long as there have been comics and some are just better at it than others and it's been an ever evolving process since Pop Hollinger, arguably the 1st vintage comic book dealer was taping books together to preserve them back in the 1940s.
What people take exception about is the money they leave on the table. Well, tough bananas. I've left 6 figure life changing money on the table. We've all done it. As adults, you take your lumps in life, learn your lessons and move on.
Or just stay bitter forever. The choice is yours.

Would you rather trust thousands of random viewers on You Tube who now know how to replace books within slabs?
I agree that this is likely his line of thinking, but to say it is flawed is a bit of an understatement IMO.

He is a smart guy and the best benefit of the doubt I can give him is that he probably believes that taking this course of action will force CGC to change up their holders (rather than believing he is just another You Tubers trying to use this type of video to grow his channel more). I agree with what you are saying 100% and I don't appreciate his recklessness.

If CGC takes ownership and implements the necessary changes, they can come out stronger from this situation, just like I do when my wife tells me to get off my lazy behind and fix stuff around the house!

    People have come forward.
I expect CGC to make a statement once they are done with figuring out what happened and how. There is a continual call for a statement from some people on this board, which is understandable, but a large company like CGC is not going to lead with "I dunno" when they communicate with their customers. A statement will happen at some point, and given it looks as though they are investigating first I expect it to have a bit of detail to it.
I mentioned early on in this thread that it would be nice to have a list of slab numbers that have potentially been compromised. I doubt it will go this far considering the liability $$$ implications but who knows. It will likely depend on how the insurance coverage is set up.

Rick is like the science god of comics. He would figure out a way to do it even if it involved building a time machine or a teleportation device. I am skeptical that our scammer is a criminal mastermind. More likely he just noticed a gap in CGC processes and took advantage of it. I am not ready to let CGC off the hook yet.
